Carnival - are you listening?

Just returned from my 13th Carnival Cruise. It's refreshing that smoking is limited to one side of the ship on one or two outside decks. It's easy to stay away from those areas . . . BUT the casino was so smokey that it was hard to spend much time there. To navigate from one end of the ship to the other skirting around or through the casino was the only way to get through - and the smoke was just awful. Don't they know smoking and second hand smoke is dangerous as well as unpleasant??? Carnival - PLEASE install some exhaust fans to get the smoke out of there. I only went to the casino 4 times in 6 days - won my money and got the heck out because it was just too smokey. Wish they would designate a large area as non-smoking that includes tables in the casino . . . OH well - Carnival's loss - I didn't get a chance to go back and lose all the money I won.

I would agree that Carnival needs to invest, if they have not already, in a system that better cleans the air in the casino area, especially when it is next to or in-between a high traffic area.

However, I highly doubt the casinos will ever go smoke free. If the casinos went smoke free, I believe the revenue the casino would receive from those that previously avoided the casino because of the smoke would not exceed the revenue loss from the smokers.

However many other cruise lines have been smoke free in the casinos for quite a while. It would be interesting to be able to compare the bottom line between smoking and non smoking.

Last year I did trips on both the Breeze and the Dream and did not find the gambling areas to be lot less than smokey compared to earlier cruises.

I did notice that there seemed to be a lot of people using vaps, but more likely the newer ships have better ventilation.

All indoor smoking should be banned. Just like it is in most states.

On the Carnival Pride you have to walk through the casino to get to the theatre and the smell and smoke is awful. It would be nice if they could have just a few hours of no smoking in the casino. Celebrity cruises does not allow smoking in the casino at all.

I now usually only go to the casino in the morning after breakfast, and sometimes for a bit in the afternoon, but later when it gets busier, it also gets smokier, and in the evening I avoid it completely due to the heavy smoke. I am actually ok with this, because it means I hold on to my gambling money longer, if not still take some home with me;), and I have learned to enjoy other things in the evenings, like the shows (even the playlist one), and the comedians, and movies on deck.

Celebrity has had no indoor smoking for several years now and they seem to be doing just fine. So pleasant to be able to go to the casino and not have to deal with the stench and resulting watery eyes.

What does "just fine" mean? People who book them are aware of the smoking guidelines. I've been on 2 Celebrity cruises before the ban, but although they were nice, they were not as much fun.

I meant it in reference to a couple of posts that indicated that eliminating smoking in the casino would hurt Carnival financially. Celebrity does not seem to be having difficulty filling their ships and the casinos when we have been on board were doing a healthy amount of business.

I wish all indoor smoking was banned. It's so unhealthy for innocent people who choose not to impair they're health with smoke. Smokers would still have the option to take their smoke outdoors.

Just a thought. If casinos would do just as well if they didn't allow smoking, then why is there only one major casino in the US that is non-smoking and mega casinos still only wall off a small area as non-smoking? Answer - they know it will hurt revenue.

Not really. Only a small percent of people smoke now, and with all the knowledge we have this statement has been proven inaccurate numerous times. Ban all smoking inside, and people will still gamble.

Just a thought OP....this would probably be a better topic to send directly to CCL via email or phone call, not on a message board. All this thread is going to do is become a smoking v non smoking thread with internet "experts" on both sides. :eek:

You know, I am generally not a complainer when it comes to smoking. I know that if I go into the casino, that a large portion of the room is smoking.

On our 2014 cruise, the smoke was so thick in the casino bar, that we couldn't enjoy the band. On my last cruise, multiple times there were people smoking at slot machines that were marked non-smoking. To the credit of all of the people that I pointed this out to, they apologized sincerely and either put out their cigarettes or moved on. I really shouldn't have had to point it out, though.

I think that Carnival could do a better job with ventilation AND marking the smoking/non-smoking areas within the casino better for the benefit of EVERYONE.

I agree that the ventilation system should be upgraded. I enjoy the casino and just booked a cruise on the Dream with a casino rate, but will not be spending much time in there if it's as smoke filled as our last cruise on the Liberty. Most of the smoke on that cruise was coming from the crowd around the band playing in that area and not from those who were gambling.

I can tolerate cigarette smoke pretty well, however, it was horrible on the Conquest last December. I usually gamble some but I walked in and turned right back around on several occasions. You could even smell it rising up from the casino in the atrium on the lido deck.

I agree...My trips on the Conquest and Glory were pretty bad. If they don't want to get rid of smoking then imo they should move the casino so it's not so mid ship and pretty much a req to pass through. The casino on MSC Divina was all the way at the front of the ship and iirc there is no smoking allowed there. But the placement was better so that you could avoid the smoke if you wanted to.(If they allowed it)

I would avoid the casino on Carnival but they also do trivia there at the casino stage which imo is a terrible place to have it. If they moved the trivia then I wouldn't mind the smoking so much because I could avoid it easier.

The casino and selling alcohol is the two biggest revenue makers for any cruise line. They aren't going to ban smoking from the casino where those two biggies are being offered. Money comes before anything for any business. Carnival does not care if you go in and gamble or not as they know someone will not care if there's smoke inside or not. At least Carnival listened to us when we did not want smoking on balconies--it didn't cost them anything.

Yeah those two don't make much sense. If they only care about money then they should care if you gamble or not. If they took it away then the ppl who care about smoke and the ppl who don't care about smoke are still going to go.

Sounds like a deal. Since I don't frequent smoking areas. Let's just keep it outside.

Not really. Bars thought the ban on smoking indoors would kill their business. When in fact business got better.

What really sucks is you go back to your cabin and your clothes reek of smoke.
