Royal Suite - Star Class Benefits Shrinking??

Recommended Posts

I knew they could reserve specific seats for you at shows but didn't realize they could/would reserve seats at bars or nightclubs. Interesting

Can the Genie hold a sundeck "cabana" (or whatever they're called) for you ?

Yes, it is possible. We asked our Genie to scope out a "cabana" on the sundeck. The first day he was able to get one, the second day they were full by the time he got up there at 7 am! We stayed nearby and waited until the people in it left.

I'm trying to find that review and I must just be missing it. Can either of you provide a link?

Trojan, we too would never ask the Genie to unpack, pack, or shine our shoes. We do all those things at home ourselves and we can sure do the same tasks while on holidays.

I do like your favourite sampler meal served in your cabin. I just told my wife about that and we will be doing that this March. MMM.:)

Andrew -

I think this is the one they are mentioning:

I think that specific reviewer was expecting the moon and the genie that they had was making Center field plays. The nut allergy concerns are very important and concerning. The one plate that they had received, with the cheese and walnuts, didn't come from the Genie. It would have been dropped off one afternoon from a division within the ship, such as food and beverage. We have received this plate numerous times pre-Genie while sailing suite Class. Could the Genie have caught it? Perhaps but the runners are just told to drop them off in each suite cabin and regretfully it was not caught.

I tried to see if they posted anywhere else on CC read about their thoughts or precruise questions etc there was nothing. It might have helped them with their expectations but it looks as though they joined CC just before or after their cruise. From what I see they have done this one review and no posts on the boards. It might have helped with their expectations.

Edit: I must have found the review and was responded while you posted the link. Thanks for posting the link.:)

I just read the review to which you were most likely referring. While it seems that the service they received was not quite up to standards (the nut allergy), I do think maybe they didn't quite understand the offering in general. I've had four different Genies, as I mentioned in another post. Rarely do they show up with something "special." Their job isn't to show up with unexpected treats or invite you to special things out of thin air. It's to help make your every wish come true. They are basically a personal concierge who will do their best to make your cruise what you want it to be.

Also, I think that poster is also using a very out of date description of Genie services. Frankly I'd be humiliated to ask any of my Genies to unpack for me or shine my shoes. It's just not their job. One of those things that, in practice, turned out to be different than maybe it was on paper. They are not butlers, but rather really connected VIP hosts.

Importantly, I've had some Genies who proactively will try to help you with your day, while others require a bit more "management." Either way, you need to be forthcoming with your Genie about your expectations and stay in contact on a regular basis. Don't email them. Call their phone extension. It's the best way.

Here are some of the things where they've been helpful:

- Arranging special/unique room service deliveries from speciality dining venues

- Reserving seats at the shows, bars and nightclubs

- Booking/managing dinner reservations as needed

- On-board activities (Flowrider, etc)

- Last minute requests to ensure your wait time is minimal (i.e. want to eat at Sabor in 20 minutes? Call the Genie, they'll have a table ready)

- Assistance planning unique Shore Excursions (both private and public)

- Guest Services assistance (expediting the queue should you need to visit GS, resolving account inquiries, etc)

- Escorting you off the ship at your designated time

- Party planning

One of my biggest concerns is the perks that were originally listed when we booked, that have disappeared. Some of the big ones for us was access to the Thermal Suite in the spa and Starbucks. Do you think it would put the Genie in an awkward position if I asked to have these perks for our group. I know there is fine print in the program that says the perks are subject to change, but wasn't sure if the Genie could pull some strings.

I was not aware that beverages from the licensed Starbucks venue were included. I thought the suite guests got a free beverage package, which included specialty coffees everywhere on the ship except the licensed Starbucks venue.

At one point I saw that it was included and that they would even deliver it to your room with breakfast. We booked this cruise about a year ago and the list of things on RCCL's website for the program keep changing

Nice perk, I guess I missed it.

We just arrived back on Saturday from Harmony of the Seas, Star Class. All of our Starbucks was free, and we also were told by Spa staff openly that our Star Class included the free Thermal Suite (Equivalant of a $39) for the first time. We utilized Starbucks often!

We just got off the Oasis on Sunday Feb 12th. This is what was our Star Class offerings:

Star Class Amenities0002

Star Class Amenities0001

Star Class Amenities0003

Starbuck beverages were included but not the food. Once they charged my account for the Ice coffee at Starbuck's, but Israel took it off our bill. Laundry you will have a black laundry bag in your closet and you can turn in laundry to be laundered and pressed every day if you choose (we only did it once). The hand crafted cocktail cart came around everyday to our room between 3:15 and 3:30, which was nice but we only did it two or three times. We loved the new perks and had a wonderful time, enjoy!

Thank you Merion_Mom. We were on Oasis last year in a JS. We were invited to have dinner in the Coastal Kitchen for one night. We really enjoyed our meal there. We booked a GS on Oasis just to be able to enjoy the suite lounge and Coastal Kitchen throughout the day. Thought it would be a great way to avoid the crowds. We also like to relax in our cabin a good bit so the in-suite dining seemed to be a great perk. Regular room service doesn't have much variety.

But you can order off the full main dining room menu for breakfast and dinner, as well as lunch when the MDR is open (sea days only). Your stateroom attendant should leave the daily menu in your stateroom; if not, ask for it. But IMO Coastal Kitchen is worth getting dressed and going out for. It was my favorite place to eat on Oasis. :-)

We were on the first week of Oasis star class and while it wasn't advertised, we asked our genie to have breakfast delivered each morning and included our starbucks order. Starbucks was free and waiting for us each morning with breakfast. I'd feel weird about just calling and asking them to deliver starbucks to me, but with breakfast it was nice to not have to get dressed and wait in line :)

I'm so glad I found this thread, and I am so glad it resurfaced, to quote Matt. It answered most of my questions.

The one thing I didn't see addressed was babysitting. Is that something the genie can arrange? (I would expect to pay). On our last cruise, our son did NOT want to go to Adventure Ocean, and we were bone weary at the end of the day. I am hoping that by taking a one year hiatus, he will be more amenable to spending time away from us, but just in case, I want to have a backup.

I have never heard this question asked before but I would think they would reach out to whoever organizes it. If not I don't see why they wouldn't walk you through the process.

Sorry but what is Star Class

O do not see it listed on the RCCL site

Looking at booking a cruise on Explorer of the Seas and thinking of booking a JS is it worth it - are the perks worth it???

Star Class is only available on Quantum and Oasis classes, not on Explorer.

Before we can give an opinion on "worth it", we need to know total cost to upgrade from a balcony, length of cruise, itinerary, time of year.
