Using OBC Questions

I know that there are 2 types of OBC; refundable and non-refundable. I also know that the NCL "promo" (Super Splash Sale etc.) OBC is non-refundable. Is the NCL stockholder OBC also non-refundable?

Refundable OBC Usage:

Anything including casino and DSC

Non-Refundable OBC Usage:

Shore Excursions

Specialty Restaurant Upcharges and a la carte charges

Drink prices in excess of $15.00 including the 18%

On Board Shop Purchases

Non-Refundable OBC can NOT be used for:

Casino charges

DSC

What about using Non-Refundable OBC for:?

Butler/Concierge vouchers that you charge to your account

Added tips at restaurants where you get a slip

Spa Services (massage etc.)

Port taxes for drinks in ports

Bottles of wine/liquor ordered

Is this list close to being correct? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you can use non refundable OBC for all those things.

So I can't buy a $10 glass of wine with our free at sea OBC?(Per "drinks over $15" with non refundable)

You can buy drinks at any price with OBC. The post you quote refers to the excess charge for purchasing drinks over $15 when you have the UBP.

that post does not make any sense

You can always buy a drink with any kind of OBC. Anytime, anywhere.

If you have the free drink promo and buy a drink over $15, then you can pay the difference using OBC. BUT - I have no idea what you mean about a $10 wine. ????

Yes, the post before yours explained what the OP meant to say. The original post, if you read it, makes no reference to UBP overage, just listed " drinks in excess of $15" are covered by unrefundable OBC.

It is real easy. non-refundable OBC can be used for anything on board except DSC and in the casino. Other OBC can be used for anything you might use your ship card to purchase.

I was on the Pearl last week. On two different occasions, I asked Guest Services about being able to use non refundable OBC in either the casino or for concierge/butler gratuities. Both times the answer was no.

I used my non-refundable OBC for both my butler and concierge tips on both the Breakaway and on the Gem this year. I used it on the Dawn and the Gem last year and many other years.

Anyone had any unused non-refundable OBC at the end of a cruise, when there were items that it could have been applied to?

Specifically, I have casino credit that they apply to my account. Any way to have the non-refundable OBC applied before the casino applies its credits?

Thanks!

I can't speak to the casino credits specifically but non-refundable OBC is always used before refundable OBC for anything you can use non-refundable for. In other words, when I have both types of OBC, they use the non-refundable OBC for all onboard charges (including Cruise Next Certificates) except the Daily Service Charges. They only use the refundable OBC for the DSC until there is no non-refundable OBC left. They then would use the refundable for everything.

Edited to correct terminology - had people talking to me while I was trying to answer.

If you wait to the morning the cruise ends it will be TOO LATE to use the remaining NR OBC !

Thus the night before check your account and spend your account down to ZERO either tips

to the crew - buy a trinket in the gift shop - duty free liquor - enjoy a specialty dinner coffee or

drink.

Browse around the photo shop some of the ships have a kiosk to purchase cameras binoculars

and other related gear.

Make sure to do all this early in the evening when these things are open.

If you have bought the VIVA-VINO package make sure you have consumed all the wine -

if there are any uncorked bottles ask for them and take them with you.

Casinos and NR OBC know what the rules are !

Look over your final invoice to make sure that all the OBC both NR & Refundable has been

applied correctly and any refundable portion has been offered to you in cash (Less than $50)

or a check is made available for your pick-up at guest services or will be mailed to you.

Mon Pardon - I think you have that reversed (heavy black print).

Your initial sentence is correct NR OBC is used first until it is exhausted then the refundable OBC is used.

NR OBC can not be used for the DSC - but the refundable stuff can.

Yes it is confusing - leave it to NCL to orchestrate this to the nth degree !

Sorry - yes you are correct and I have now corrected it. I had too many people talking to me while I was trying to type.

Who do you talk to to make sure they apply your NR OBC properly? I hate to spend my last morning at Guest Services queued up with everyone else, but I didn't see the unused NR OBC until that last morning.

Should I buy something, then run to Guest Services to make sure they apply it right away?

You can go to Guest Services any time to get a print out of your account.

Of course waiting till near the end of the cruise may result in lines.

The account should define the OBC - if not have it explained.

With that information you should be able to plan your expenses to

achieve a zero balance on leaving the ship or better yet have something

to take home. While you are at GS have them explain how any cash refund

is paid to you - normally $50 or less in cash - more than that a check is

issued for your pick-up leaving the ship or mailed to your home address on file.

If you have never cruised before the final invoice is either left at a mail box

near your cabin door or slipped under the door in the wee hours of the last

night of the cruise.

RE: Should I buy something, then run to Guest Services to make sure they apply it right away?

With the electronics of accounting on board modern ships the moment your key card is

swiped the purchase should record on your account.

On some of the ships while in your cabin you can use the cabin TV to bring up and

view your account. So there would no need to run back and forth to the GS counter

unless of a questionable transaction entry.

As a note usually the last evening and first thing in the morning extra staff are in place

so the lines are kept reasonable so rapid disembarking of the cruise can take place.

NCL needs everyone off the ship timely to turn the ship for the next cruise.
