Extra Tips Currency

I DO NOT want to start a debate about tipping, I am happy to tip for service so don't want to get into that debate,

My understanding was that on P & O, unless other arrangements have been made, a flat fee of £6 pp pd was deducted for tips -again I have no problem with this.

When would I consider additional tips?

I appreciate that at the end of the cruise some people may leave extra as they feel the service has been exceptional, again I have no problem with this, Would there be times throughout the cruise where tips would be given? I hadn't factored this into my planning and really intended to use very little cash.

Again I really want information as opposed to anyone telling me who I should or shouldn't tip.

I had no intention of having this thread as a "tipping debate"....just plain straightforward information as first answered by insanemagnet.

janny I didn't think you did I just wanted the same factual info to my question. I know tipping seems to become very emotive on any forum and I wanted to make sure I was clear that I wanted info about 'other tipping' as opposed whether too or not.

Not aimed at you at all and I apologise if you thought it was.

Any EXTRA tips can be in any currency you like. Pounds, Dollars, Euros, Alpha Centaurian wotsits etc etc :D

I use ££££'s as that is what I win in the casino.

:). :). :)

I don't like the debate abut tips either and I won't go into the reasons why I tip what I do. However, in answer to the question about what extra tips we give in cash as w go along, we tip room service every time we use them, we often tip our steward for little things they do as we go along and if we eat in a select restaurant such as the beach House or Glass House

Thank you this is the kind of thing I wanted to know.

Only slightly off topic. On xmas cruises I deliver a shopping bag of chocs to the ladies in the casino which are always very welcome. I can't understand why they don't put on weight but apparently all those chocs they get can be swapped for other stuff. Except one young lady who preferred Pringles and later in the year had changed to Nutella :D

If I'd known chocolate was the currency I'd have applied for a job to work onboard!

Regarding your earlier question we also tip room service the only other time we consider tipping extra is the Butler if we have one, but we don't always tip him (never had a woman).

It's really sad when people are frightened to ask a question because of the risk of things turning into a fight - so as others have said this is intended as giving factual info to offer genuine help and not an invitation for one of those awful threads.

I could bring my chocolate samples with me lol.

£Sterling would be prefered as it is the currency on board but crew do get off the ship so i think they would be delighted with euros too.

If you autopay tips there is no reason to tip extra unless you feel someone has gone out of their way to help you.

No auto tips or service charge added to bar bills on P&O.

Correct, the service charge is rolled into the price of the drink and you don't see it on the bill.

I was told it is 12% and funds the bar staffs commission. This is why the waiters prefer a busy bar because they earn more money and why the service in the coffee bar is so awful because they earn little commission.

Yes but it could depend on where you are going. As we went to the Baltic and had 5 different currencies but paid mainly on shore with credit cards , extra tips tended to be in £s

We give pounds always as it is our currency and the ships onboard currency and we keep our Euros for when we get into port.

P&O have increased their seat reservation charge by 25%, increased their gratuities by 10% after I booked the cruise. These stealth charges are unacceptable, the discretionary auto tips is under my control so I am definitely considering cancelling.
