Times to get on & off the boat for smoothest embarkation/disembarkation in Seattle?

Cruising to Alaska 9/3 from Seattle. I'm the kind of girl who's generally the last person on the plane to avoid standing in line. Is there a method to get on and off the ship most easily? I've cruised a few times on Carnival, but it was several years ago and I can't remember how it went, honestly.

Arrive between 1:00pm-1:30pm and you should be able to check in a walk right on

Thanks Laszlo, that's the information I was looking for when I read the thread.

Your going to have a great time! To speed things up make sure you have your doc printed and ready to go, also have a CC ready to give them. If everything is in order it should only take 3-5 minutes total and thats including taking your picture

Cabin's are normally ready to go by 1:00pm, with that said their seems to be a huge crush of people at the elevators at that time also. If you arrive around that time, get something to eat and take your time getting to your cabin. Or just do the stairs, thats what my wife and I do.

Just boarded in Seattle last month for a Pearl cruise. We arrived about 2:00 and there was a line of about 40 or 50 people. They had only a few stations open so it took some time and finally got on the ship about 3:00. Usually it's faster than that--I've never seen them shut down so many check-in stations so early. :(

The all aboard time for the Pearl is 2 pm. Get to the port late, and you'll watch the sail away from the dock.

All ashore time is 10 am on the 10th.At 10 am, you will be over run by people showing up for the next cruise (remember that area right outside the terminal is not designed very well for large crowds).

Ships have more than one set of elevators.

If your cabin is forward locate the elevators that are forward on the ship.

And if Aft locate and use those !

You are most apt to be walking the same lateral distance on either the boarding deck or the one your cabin is on.

Remember that goofy airline emergency exit announcement - the closest exit maybe behind you -

well put that "X" behind you and locate another closest elevator. Playing elevator yo-yo is wasting precious

cruise time if you are not encumbered with baggage use the stairs for going up and down a couple of decks.

After the muster drill don't plan on using the elevators that everyone else will be using.

Think outside of the "elevator" box - make better use of your cruise time !

I am the say way on the airplanes. No need to cram in on the airplane.

In general I like to embark around 1pm but before 4pm. Most people cram onto the ship before 1pm b/c of food. So embarking at 1 pm allows me to eat lunch and miss the lines.

Disembarking - do it as early as you can. The later you do it, the longer the line.

Port days - If you come back 1.5+ hours before the ship sails, then there usually are no lines. With <1.5 hours, it usually gets flooded. You can't really do much with an hour anyways at a port.

On a cruise line, last minute embarking or disembarking is chaotic and there is a higher risk of the ship leaving, which is different from the airlines.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got off the Jewel in Seattle 2 weeks ago. We got to the dock at noon and there was barely any line to check our bags. We had Casinos at Sea Priority check in and were on the ship in 20-25 minutes. Regular check in wasn't terrible at this time and seemed to move pretty quickly.

Disembarkation was very easy. We picked one of the latest times to get off and by the time we were called we walked off and our bags were waiting. Walked to curb and got in our Uber.

Seattle/Alaska NCL. Jewel is Saturdays, more hectic.

Pearl is Sundays, traffic to and from airport much more reasonable, especially early in the morning. I would make sure I have a car arranged before walk off . Trip to airport is not that long.

My return flight was changed from 11:45 to 10:30 am - and it makes the only connection I can do that day. If I do easy walk-off (hoping to be first off, with the concierge's help!), do you think I will make it to SEA by 9 am?

It's taking a chance. Ship according to schedule docks at 8 am and NCL to cover their tush says disembark usually begins 2 hours after docking. If you're lucky they'll dock earlier than that and get cleared quickly, (don't forget you still have to go thru customs but if you're first off it'll be quick) but if not I'd plan on a hotel that night if u can't get a later flight.
