  1. Hot Saturday in Sydney today. Almost 100F until a wild storm came through tonight as we were leaving for the cinema. Will need to clean up the garden tomorrow. Some colour today courtesy of the Fleurs De Ville at the Royal Botanical Gardens and the new wing of the Art Gallery of NSW.
  2. Been a long time since I watched a 3D movie at the theatre. Tonight watched Avatar - the way of the water at the cinema. It just happened that the time slot that suited us was 3D. Anyone else seen this sequel? We enjoyed it. The underwater visuals were stunning and the action was good. If you liked the first movie, you would like this one.
  3. @dani negreanu loved your Carnivale costume photos from Venice. Sorry the trip has been extremely stressful (airline) and disappointing (weather). Hopefully Morocco is better experience for you. @lenquixote66 hope your dear friend pulls through.
  4. I’ve spent the past two months following the daily updates of an 61 yo engineer & kayaker from Sydney who was attempting to sea kayak solo and unassisted from Tasmania to New Zealand. This morning he safely arrived at Riverton at the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand after paddling 1600km. Amazing physical & mental achievement. I am also in awe of him jumping into the deep ocean to clean the bottom of the kayak before entering New Zealand waters (as required by the authorities) as he had seen sharks in the water only a day or two previously. This hull cleaning was also recently required of cruise vessels going to NZ. For the engineers, you might be interested in the design of the sea kayak that he built himself for this endeavour.
  5. @Ocean Boy hope you are feeling better. DS got Covid in Canada recently. Having had it in Australia with barely any symptoms, the Canadian version knocked him for a six. Similar to you with the very painful throat, cough & loss of taste. Took him 2 weeks to recover. Thankfully he didn’t get any of the fatigue. He’s fully recovered now. Hopefully you will be too soon.
  6. @sgmn Happy Birthday Sue. Hope you had lovely birthday celebrations with the family & everyone was well enough to be join in. @ReneeFLL & @Sea Dog Happy Wedding Anniversary Renee & Mike and Happy proposal day anniversary to Greg & Linda @dani negreanu the print/painting in your lovely apartment in Venice is appropriate for Valentines Day. Loving the videos. The pasta looks delish. Must try it one day. Glad you enjoyed the books @sgmn and I recommended.
  7. On the Carnival Luminosa in December just gone, the Captain made an announcement that we would be approaching Willis Island. Then the Reef Pilot who was on board the Luminosa communicated with one of the four staff who live permanently on the remote island. That conversation was broadcast so we could listen in as we very slowly approaching and cruising past the island, As a finale we watched as the daily 9.30am weather balloon was released. For my first time passing Willis Island, it was all very interesting. The reef around the island looked stunning. We didn’t get close but from a distance it looked stunning so can only imagine how wonderful the snorkeling would be for those who live there. Also, there were hundreds of seabirds (mostly Terns I think) flying above the ship as we approached and cruised past the island. Yes, the duty free alcohol was then available for purchase
  8. Per the Carnival Australia official page, you can now prebook shore excursions
  9. In December, we booked via the app as soon as we set foot on the ship. There were no extra tours listed on board from what we had seen advertised online prior to the cruise. We were on board at 12.30ish and secured the tours we wanted. I also booked a short afternoon tour at last minute on the day of the tour. We did FNQ, the day trips to Kuranda booked out quickly. A fishing tour from Cairns was cancelled due to lack of numbers. Had a couple of people tell us how disappointed they were with that cancellation. I am seeing in the online group for Luminosa that some cruisers are now able to prebook tours & organise cruise cash bought prior. However, as I don’t have an upcoming Luminosa booked so I can’t personally confirm.
  10. Just got a congratulations email from cc for reaching 3000. According to cc, taking 3487 days - approx 9 years was worth the wait… Just a little bit to go before I catch up everyone else here 🤣
  11. Beautiful including the cake topper you made. You are very talented. Congratulations on your son & DIL’s civil service.
  12. Nice sunny Sunday in Killcare. After a lovely café breakfast of poached eggs on toast & fruit with yogurt, we are heading home for fur cuddles from Max. Those of you unwell, hope you feel better soon & those of you struggling with sub-zero temps, keep warm & safe in the roads.
  13. You might be interested this bird too - Bush Stone -Curlew (also know as bush thick- knee). It has an eerie cry at night that sounds like a woman screaming. I’ve become fascinated by this bird since they featured in a couple of Australian crime fiction novels, one is called The Curlew’s Eye.
  14. I wish Royal would bring a ship here that has the aqua theater & the capacity for one of the big production shows (not Cats though!).
