  1. This isn't true in the UK, the benefit is there, but it needs to be validated by you having a Defence Discount Card (LINK) it's painless, but not automatic
  2. I had always thought that the extra OBC was for 7 night cruises or longer, and was pleasantly surprised that our upcoming 4 night cruise has $50 shareholder benefit and $50 Military benefit added which should pay for the gratuities and maybe a livener or two
  3. We did the 14 night version of this cruise last year (There's a write up in My Blog Link) We booked our own flights, I don't think Cunard offered an option. My biggest regret was jumping in with Easy Jet too quickly, as the cost of the flights, plus legroom and extra baggage took the cost above those of BA Club. I shall take more care next time!
  4. We're back in with the rowers on our upcoming short cruise to Amsterdam, and I've requested a table for 10 for the second seating in MyCunard. This will be our first time in Britannia since the return of Fixed Dining and was wondering if it was still a thing as we've always enjoyed the ambience of a larger table. The only other time we've done a short cruise, QM2 in 2015, we had a large table but were on it all by ourselves, apart from a couple of strays that had changed dinner times because of excursions. The question is - Are there still large tables available or is my request going to go unheeded?
  5. That's a pain to learn, We're taking the Train from London for our upcoming short (4 night) Amsterdam cruise in September, not much luggage and an excellent 1st class return price. Thank goodness we don't have much luggage to hump over the bridge.
  6. Fixed Dining doesnt restrict you to only eating in the Britannia Restaurant, you can always opt to eat in any of the other restaurants or indulge in room service as you wish. Obviously, if you're sharing a table then it's nice to let your tablemates if you aren't dining with them, if only to prevent them waiting for you before ordering, but it's not compulsory to do so.
  7. We've a short (Amsterdam) cruise booked on QV in September. I've already booked the train journey (£66 1st class return) for the pair of us from Waterloo which will be arriving at Soton at 12:20, so I'm hoping our boarding time isn't too late. If it is we can always grab lunch out somewhere. We need 3 days for diamond and this seemed like a good way of getting it and also we will have the option of booking the October Eastern Med cruise on board as well with the possibility of a deal.
  8. If you're sailing Solo and don't want to dine alone, I suggest fixed dining and a larger table, 8 or 10, that way you will have the same dinner guests every night
  9. We haven't done Open dining in Britannia since taking one of the 2021 cruises to nowhere, and that experience coloured my view of it. The inconsistency of service, caused by having a different set of waiters every night, along with our wine not arriving until well after our starters put me off doing it again.
  10. I print them at 130% then trim off the two sides along the B/D dotted line and the C/A dotted line in HH's screenshot and trim off the grey bits above V225 and below the cabin number - I find when folded longways and then in half they fit the pouches perfectly
  11. Here's my partial blog, unfortunately we contracted Covid on arrival at Tromso so missed out on the last 5 days, Tromso and Bergen https://blog.rakkor.uk/category/daily-reports/q208n/ Narvik - not Tromso
  12. Here's my partial blog, unfortunately we contracted Covid on arrival at Tromso so missed out on the last 5 days, Tromso and Bergen https://blog.rakkor.uk/category/daily-reports/q208n/
  13. We find these to be ideal for holding luggage labels - I print them up at 130% size and the trim off the excess, folded they fit perfectly. Because they can be easily reattached they can be left off for the outbound flight and attached once landed. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074D5BX2B?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder-t1_k0_1_6&amp=&crid=5NR5QFAN0CME&amp=&sprefix=cruise
  14. Commodore _Club.pdf This may help
  15. Porto (with tours from Leixoes) - Don't know, sorry Barcelona - Port not accessible on foot, coach transfers to the centre, but you can get a Cab to meet you by Terminal D if you wan t to arrange your own tour Rome (with tours from Civitavecchia) - You're a long way from Rome, take one of the many tours onboard - Can be done by train if more mobile Alghero - No Idea Granada (tours from Malaga) - Port is accessible by foot, very close to town, but it's quite a walk if I remember correctly Vigo - The most accessible of ports - Dock right in the centre of town My Blog may help for the ports I've been to https://blog.rakkor.uk
  16. Fencing is fantastic fun, but it's a hard workout. Before smashing my pelvis, I'd go for a run before breakfast, have a shower and then head off to the fencing and after that I'd need another shower as I was dripping with sweat.
  17. We had a pre booked Taxi meet us at Terminal D last year to take us into Barcelona post cruise, so yes
  18. We did this last August/September albeit with slightly different ports - Have a look at my blog https://blog.rakkor.uk to see more.
  19. If you're in the Grills I'd be arriving at 12:00.
  20. We always get one of the wine packages - which one, depends on what wines are listed and how flush we are feeling, The Commodore's was always my preference since it offered a bottle of port, which Jane really likes with a cheese course, and could eke that out over a couple of weeks, but that hasn't been there on the last couple of cruises and a dessert wine has taken it's place, Brochure Wine Package Cunard.pdf This is an example from our Mar 22 Fijords Cruise
  21. Yep - Also remind them once you are checked in, that you are Grills so that you are directed to the Grills holding area, last couple of times I was stuck in the Patinum/Diamond area as my boarding pass was marked Priority Boarding - The first time I never noticed until after the Grills passengers had embarked - Last time I realised and raised it, so got shuffled over to the Grills area and embarked with the first tranche
  22. Invariably we never get around to watching any of the films I bring with me, but, they can help pass the time between leaving the Commodore Club at 18:00 and dinner at 20:00 if not on ironing duty, and were invaluable when we were quarantined with Covid in March 22.
  23. There's a USB port on the TVs, stick them on a stick and watch them that way - I don't know how accessible the HDMI ports are.
  24. We did a walking tour in Brooklyn on our turn-round day, and spent a very pleasant day out before returning to the ship - My Blog report from that day
  25. We did it last year as a Barcelona fly cruise - Generally hot, with a couple of days where it bucketed down in parts (Rome & Naples I'm looking at you) (Blog report here} So mainly light Summer stuff as it was never cold but don't forget lightweight waterproofs just in case.
