  1. Just pointing out they are all forms of lodging but are very different in what you do, what there is to do and how you might use that lodging. You will note that the way they are cleaned is all different as a result. Plus at 150sf room, cruise cabins are the hardest to keep tidy, especially with 3 or 4 in a cabin.
  2. This is just a local one. There are tons of ziplines, animal farms etc. that island is driveable as well. We rented a car one time and saw the whole island. Another time we hired a driver.
  3. What is the difference between a hotel room and a cabin in the woods?
  4. To me it depends on the ship. On the old ships not alot of difference. On oasis or quantum class the entertainment in my eyes is so much better.
  5. Just got off her 2/12. A little rusty on outside, i need of fixing that which will take time. Inside is ok, its an old ship. Its such an ornate ship, any type of remodeling would be difficult. My guess is corrosion repair, engineering stuff and some interior refreshes.
  6. On the 3/12 sailing uou can reserve those shows
  7. All mainstream lines are or will be doing it. Its just one more x of one of the things that makes cruising what it is. Hotels mean absolutely nothing in the conversation, nor cabins, campsites, bed and breakfast or any other type of lodging. They are all different animals.....zebra to a horse. Unfortunately, we will just have to grin and bear it. We unfortunately cannot tell a cruise line how to run their business. I guess its a race to the bottom.
  8. Its at jungle top zipline. They have that too. Its a very local place. It was fun, they have a very cute sloth. They have about 6 or 8 cages, and you get to go in and interact with the animals. It relatively inexpensive and easy.
  9. We did this in november. Its not that big of a deal, but worth watching. Yes you can get held up.
  10. I got hosed. They said 30 days prior. I went on and everything sold out 30 days prior. Be there early mar 1 to have a chance. I am sure that cruise is sold out.
  11. There is a monkey/sloth exhibit at the port. Go left out of the gate and the road turns, keep walking straight up the hill and its right there. A nice local restaurant with a great view too.
  12. I cant wait to read these posts after most of you try it. I have and its a major downgrade. I am the guy who often tells the stewart not to bother cleaning alot. It sounds fine until you try it. When you start skipping days because you decided to sleep in and you were assigned morning, or are beat from a long day and need a nap in evening, all of these problems are magnified. Before if you skipped one, no big deal. That and coming back to your room and its being cleaned happens alot.
  13. If you havent done this, you may have a different opinion once you do. What sounds good on paper, may not work in practice. It doesnt work for me. I like to hang in the cabin when i want, which means i will miss todays cleaning. Thats the biggest problem.
  14. A few get through but generally no. I would not buy stock on the chance of a maybe. Although i am up $100 on my $1000 worth!!!
  15. I like to book with an agent. On royal you just call and book with the casino, on carnival, i still call because i often get a better situation. On the last one she said, let me see if i can get you an outside and she did. As far as selection, on royal i get my any cruise 7 fay each year(except if ship is less then 1 year old), my monthly offers and usually a hundred cruises to choose from if i get 800 points or more on a cruise. Plus i can combine offers with wife. 2 insides = 1 balcony or dollars off any cruise which is also combinable. So i feel there is substantially more opportunity.
  16. I suggest you book an affordable cabin with the intention of hitting hard in the casino. The casino year starts april 1 somas soon as you amass 2500 points you will be prime, get free drinks and olenty of offers. You should have no problem getting a free cruise based on the table i posted as well. I would try to do a quantum or oasis class because the entertainment is really good and the casinos are large.
  17. I cant say i ever saw an on duty crew member on a phone…..thats nuts. The entertainment on small ships is usually not that good.
  18. There are two ways to do that. Its not that hard to get a balcony without paying extra. But if you can only get something lower, you can pay the difference upon booking. Or what I recommend is doing the royal up, upgrade bid. I have scored up to an owners suite on oasis. You just place a bid for up to two categories from what you booked. If your bid is accepted, your good. You do not get to pick the actual location though, only the category if you go this route.
  19. Nope tons of web searching, looking at crew sites, cruise line sites, videos, etc.etc. I just wanted to make sure that the cruise line wasn't keeping any of it, and they don't as far as I can see.
  20. I understand where you are coming from and I feel the same. You just have to rationalize it as they could raise your cabin rate and pay him cash. They keep it as tips because that money is given directly to the employee so they do not have to report it as income or pay any kind of fees on that payroll. They should just be more transparent about it, so we could dispense with all this nonsense.
  21. I have decided that in my mind, it is not gratuity, it is a resort fee. Then I can live with it. I still tip everyone a little extra and thats what I now call gratuity.
  22. I have confirmed this through alot of research. The most obvious way to confirm it, is if the steward got all the grats, plus his salary listed on shiplife.org, he would be a rich man. Pretty much every crew member gets tipped. Dont confuse crew, with staff and officer. The guys you see picking up and cleaning the common areas are all crew as well as the laundry, everyone in a dining room or buffett, and their supervisors that are not staff or officer. Anyone who has anything to do with feeding, serving or cleaning up after you, even if that is behind the scenes washing your sheets.
