  1. cagneys, moderno, le bistro, la cucina. you get to choose 2 of the 4 specialty restaurants bpttle of wine with cagneys and le bisrto
  2. the only crab legs ive ever seen on any ncl cruise we've taken (25) is a little old lady complaining her tea is to hot (lol)
  3. sorry, no more illusionarium. hasnt been there for a few years. this is one of (IMHO) ncl's big, big mistakes, it was a great show.
  4. 3tink3, yeah and this has been going on for weeks. i cant even look at chore excursions for a cruise booked in oct 2024
  5. we stayed at the athens marriott last year. very nice hotel, especially if you book the rooms with the concierge. also, if you go in early, the hilton doubletree in trieste is a beautiful hotel, and short ride to the pier
  6. we have four cruises booked on the ncl dawn starting this july and running through oct 2024, for the past few weeks, whenever i try and look at shore excursions, i get a message that i needto log out and ty again later. my wife has a separate account, and so does my friend who travels with us. they all say the samething . anyoe know what gives, its frustrating as hell, as our 1st cruise leaves on july 27th.
  7. the money gets credited back to the original type of payment with a few days at best. if youre really planning to cancel, best do it asap
  8. hey, amygutman and hamrag. check out the dawn b2b from venice to athens, athens to tel aviv. starting oct 17,2024, we're booked on the 2 cruises. been to telaviv and jerualem on a cruise last year on the down side, i slipped on the steps from the wailing wall and broke 3 ribs. put a real damper on the rest of the cruise. i couldnt get to fully enjoy istanbul, we loved venice, and i want to spend a few days in jerusalem. so we're off again. by the way, in answer to the original question, we've sailed the dawn before, and have no qualms about sailing her again. im happy on any ncl ship that we've been on (25 total)
  9. we did this opposite last year. we flew into venice a few days early (marvelous city) booked a shuttle to trieste the day before embarkation. stayed a a lovely hotel, and the next morning there was a shuttle bus to take us directly to the dock. the ship disembarked in rome, so we stayed a few extra days there and flew back to l.a.
  10. they are both open to only passengers sailing in a suite. you cannot get in even if you wish to pay for the meal. usually breakfast in moderno, and lunch in cagneys. by the way, the menus for both have not changed in years. if youre booked into a suite, you'll get priority boarding, and be taken directly to cagneys for lunch. i can just sit down and without even looking at the menu, know what's avaailaable.
  11. my 1st ncl cruise was on he pearl to alaska in 2010. we were in what was then referred to as a mini suite. i think you'll have a great time regardless of the ship. since then we've been most of their line. havent been on the breakaway, joy, escape, encore , or prima -visa- i freely admitted that prima has priced me out of the market. ive posted before, i sail for the itinerary, not the specific ship. i would not hesitate to sail the pearl again if she was going to where i wanted to sail
  12. the $50 only applies to the 1st guest, regardless. the only way the other person gets it, is if they book their own cabin.
  13. if you've been reprimanded as many times as i have for what i thought were honest posts, you wouldnt take the chance. on the chance you are correct, it was the hilton doubletree. if the op has to stay in venice overnight, last year we were inthe a.c. marriott, also very nice accomodations. if i get censored for this post, im holding you personally responsible (LOL)_
  14. yeah, any 2 trees would do, but i have run afoul of cc censors on posts i thought were rather harmless, but you never know what they'll censor. i didnt think cruise ships were allowed to dock in venice (proper) any more. if so, make plans to get off the ship ASAP !, other wise you're cutting it close
  15. i admit to being anal when it comes to booking a vacation, and your question intrigued me. on google, it said the trieste airport is about and hr and 40minutes from the cruise terminal. most airlines require check for international flights, at least 3 hrs prior to departure. if you can make arrangements to get off the ship as early as possible, and immediately grab a cab, or use ncl shuttle, the good lord willin" and the crick doe rise, you just might make it. otherwise, to give you some breathing room, i would contact ncl air, see if you can get a later flight, or in the alternative, see if you can also get a one day extension and a hotel through ncl. trieste is a beautiful little town, and if you stay overnight you wont be disappointed. cruise critic doesnt allow plugging any hotels or travel sights, but if you do get chance to stay overnight, last year we stayed a beautiful hotel, no more than 15 minutes from the port, and although i cant mention the name, if you think of the heiress Paris" last name, and add two maples, you might figure it out
  16. after reading these posts, i decided to google msc cruises. i decided its not for me. they dont offer near the choices (itineraries, amount of sailing days) i noticed the msc "suites" are smaller than ncl. ive mentioned this before (many times as to sound redundant), i believe ncl gives you more bang for your buck, both in prices, and choice of itineraries
  17. what time does the ship dock, and are you flying out of trieste airport? if youre flying out of venice airport, keep your fingers crossed and pray! trieste aint all that big
  18. of course pins are a lighter topic, but dont you think the subject doesnt require this much discussion? to paraphrase "to pin or not to pin, that is the question"! LOL same with "to tip or not to tip" in the end, they are both personal choices, and shouldnt be beaten to death. we're on the dawn this july. if you ask nicely, i'll send your wife a pin !
  19. sorry, overblown discussion regarding pins. you are free to not accept them, accept them and put them into a box or drawer at home, or accept and wear them on board. dont think anyone wearing a pin does it for status. if they do, their status bar must be set extremely low. after this july, we'll be diamond, but as for other things, that and about $5.00 will get me a starbucks. dont you think that in the overall scheme of things, complaining about whether or not to wear one of the nc cruise pins is "much ado about nothing"? as an aside to gordonchick, my thoughts and prayers are with you (even though we may never meet) my wife is a breast cancer survivor (74 years old), so i hope nothing but the best for you and your family, and i hope your recent post shuts up a bunch of naysayers
  20. hey chiefmate>> who is this jose of whom you speak
  21. hey rb9... im glad that you agree, but i'm to lazy to shift from lower case. but on the bright side, you did get my message in its entirety.
  22. well in that case this will definitely be a squeeze. lotza luck with 1 bathroom
  23. club balcony suites are now merely re-designed what was formally called mid-ship mini suites. on some ships, the cabins and their respective bathrooms have been slightly modified, but the square footage has more or less remained the same. specifically, you do not get the perks offered in a "suite" or haven suite. no butler, no specially designated area for breakfast and lunch, no treats or goodies brought every day, no priority boarding either on day of embarkation, or returning from an excursion, no concierge to guide you through. simply, you get a nicer cabin in the club and that my friend is about all!
