  1. Yes, those out of the city (like we did Lamanai) excursions should be safe. But the funny thing is I went to donate blood after that to the Red Cross and was not able to because we took that excursion outside of Belize City. If we had stayed in the port city, I believe I would not have been disqualified for a year.
  2. Only if they enforce it! But, it might also be a revenue loser in the long run as these passengers do not return to cruise again.
  3. And that is exactly the reason why they make the offer.
  4. Once on a roll call, one of the participants mentioned a state discount being added. (IIRC, it was for Massachusetts.) They mentioned it and hoped it was also for NY state for us. It was not, but we discovered they had added a senior discount which we received after calling our TA to add it.
  5. We did an excursion to Lamanai to explore Mayan ruins and felt very safe.
  6. You used to be able to do that. (We once did that on a Carnival Corporation credit used for a Holland America cruise.) But I believe AMEX no longer allows that. It will probably disappear on once card when used on the other.
  7. Yes, one really should expect at least competence. That really is not a lot to expect. One should probably look for experience as a TA (or any other proffessional) should learn from experience.
  8. And you are very possibly giving cruise line websites too much credit when you include bad as well as awful.
  9. One would hope for excellent or at least very good, but competent should be a minimum standard.
  10. His own personal medallion told him it would be a big hit loved by all Princess cruisers past and future.
  11. I would think that needing a passport and/or visa for a cruise with certain ports should be basic knowledge for a competent TA.
  12. First find a TA. I am sure the TA will know the procedure. I do think, however, there is a time limit (though I am not sure how long, but I am sure someone else knows) to get this done.
  13. Ah, a view of the ocean from the dining room. We have to make sure we get that when we celebrate our wedding anniversary next August on the Prima. We try on land on our anniversary (usually successfully) to dine out by water generally sitting on a deck. We have had anniversaries before on cruise ships so that counts as being on water, but a table with a view of the ocean would be special.
  14. I hear what you are saying, but doesn't a TA have some responsibility to provide basic information that if not followed would not let someone board the ship? I would think it would not be common knowledge as to what countries Canada has listed as requiring visas. In the post that I was quoting from the TA was trying to argue that you could get around that. He or she should know better.
  15. Thanks. I just wonder about the passengers who get their TA to argue with you and your fellow agents and/or supervisors. It would seem to me that they have incompetent TAs who did not give them the information that they needed to board the cruise. I wonder if they could have a legitimate case to sue the TA.
  16. Yes, there is a reason that the assistant cruise directors on Carnival are called "the Fund Squad.
  17. Not me! As a previous poster said, the commercials for it were enough to let you know it was not worth watching.
  18. On the one hand, you make the point that there are extra costs to the cruise line for those extra sea days, but isn't there also enhanced revenue? For instance, the casino is open during those sea days. And the shops are also open. And I would imagine that the spa gets more bookings.
  19. @JIMESOPUS, thankyou for all your informative posts.
  20. How do potential passengers react when you inform them that they cannot board because of the visa issue you mentioned. I am sure some of them say, but I (we) just won't get off the ship in Canada. Do they yell and scream at you? Does it ever get to the point where you feel you have to call security?
  21. In other words, a call to muster is not yet a time for passengers to panic; the chance of having to abandon ship is still quite low.
  22. I'm sure that I am not the only one looking forward to that summation. I hope there is more good than bad and not much ugly at all.
  23. I hope you all realize that a call to the muster stations does not mean you will definitely end up in the lifeboats. That is a last resort.
  24. A comment of Halifax. When we were there on a cruise, we took an excursion to Peggy's Cove in the morning. We were not really impressed. In the afternoon, we explored the city. We went first to the Canadian Immigration Museum intending to spend a little time there and then move on. We found it so interesting that we basically spent all our time in the city there.
