  1. Once upon a time, it was a great investment. The stock price kept going up. At one point, the dividend per share doubled. And of course there was the OBC.
  2. Before your cruise, did you buy travel insurance? If so, you should be reimbursed less any deductible.
  3. The cruise has an overnight in Reykjavik before disembarkation. (Also for us we have previously done a land trip to Reykjavik.)
  4. Not totally positive, but I do not think NY state allows CFAR insurance as they do not really consider it as insurance. The thinking is that insurance is something you take out against risk, which CFAR is not. It goes along with the same line of reasoning that allows your insurance premium to be refunded if you cancel as there was no longer a risk that is being covered. Again, I could be wrong, but I believe this is the reasoning of the NY State Insurance Commission.
  5. Isn't it nice when people learn something practical on these boards and are able to use that information.
  6. We are on the cruise that ends in Reykjavik that starts 8/6 next summer. If you are on the same one, join our roll call. Norwegian Prima 11-Day Northern Europe from London to Reykjavik August 6, 2023 - August 17, 2023 - Norwegian Prima Roll Calls - Cruise Critic Community
  7. Correct. I was just trying to give some information to any NY residents that they could get their insurance premiums back. I apologize that I muddied the waters (pun intended) about CFAR insurance.
  8. Yes, read about it on some of the individual cruise line boards.
  9. First cruise was for our 25th anniversary. I was in the 50-59 category; DW (not voting) was in the 40-49. And it was 7 days, Barcelona round trip Western Mediterranean. I had initially proposed Bermuda while she countered with Alaska. (We have since done both, and did another Barcelona to Barcelona for our 35th anniversary.)
  10. Yes, we have done the Western Mediterranean (twice) and the Eastern Mediterranean (once), and you cannot go wrong. One advantage to starting in Barcelona over Rome is that the ship actually sails from Barcelona. Rome is not really a port; the ship sails from Civitavecchia.
  11. What it really is is that you can cancel for any reason and get your insurance premium back. No cost for this. Sorry if what I wrote earlier was misleading.
  12. Yes, they were! Too bad no one is going to St. Petersburg on a cruise ship anytime soon or maybe forever. In Scotland we were able to see the Scottish Military Tattoo, and not have to worry about getting back to the ship on time. For Athens, we were there on a Monday which meant the New Acropolis Museum was closed. Another day there would have been great.
  13. We have had 2 overnights. The first was in St. Petersburg, Russia. The second (I forget the specific port name) was for Edinburgh, Scotland. I really wish we had had one in Piraeus, the port for Athens.
  14. You can also get to Nice from that port stop. It was our very first ever port, and still one of the best DIY days we ever had on a cruise. We went to Nice and to both the Matisse and Chagall Museums. Later DW swam in the Mediterranean while I watched our stuff. She sat us by some topless (I assume) French women so I would not be bored. 😊 The second time we were there, we explored Cannes. I agree it is an interesting port.
  15. On our very first cruise, my DW swam at that beach. She loved it, but she said the place she changed into her swimsuit (a bathroom I think) was the most disgusting place she had ever been. 😢
  16. I asked my TA after the InsureMyTrip guy could not answer if any other state had this protection, and he said only NY State. The InsureMyTrip guy actually did not realize NY state did this as when I posted that in addition to my refundable deposit, I received my insurance premium back. He said he had never heard of Travel Guard doing this.
  17. Actually, sometimes the "hotel" stays in the same port, and you have an overnight. And that is also good.
  18. So, if you do not want to call it Norwegian Cruise Line, what would you rename it? 🤣
  19. We really enjoyed Halifax the times we were there, so I hope you are right that the Prima will get you there. 👌 for you.
  20. I realize that there is no proof beyond a reasonable doubt that a cigarette carelessly discarded started the fire on the Star Princess, but has there been any other credible theory as to how it started?
  21. Do you think it is ok for people to smoke (legal or not federally legal substances) on their balcony?
  22. We did the excursion with the Giant Fiddle on a Boston to Montreal cruise on HAL in 2018. It was a wonderful, very enjoyable show. I would recommend it.
