  1. We are comparing Princess transportation rates to Galveston Express. With the 8 of us, there will be 5 of us that have the senior rate. If you have used or know of someone that has used Galveston Express, would you give me the pros/cons on this transportation.
  2. Dreamscaper, yes I had thought once we know (I guess???) what dining room we will be assigned to, we could try to find the Manager of the dining room and see if we could have our big table booked ahead of time.
  3. Thank you for your input on my question. Yes that was one of my concerns of feeling a little rocky, since we are up so high. I have no clue what the weather will be in February, other than it should be much warmer than here in Missouri.
  4. Jimmywine, thank you for your input on this. I do agree that makes sense, depending upon what we like or what we want to do. At 80 years old (most people think I look/act younger), I am still doing steps pretty good, and hopefully I will still be able to do it on this ship too. I may have mentioned before, but I think the highest room I have been on was deck 8 or 9 which was fine with me. My PVP was the one that chose this, and I know my son and d-i-l were on deck 17 I believe, on another ship and they said it was good, so time will tell. 🙂
  5. Since there will be 8 of us, that is good to read that it probably will be possible for us to get a later seating. I know there are pros/cons on the times for eating, but for us, we like to get back from port, shower, rest, etc. and then go to eat. Yes we might miss a show or two, but I think there is PLENTY things going on (as was mentioned, I will be marking everything I would like to see or attend, and I may not be able to, but I'll see what I can do. 🙂 ) to keep us busy. Actually there were 5 of us discussing where we were going to stay, as well as booking our flights. We know for the most part, the longer we wait, more than likely the flight rates will go up.
  6. Even though February seems a long ways off, the 8 of us are getting more excited of doing our trip. Five of us were together tonight and we started discussing WHERE we were going to stay in Galveston, the day before the cruise. It looks like it might be Holiday Inn. If you have ever stayed at the Holiday Inn in Galveston, TX , would you mind giving your pros/cons of this hotel. Also, does it serve breakfast too?
  7. If you have been on the Regal Princess within the past couple of years, and had a balcony on deck 14, can you give me your pros/cons of where the room is, and if you felt like you were better up high, or should have been on a lower deck? We did not pick this deck, but our PVP is the one that booked it for 4 rooms.
  8. My son and I were just talking about this same issue (getting airline tickets too) for the 8 of us for our February trip. We are thinking at this time to book the Princess transfer to get us from the ship, back to the airport ON TIME!!! I just emailed my PVP, and ASK her if Princess GUARANTEES that we will arrive at the airport in plenty of time to get our flight.
  9. Looking forward to reading/seeing your review on the Regal Princess. The reason I say this, there are 8 of us that HOPE to be leaving on this ship the 25th of February, and although I have done over 15 cruises, I have never done the Regal. Getting AWAY from MISSOURI weather is a must!! 🙂
  10. I have done over 15 cruises, and have never done solo until I "thought" it was going to happen with me this time. Fortunately I have someone that is going after all which makes me happy, but I appreciated the information that was posted for someone who may go solo, even though they did not plan it that way.
  11. I appreciate those that showed pictures. After seeing these pictures, I would be doing well if I ate one or two bites. There is just too much DARK chocolate for me.
  12. Yes, it may have been Glen Campbell or one of the others that sang Galveston. Radio, once again for filling me in on my question of miniature golf, or put put. It sounds like I will be a little disappointed, as I have always enjoyed doing miniature golf on the cruise ships.
  13. Radio, once again as several have said, thank you for taking us along on your trip. I have a question about the golf range, or whatever you want to call it. You may have checked it out or you may have not. My son said it was a put, put range, and I said it was miniature golf. If you checked it out, was it like a "normal" miniature golf range, or just the put put?
  14. I am so enjoying all of your review, and especially ALL the pictures and videos. I know you are on your last day, returning to Galveston. I never thought much about Galveston before, until the 8 of us decided to take the Regal the 25th of February, and it was leaving Galveston, TX. It then dawned on me John Denver's song, Galveston, oh Galveston....., and I guess that was the area he was singing about. 🙂
  15. The Cat Bus was so cute. 🙂 So many of buildings in these ports are in pastel colors, which I love, compared to the drab (ME talking) browns, blues, blacks a lot of our buildings in the USA are.
  16. I like some others have said, are looking forward to reading/seeing your review on the Princess Regal, as this will be the first time for 7 or 8 (still debating if one other person will be going with us) of us doing the Regal in February. Getting AWAY from MISSOURI weather is what we HAVE to do at that time. You re doing a different itinerary than what we will be doing, but at least we will get an IDEA of what the Regal is all about.
  17. Matt266507, my thoughts as well when possibly doing the Uber (going in the day before) from the airport to the hotel (we don't know this as yet either). Also, once we know our flight schedule, we might do Princess, that is if we need to be at the airport in a short period of time. Other than that, we probably could do the Uber too. I'm curious also of the cost and how long it took?
  18. CruiseQueenKC, well then we are almost neighbors. Our 2nd born son lived in Shawnee for quite some time, but now our twin sons live on each side of us, as we live in a village where every one has one acre or more. I will say it is pretty convenient for us when going to the airport, as it is close. Also for when our family/friends fly in for us to pick up. 🙂
  19. P-Pete, that sounds good as I have never eaten it, but have heard of it, and hopefully I can get some on our February 25th cruise. 🙂
  20. Yes I do know that there is no hotel that is obligated to be a shuttle for us. We are just waiting until it gets closer to the time, and then we will be calling/checking into the hotels and see what they offer.
  21. Good question, as we will be needing/looking for one in February.
  22. OK, I may be completely wrong, but if we get a hotel that is within a few blocks of the cruise pier, (maybe I am wrong, but I thought I read that there were hotels close to the cruise pier) are you saying the hotel still might not have a shuttle to take us to the cruise pier? I know we will have to get transportation to the hotel if it is in Galveston from the airport, and also transportation from the cruise ship back to the airport.
  23. c-Leg5, yes it may look like I am "over thinking" everything, but I feel with ALL these suggestions, everything will fall into place. When we fly into Hobby, we just want to go to the hotel and not check anything out in Galveston, stay over night, and then "make sure" the hotel has a shuttle to take us to the cruise ship. As for getting to the hotel from the airport, and returning back to the airport from the ship, when it gets closer for our cruise time, it will be taken care of too.
  24. Paula MacFan, where do you live in Kansas? My son had suggested of driving there as well which may be possible in "Missouri" weather, and it is a chance a person would have to take. The other two sons/wives work, so they would not be able to do the driving ahead of time, and would have to fly in the day before as planned.
  25. Rocketman275, I have a feeling you are right. The reason I say this, we were out eating tonight and my grandson was with us, and we were talking about hotels and transportation. He then spoke up and said that the company he works for gives a discount at a hotel or two in Galveston, and showed me the price, which didn't sound too bad. So I'm thinking my/our problem is someone taking us to the hotel in Galveston from the airport, (I/we will check first at the hotel and make sure they do not pick up their guest at the airport first, before booking someone that would do that for us)and someone picking us up from the pier and taking us back to the airport.
