Credit Cards for Best Travel Insurance
iamtrustworthy replied to Unclefester6132's topic in Cruise/Travel Insurance
Hi Unclefester6132, None of the credit card plans cover anything related to pre-existing medical conditions of you, traveling companions or non-traveling family members that could worsen and, in turn, cause you to cancel or interrupt your trip or for medical treatment while you are on your trip. And, their Covid coverage may not be adequate. If you don't need the pre-existing medical conditions coverage, then having a credit card plan's trip cancellation coverage is a good way to save money. I hope this helps you. Steve Dasseos -
Hi SoloFullTime, Chase, nor any of the other credit card plans cover anything related to pre-existing medical conditions of you, traveling companions or non-traveling family members that could worsen and, in turn, cause you to cancel or interrupt your trip. If you don't need the pre-existing medical conditions coverage, then using the GeoBlue Trekker plan is a good choice. We've sold a lot of GeoBlue Trekker plans in combination with credit card plans for this same situation. I hope this helps you. Steve Dasseos

New Chase Sapphire card need supplement too?
iamtrustworthy replied to let's go cruising's topic in Cruise/Travel Insurance
Hi let's go cruising, Yes, it's possible to buy supplemental coverage for the things our Chase Sapphire doesn't cover. I don't know if you need pre-existing medical conditions coverage for yourselves or non-traveling family members, but Chase nor any other credit card plan doesn't cover pre-existing medical conditions. Steve Dasseos -
Hi Globaler, Your trip is easily insurable with a Trip Cancellation plan. However, your Chase Card may not be of much help because of these two situations: A pre-existing medical condition and Trips that exceed 60 days in duration are not covered. First, your Chase Card excludes pre-existing medical conditions of you, or a traveling companion or a non-traveling family member that could worsen and, in turn, cause you to cancel or interrupt your trip. Or that could cause you to seek treatment on your trip. Second, your trip is over 60 days in duration. Chase defines a trip as a period of round trip travel from and to back home. If Chase tells you that you have two different trips, you need to get this in writing from them before you should trust their answer. Will all the plans I know, you will have to insure the entire length of the trip because of how a Trip Cancellation plan works, though you might not insure the full prepaid trip costs since that is up to you. I hope this helps you. Steve Dasseos

Advance Payment to Medical Facility
iamtrustworthy replied to runner2013's topic in Cruise/Travel Insurance
Hi klfrodo, It's done on a case-by-case basis. Coincidently, about 5 hours ago today, a customer called me from a hospital called "Maria Dal Foundation" in Bonaire. She was having trouble reaching her plan's 24 hour assistance line due to a bad phone connection. I myself called her plan's 24 hour assistance line and gave them everything they need to reach her and to contact the hospital. They called her and are taking care of her husband and will be arranging a medical transport when he's stabilized to travel. Steve Dasseos -
Hi Jane, Thanks for tagging me on this thread. The link to the page you referenced is: https://tripinsurancestore.com/initial-trip-deposit-date/ What caused the cruise or travel credits to be issued is important. If someone received cruise or travel credits instead of a cash refund, my plans will insure their value. If they are bonus or courtesy credits, they aren't insurable. Steve Dasseos

Advance Payment to Medical Facility
iamtrustworthy replied to runner2013's topic in Cruise/Travel Insurance
Hi runner2013, All our plans can advance payment to a medical facility to secure a person's admission if needed. I've only seen this happen a handful of times. Steve Dasseos -
Hi JoAnneNYI, You may insure a refundable deposit. Your goal is to buy the plan within the "Time Sensitive" deadline in order to get the Waiver of the Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion. Steve Dasseos

Hi Deliver42, I don't know the details of every plan out there, but the ones I know all include Trip Interruption coverage. You might find this helpful. I didn't plagiarize it - I'm the author: Q. How does Trip Interruption work? A. Trip Interruption is similar to Trip Cancellation, but it happens on your trip. Technically, Trip Cancellation refers to a pre-departure cancellation of your trip while Trip Interruption happens after you leave home on your trip. Trip Interruption coverage reimburses you the unused prepaid non-refundable value of your trip if you are forced to catchup because you missed a portion of your trip for a covered reason. Or it could reimburse you the unused prepaid non-refundable value of your trip plus pay the cost of one-way airfare home if you are forced to return home for a covered reason. For example, you get hit by a cement truck while you’re walking across the street in London – did you remember that they said “Look to the right first”? If not, it’s likely you will be interrupting your trip and returning home earlier than planned. There’s another scenario that could cause a trip interruption where you don’t return home: You’re on a trip and something happens to you medically. You end up being hospitalized or restricted from traveling by physician you are seeing at the time. Two days later you recover. The cost of re-joining your cruise or tour is a trip interruption. Important: In the case of Bad Weather & other Natural Disasters, there usually has to be a 12 – 24 hour shutdown (depending on the plan) of Common Carrier services (ie – the airport has to be shut down for 12 – 24 consecutive hours) to have a covered Trip Interruption. WTH? Question about Insurance
iamtrustworthy replied to dinkydee718's topic in Cruise/Travel Insurance
Hi jbrinkm, Travel insurance is priced by your age on the day you buy the policy and not your future age. I ask everyone that calls or emails us "How old are you today?" and they usually reply with "I'll be ____ when we take the trip." Steve Dasseos -
Credit Card Luggage coverage
iamtrustworthy replied to rcrabb1513's topic in Cruise/Travel Insurance
Hi klfrodo, Thanks CDN Polar for your explanation. Baggage Delay coverage is to give you money to buy things you need while waiting for the baggage to be delivered. > What about any souvenirs I may have brought back with me that can't be replaced? Some of these items may even be high end. It's best to put these in your carry-on. Steve Dasseos -
Credit Card Luggage coverage
iamtrustworthy replied to rcrabb1513's topic in Cruise/Travel Insurance
Hi jclinard, The reason Baggage Delay doesn't cover the return flight home is because the traveler's other possessions, including clothes, are at home and there's no need to buy these items while waiting for the baggage to be delivered. Steve Dasseos -
Hi crystalspin, One drawback to relying on the credit card's trip insurance is they don't cover pre-existing medical conditions of your self, traveling companions or a non-traveling family members. As for insuring the trip cost, with some trip cancellation plans, you are not penalized for pre-existing medical conditions if you don't insure the full trip cost. This means you can insure the 10% or 20% the HAL plans doesn't refund you if you cancel your trip for a covered reason. I hope this makes sense. Steve Dasseos

Hi hrslvr142, Are you covered by Medicare with a supplement you bought on your own, have Tricare or are on a former employers' retiree health plan? Or do you have Advantage plans? Steve Dasseos
