  1. Any suggestions/opinions for accommodations for two nights in Homer?
  2. This really leaves me shaking my head. Please enlighten me as to why you might even consider room service for 12?? Or are you just hungry? Or joking? Are you all in quarantine?! Avoiding COVID? What stateroom will seat 12 for a meal?! Not want to get out of you bathing suits or PJs for the hike to the WJ where all can pick and choose and seating is available. Waitstaff in the WJ is very obliging to help you.
  3. Hope!! 🤣. Went there on previous trip for just a few minutes … a step back in time! Be aware of time needed to travel thru the tunnel to/from Whittier…scheduled passage I believe. You can drive right up to EXIT GLACIER and walk beside it… a nice preview of much more to come on the cruise! MILEPOST is a good publication to get. An accompanying CD can narrate/guide your trip.
  4. For a September cruise….Our plan is to fly to Anchorage, rent a car and take a road trip to Seward … first going to Homer then backtracking a bit to go to Seward. Previously did the drive straight to Seward….a nice, easy route. Not sure yet how many days/overnights to do this time. FYI: I did book a room right away in Seward for the night before the cruise. Seward is a small town and I just don’t know how quickly accommodations might fill up with cruise passengers.
  5. Normally, but not so on my previous cruise. Did not present a problem.
  6. Is there a partition of any sort between the 2 balconies of a connecting room?
  7. For any stateroom, ask your cabin attendant to leave you room service menus. Fill it out and hang outside your door before going to bed. Fill in all info. Be sure to ✔️ the box for preferred delivery time. Continental is NO CHARGE, tho a tip is appreciated. You will generally get a phone call when it’s on the way…or a gentle knock on the door. It is never left in the hallway. You can indicate where you want the tray placed….desk, bed, balcony….. A great, relaxing way to start your day(s) !

    Alaska Heresy

PS. Just keep an open mind as you just might find an excursion that strikes you. If so, go for it as this’ll be a special anniversary celebration.

    Alaska Heresy

Yes, do your own thing! As said, ports are easy to meander around if you just want a little walk, shop, eat, drink, feel the local vibe. Passing scenery from the ship will be great! Don’t be discouraged when you hear shore excursion stories at dinner time. There are always experiences to hear about, but the reason for different excursions is for different expectations. One size doesn’t fit all ! Expect a relaxing, well deserved cruise doing as YOU please! Happy Anniversary!
  10. Just booked southbound Alaska cruise from Seward to Vancouver. Now I’m looking for flights….Boston to Anchorage, Vancouver to Boston. $$$$ !! Any thoughts on booking thru Royal Caribbean or on my own.

    Drive to Homer

Cruise departs from Seward, so No return drive to anchorage. Our drive would end in Seward providing car drop is available. If not, then that drive plan would have to be scrapped. Will determine number of days to allow once route is set. No time frame yet. Previously we drove round trip Anchorage/Seward in 3-4 days. Did a nice/scenic boat tour at Resurrection Bay.

    Drive to Homer

Planning a cruise out of Seward after visiting Homer. Looking to rent a car for a few days ahead of the cruise. (Did so a few years back…Anchorage to Seward to Anchorage before a cruise/tour …Denali then departed from Whittier for cruise). Anybody done the drive from Anchorage to Homer to Seward? Looks like a nice trip to interesting Homer.
  15. 1. Just print anything out in case phone reception dies, gets lost, inconvenient. 2. Check that it’s your name on the card when you get to your stateroom. If not, you might be at the wrong stateroom…..happened to a friend on a recent cruise. She had started to unpack when the “real” occupants showed up 🤣🤣
  16. once on board GO DIRECTLY to the main dining room and try to get desired time and table. We couldn’t get anything official other than 7:00. However, we showed up earlier each night, got in the line for “with reservations “ and got seated pretty quickly…in same area each night….often same table. There is always the Windjammer! 👍
  17. Dress code discussions have run the gamut, so here’s my input: On Enchantment now. If anyone is worried about a dress code… it seems there is nothing to stress over! We dress “smart casual “ for the MDR each night… as we would for any restaurant at home. Never go the formal route. Our choice. The food has been surprisingly good and doesn’t change for me regardless of what others are wearing. And I don’t judge what others are wearing. Friendly smiles, good manners, and respect to staff is what counts! But for those of you worried about the dress code….don’t stress! Obviously the days of strict codes are gone. This week we have seen dinner guests in shorts and Ts, jeans and plaids, sparkle and suits, khakis and polos, shoes, sanders, flip flops… Just be courteous and crew will respond accordingly!
  18. Definitely the”promenade “ deck!! Outside in sun or shade…peaceful even if a few walkers stroll by. Just sit away from a smoking area…generally port side. Viking crown lounge is so nice…inside with a nice view and possibly totally alone.
  19. Never added a photo. Done at checkin at the terminal… no problem! The personnel can solve checkin difficulties faster then I can on my damn phone! Relax and enjoy!
  20. The APP ! Always ON THE APP! Grrr!! I I don’t carry my phone 24/7. I want to disconnect on vaca! Hate to worry about leaving it behind somewhere, getting it wet or stolen, low battery, low signal…. Please let me have the “dailies “ !
  21. Get your Skip-the-line tickets for everywhere you want to tour! You won’t be sorry.
  22. There is a stark difference between the two sides of Aruba. The cruiseport, resort areas and beaches are gorgeous with gentle breezes. While the “other side” of Aruba is very beautiful in a rugged sort of way, it is NOT a place to swim ! The ocean is extremely rough and dangerous….. powerful waves and undercurrents !! Take in the beauty from the coves, just not in the water! Save your swims for BabyBeach, Eagle Beach, or the likes, to enjoy swimming. Always pack a full water bottle, a hat and sunblock!
  23. The seaweed/sargassum issue is real. Hopefully not to the point of affecting cruise destinations, but if it does, prepare for a dry, scratchy throat and cough. And you won’t want to walk thru it !! Experienced it a few years back when FtMyers Beach was covered with the stuff(red tide but like sargassum). Dead fish everywhere, and yucky smell. No coughing as close as a few hundred yards from the beach. Environmental “issues” prevented removal until it piled up disgustingly. Some resorts tried to bury it but to no avail as “ Mother Nature “ uncovered it! Good luck cruisers… and to me who will be cruising in April!
  24. Might not be self conscious wearing shorts to the main dining room, but rather unusual. I strongly doubt one would be turned away unless in a bathing suit. But to better answer the question: “formal “ nights are now quite relaxed with “smart casual “ more the norm. I liken it to appropriate office wear.
  25. Not getting any feedback. Hmmmm
