  1. They don't have to, but they usually do. There are various reasons, so if a ship was late due to engine problems, passengers would be suitably compensated. I can't recall the last time a ship was a day late due to weather though.
  2. I suspect our friends aboard will enjoy an extra free day of cruising, unfortunately at the expense of those meant to embark.
  3. Was supposed to be disembark after midday, and boarding from 6pm. That was the plan until the past hour, when Coral turned out to sea.
  4. The numbers on Coral and Explorer lately have required at least some of the passengers to quarantine in their own cabins, but not a given that would happen. Seeing they are crediting you for the days in isolation, I guess they can put you wherever they, even if it is a lower grade than the one you were sailing in.
  5. I have just looked at these policies again for the ships currently operating, and they last extended this by another month on 1st July. If the current status continues, they are likely to extend an extra month on 1st August. - So yes, to get a refund, the usual cutoff dates apply. - To get an unconditional credit or change to another cruise, you must act more than 30 days before sailing (Princess) 15 days (P&O), and you need to apply them to a sailing departing before 30th September 2023 (Princess). - Covid covers you up to the gangway, but you must confirm this with them prior to the departure. P&O has now spelled this out in the same way Princess has. Book with Confidence — Cancellation Policy & Final Payment - Princess Cruises P&O Assurance | P&O Cruises Australia (pocruises.com.au)
  6. There are different dates for both. For covid, that applies right up to the gangway. Last I checked for unconditional, it was around a month out for those lines. There is a moving target with them, as that policy only applies up till a certain date - but they keep moving the date because of covid.
  7. I do believe the pilot is now aboard, and they are heading for Moreton Bay. I dis hear last night that boarding was put back much later than their delayed arrival would suggest.
  8. Currently you can cancel, at least for Princess and P&O, much closer to departure date than before. Alas, this only allows you to get credits or to move to a later cruise. Refunds are still governed by the usual terms and dates we are used to.
  9. In short, the antigen test doesn't need to be certified. They have applied the same reasoning as our other areas of life, where we self-test and report our RAT'S. Not sure what Royal will do as far as attesting goes, as they are likely to just adapt whatever system they are using in the US. The memtioned photo of the test is only to satisfy the Princess app so that you can move on to the health survey. Princess rules don't require you to take a photo, which provides no proof anyway.
  10. I haven't seen an official announcement about a closure, but there are certainly no ship movements. At present, the next scheduled ship movement for Port of Brisbane is Coral Princess, now expecting to board a pilot at 7am. With her current location and speed, she is 10 to 11 hours away from the pilot station, so will continue to cruise through the night and hopefully the conditions are considered safe when she arrives there in the morning.
  11. It was showing as available on Princess for a bit earlier today. Yes, it would be too late now anyway.
  12. I have seen one of the obligatory rough weather main pool videos from a friend today. It does look a tad bumpy. Cruising into the wind is bad enough, but also fighting into the southerly swell makes it more wobbly.
  13. That makes the most sense, considering that is what has been offered to the passengers for the previous two cruises to take pressure off the available crew. It does get a bit weird though when the existing passengers are being offered a carrot to cancel, while at the same time, Princess is also selling available cabins. It makes me think that the government protocols obligate them to offer a cancellation option whenever there are elevated infections aboard, but at the same time Princess would still like to fill as many cabins as possible.
  14. Winter cruising at its finest. There wont be many chogs on the pool deck today.
  15. She is still tied-up at Sembawang shipyard in Singapore. Who knows, maybe still will depart today.
  16. If it is linked to the cruise, they will have an arrangement with a hotel, particularly if they are paying the bill. These aren't dedicated quarantine hotels as in days gone by. That is the case if testing positive on the ship, but not sure of the cruise lines level of involvement should you test positive prior to boarding. As residents, we still have to complete our 7 days of isolation, but if we can take our own transport or live within 2 hours of the port for the cruise line to get us there, we are able to complete that in our own home. If we are more than 2hrs or need to get a flight home, we are off to the same hotels.
  17. I am aware that at least some of the Hamilton hotels that offered a free shuttle to Portside are going to continue this with the new terminal. I expect it might be a little bit more restricted due to the extra time it will take. Airolodge was one, and I can't recall the other one I read. They are also a good option for car storage, so you can park, stay the night, get a shuttle to the terminal and leave your car parked there for a fee. Their current details on their site: ***FREE TRANSFER TO CRUISE TERMINAL (CONDITIONS APPLY)*** UNDER COVER CAR STORAGE $7.00 per day. MUST BE PREBOOKED
  18. A pity that covid destroyed their whole business model, so it looks like back to basics from their Hamilton facility for quite some time into the future. The new facility is still up for sale, and quite possible they still have money tied up in the property they can't afford to develop. A shame all round.
  19. Is that the same as me saying - all this covid cr@p is doing my head in? I get it. For two years we didn't travel anywhere except work and shopping centres, which in Barb's case is same same. A simple trip now is more than adequate to keep the travel bug at bay for a bit. I am loosely planning another big one though, but waiting for Barb to make a call on when she wants to retire first. There must be a bit of an appetite left, which is more relevant to us that the financial risks of it. Nice looking trip BTW.
  20. Reading their site a few days ago to see what was in the wind for their new facility. Turns out nothing. They have also announced they are no longer doing airport shuttles, due to the expense of operating long hours, 7 days.
  21. AIS destination has updated to Sydney. Encounter must be departing soon!
