  1. My husband and I signed up for the first time on the NCL Jade, last August. At first, we were told by the people at Cruise Next that Dining with the Officers was only reserved for Sapphire and higher. I am Sapphire but my husband is platinum. Our friends whom we cruise with are also sapphire and were signing up as well. I told them that I would not go without him, so they were able to accommodate him. Our friends were assigned to a different table with other officers, and we were seated with very nice folks and an engineer from Croatia with interesting stories to relate about his career and family. The dinner was an informative experience, and we look forward to doing it again.
  2. We were on the Jade last month, which is a bit older than the Epic. Everything on this ship was well maintained, crew members were constantly cleaning, and painting, One ladies bathroom had two toilets that didn't flush, and I noticed that they were attended to later on. I heard that NCL pays attention to what is posted here on Cruise Critic. Maybe that is why they never built a second ship like the Epic. Many people said that they would not book a cruise on it, including me, but others do like it. If NCL is going to build more mid-sized ships, they should make exact copies of the Jewel Class ships. They do have fewer venues, but they are large enough to accommodate people, so reservations are not necessary except for the Specialty Restaurants. The pools are larger than those of the megas and newer ships. They shouldn't try to cram too much, because the venues will be smaller, and reservations will become necessary. When I'm on vacation, I don't want to be tightly scheduled.
  3. Don't worry about what someone else says. Just go with an open mind, and you will have a wonderful cruise.
  4. We prepay our DSC, so that we are not bothered with it at the end, and our specialties are included as latitude or booking perks.
  5. Wishing all aboard the Gem a smooth and safe journey.
  6. I hope that's the case on all ships.
  7. I love Lisbon and The Azores. My family went there many times by plane and stayed a while.
  8. Hi Jim, Check with your doctor. He would be the one to give you the best advice. Do you have to fly, or is the port near you? As others have suggested, call the special needs department for anything that you might require. Meals can be delivered to you by room service. Good luck.
  9. We have been on the Pearl, and she's a very nice ship. Find a you tube tour of her.
  10. When we were on the Joy last year, my husband got a can of 0 from a bar in the buffet. I don't remember if they opened it for him, or not.
  11. Neither are we. The words hurry and rush are not in my or my husband's vacation vocabulary.
  12. Just to be on the safe side, I'd choose the 2:pm.
  13. I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. The best thing to do would be to speak with NCL.
  14. It says in the contract of carriage that the cruise line can change itineraries. NCL does allow jeans in good condition to be worn to dinner. Maybe not ripped ones.
  15. Do try to go to St. George, either on NCL's free ferry or the public one. The area is lovely and quaint. For beaches, there is Tobacco Bay and St. Catherine. I loved to visit the shops and the Perfumery.
  16. Take the Ferry to St. George, then a taxi to Clearwater.
  17. If you are used to Royal's Oasis Class Ships, you'd probably want to try NCL's "Away Class ships. I liked the Joy. I hear good things about the Escape.
  18. Those sea days are what we like. I want to sail from Boston, to avoid the expense of airfare and hotels. New York is OK, because we can hop on Amtrak without the need of an overnight in New York.
  19. If you have the name and number of the agent who called you, call him again.
