  1. I also noticed what they said about the cabin being dark. We've had some experience with that. On Celebrity some of the balconies are double and triple deep. People consider them prime locations so a long time ago we were able to book one and had that same experience of the cabin being dark because the (covered) balcony was so deep. Never again!
  2. No. I booked a cabin in a different category but the Future Cruise Consultant (this was on Princess ship) said that for a $200 deposit I would be put on a waitlist for the category that was sold out. I made that $200 deposit so I am on that supposed waitlist. I also have a cabin booked in a different category for that cruise. (I had 4 usable FCCs that she said would NOT put me on the waitlist but did qualify as my deposit for the available cabin) Disputing that this happened doesn't help to answer my question . I'm asking people who were in my situation in the past if Princess actually goes to this waitlist first when cabins become available or if I need to keep monitoring my cruise for availability myself. *****
  3. The cabin category we wanted for an upcoming cruise was all booked so the Future Cruise Consultant onboard our cruise suggested I make a $200 waitlist reservation (alongside the real reservation I made for the next best cabin category.) My question is - does this "waitlist" really put me ahead of those just checking online to see if a cabin in that category becomes available? Or do I need to constantly check availability myself? Thanks
  4. I think not being able to book specialty restaurants on the Sun might have to do more with it being a new ship and Princess not having that set up yet than what loyalty level or cabin you have. Have you read about anyone being able to book Specialty restaurants yet on the Sun?
  5. The Signature (Suite) dining room is walk-in. You won't need a reservation - you will be seated almost immediately whenever you choose to dine.
  6. I copied this from a blurb on Cruise Critic about the Sun. Is it accurate? https://www.cruisecritic.com/articles/sun-princess-will-debut-a-host-of-new-cabin-types The 76 Cabana staterooms are a completely new idea for Princess Cruises and surprisingly large at 329 square feet. They have double-size balconies as well as a cabana -- a bit like a sun room -- with sliding bi-fold doors so you can open them onto the balcony or keep the cabana as a light-filled enclosed part of the stateroom. These resort-style staterooms have an affordable price point compared to other suites but are surprisingly roomy, making them perfect for families, and they come with the extra perk of having access to the Reserve Collection Restaurant as well as the Cabana Sundeck, pictured above.
  7. Interesting. We've found the service often impeccable but the food leaving something to desire so hoping for the two new dining rooms to step it up in that area. If not we're back to just a balcony cabin.
  8. Doesn't make sense to only include "some" benefits. How will anyone know which are or aren't included. I have a feeling (sorry!!!) that the "Signature Benefits" wording was pasted and copied from the Signature Suite cabin descriptions next door by mistake.
  9. Hopefully it's just the picture but the mini suite bathroom doesn't seem to have the wall plug in the bathroom. But the bar of soap is back!!!! 😁
  10. Sorry - I was comparing the SUN to the Royal Caribbean ship, not the Star.
  11. The Star of the Seas debut is almost a year and a half later. "Star of the Seas is a cruise ship built for Royal Caribbean International and will be the second Icon-class cruise ship built. The name was announced on October 5, 2023. She is expected to enter service on 17 August 2025, "
  12. This is the first new Princess ship that I have been excited to sail on. EVEN with the HUGE passenger load, which we usually hate!
  13. Thanks. Just to be clear. We are NOT going on a cruise. Just looking for an easy last minute, relaxing WARM vacation. Hoping to spend the days at the pool or the beach. When I look at average temps for January it says low 70s, hence my apprehension.
  14. On Celebrity we always book Aqua class, which gives us access to their version of the Reserve dining room and it ALWAYS says early dining (MDR) on our reservation. I know now to just ignore it because once on the ship everything works fine. I have a feeling the same thing will happen once we all sail. At the entrance to the dining room the first night they will ask your name and cabin number and then after that will recognize you. No problems!
  15. Have you ever stayed at either the Marriott or Margaritaville resort in January? We're thinking of going there as a quick winter getaway vacation and I'm concerned it will be cold.
  16. We're on that cruise too! 😁 We're also on the cruise before it. One in a reserve mini and one in a suite. Do we make dinner reservations or are those two dining rooms walk-in only? (In the past reserve was walk-in)
  17. I didn't want a cabana cabin initially but that couch in the cabana is looking pretty attractive right now!~
  18. That's what I was afraid of. 😞 They look like sit up straight and lean a little forward only. 😞 Not how we usually sit on our balcony. 😞
  19. I would imagine that the collaborations with the artist AND the chef have cost a pretty penny.
  20. Thanks so much for posting. I WAS really excited about the new ship but after viewing the video I have to say I'm disappointed about the cabins. They all look pretty small (including the suite) and the chairs on the balcony look very uncomfortable. I'm trying very hard to reserve judgement until we hear back from the first passengers, though.
  21. @dides - Thanks - that's what I thought but was hoping I was wrong. 😞
  22. What level of suite are cabins 09361 and 09358? They seem to be the only cabins will a real aft view. Also, those balcony chairs look AWFUL!!! We like to relax on the balcony and the old chairs reclined - these are stiff and straight up. 😡
  23. I'm (still) confused about the cabana cabins. I thought that the balconies on the cabana decks were all open to each other so no real privacy. This photo appears to have the metal dividers on the balcony go all the way to the railing as on all other Princess balconies.
