  1. I was on a Holland America ship where the AC went out. My travel clock has a digital thermometer on it. It read 82 degrees. Went to Guest services to complain.(It was 9pm in Aruba). I was told to turn my AC off, wait 5 minutes, then turn back on. Did that, waited 15 minutes and warm air still coming out of unit. Went back down, and some snotnosed representative went to my room with me to check the temperature. She went to the vent and held up a portable thermometer and told me the temperature was acceptable. I asked what it read and she said 27. So I flipped the switch on my clock to Celsius and it read 27. I asked her what temperature was unacceptable, but she just turned and walked away. Now I had noticed all the GS agents were wearing sweaters, so I got into my sleepwear, took my pillow and duvet down to GS and laid down on one of the couches in the lobby. My husband went to the bar. GS called security, security got the hotel manager, they went to our room, next thing I know they gave us a room to sleep in for the night. Next day maintenance went in and in 2 minutes had cool air blowing. They said a switch of some sort had flipped off. I guess Holland did not appreciate me running around in my pj's.
  2. Unfortunately, Holland is the cruise line I mostly see the abuse of non service animals. Don't bash me because I have seen it on other lines, but the majority are on Holand. These are the people that dress up their dogs and roll them around in strollers. WHAT SERVICE ARE THEY PROVIDING WHILE IN A STROLLER!!!! When I book a trip on Princess lines, I immediately get a pop up box right before payment that reminds me the mobility devises cannot be parked in the hallways, and you must contact Princess Medical Needs if you will be using a devise so they can ensure the devise will fit through the doorway. You then select I understand, or decline. With decline, your reservation becomes a 24 hour hold and no payment is accepted. Maybe that is what Holland needs. to keep the rug rats off. Don't get me wrong, if I could bring my dog on a cruise and save on boarding costs, I would , but I know he would make everyone but me miserable. (his name is Demon, and trust me he is named properly).
  3. If you go to www.ADA.gov, the guidelines for service animals are clearly defined. It specifically states Emotional Support animals are not service animals. There are also 2 questions that the Cruise lines can ask. If asked in the exact context, there is no problem denying the animals. The problem is, that employees do not ask the questions properly. I worked in the transportation business for years and we had to ask specifically "what service has your dog TRAINED to provide". Of course the owner got into the "you cannot ask me about my disability" My response was " I did not ask you about you disability. I asked what service your animal was trained to provide" Some times I had to repeat 4 or 5 times, but eventually I got the "comfort animal". We then handed the passenger a copy af the ADA document and refunded their money, and denied service.
  4. I have a bit of time before we travel on Holland again. I'm wondering if Holland still assigns boarding times according to decks, do they now allow you to choose your time? The last time we traveled Holland, we were assigned a 3:30pm boarding time, for a 5:00pm departure. We did not even make it to our stateroom before muster. That was fun with our carry-ons. I think that was back in 2017. Have not sailed with Holland since. Also, does the coffee shop open at a reasonable hour now. Last time, they did not open until 9am. (2 years before the pandemic) Crappy time to open.
  5. Thanks for your reply and since we are traveling out of Ft. Lauderdale, I think we will be far enpuch away from the Netherlands.
  6. I understand I am supposed to utilize this forum to ask where the smoking areas are on the Rotterdam. I really don't want to scan 33 pages to maybe find the info I am looking for. If someone could please answer me, I will let you continue to chastize me.
  7. We are flying in the day of the cruise. Hotels costs more than the air fare we paid, and we will take our chances. Rather spend the money at another port. Thanks for the information. I will look at Google maps and figure out something. Just need the munchies, can eat lunch on the ship.
  8. We are traveling on Princess in August 2023. Paperwork says Brooklyn/ Manhattan terminal. Everyone says Brooklyn, so I will go with that. I have a few questions. First, is there a drug or convivence store nearby? Want to take munchies on the ship, but not fly with them. Also, I know New York is a whole different world. When the porters take your bags, do you tip what you would in Florida, or do you up it because the cost of living is so high there?
  9. Last time we were in Ft Lauderdale, the Elite/Suite/Platinum line was really long. We brought along 2 new Princess folks with us. No line for them. They were on the ship before we finished security check. We tried to go in with them and were told no. Go figure.
  10. We were on a Carnival ship one time, where we were up at 6:30am to have a morning smoke and coffee. That's about the time crew starts setting up deck loungers. On this particular ship, there are loungers in the smoking area, and as soon as the chairs were put out, a ady walked up and put her room towel, beach bag, book and all her stuff on a chair and left. Fast forward to 10am after the casino was brutal, we went back up to the smoking area to hang for a wall and her stuff was still there, untouched. The skies started darkening and we had one of those famous Caribbean squalls and her stuff got drenched. All of a sudden she comes running out to get here stuff and started screaming at the group of us that were laughing at her, as to why were not considerate enough to get her stuff out of the rain and how her stuff was ruined, which got us laughing even harder. She did not get the concept of how moronic her comments were. Fond memories.
  11. I am probably the only person on this site that wishes they would bring the old way back. (Not where you stand outside sweltering, but in the meeting lounges). This new way does absolutely nothing to prepare you for an emergency. I understand it is a pain. However, if there was an emergency, I really do not want to be hindered , and create to the chaos because I am behind someone that was unpacking instead of watching an evacuation video. Yes, I watch the video every time because ech ship is different, and I want to know my responsibilities. Maybe require someone brand new to a cruise line be required to go to an in person muster. Each cruise line does things differently. Do I go to my stateroom and wait for directions like HAL, do I bring flotation devise from my room on RCI big ship vs small ship? Or is my muster station on my door really where I am supposed to go? (On my last Carnival Cruise, they changed where our station was for our room and failed to update the door instructions). Call me a worrywart, but I believe in Better Safe than Sorry.
  12. I went to the spa to purchase some of the hand soap, and they don't sell it. Smells really good.
  13. This is not a "Princess" thing, but a CCL thing. Carnival has been offering this type of fare for a while now. A lot of cruising newbies start with Carnival, and of course they want the "perfect location" for their cruise, so they are willing to pay more. WHEN I AM DESCRIBING A TYPICAL CARNIVAL CRUISER, PLEASE DO NOT FEEL I AM DESCRIBING SOMEONE ON THIS BOARD!!! I KNOW THERE ARE A FEW PEOPLE THAT MAY THINK I AM PICKING ON THEIR PREFERANCES, AND I AM NOT. I AM POINTING OUT GENERALITIES. When you go to the Carnival boards, you will see people looking for recommendations for specific cabins, not general locations. They are willing to pay more, so no guarantees for them. They are not willing to chance getting a cabin on deck 8, rather than deck 9 where all the action is. They are willing to pay #75 dollars extra PP/per sailing to be one of the first on the ship to get their drink quota started. Assigned cabins cost more. The unfortunate thing is when you choose interior rooms like we do, we have to do assigned rooms, and Carnival offers "bunk" style rooms for interior guarantees, and we are too old for those. So I have to "Choose my own". This negates any "free" casino rooms offered, as lately you have to choose a guarantee room for your free room. Back when, it was almost a given you would be given an upgrade when you booked a "guarantee" room. Not so much anymore. For casino offers, it does not matter so much, as your deposit is not refundable, and if you choose your room, the price is still $0 until you choose to upgrade. This extra charge for choosing your room apparently has done really well with Carnival, so CCL is trickling down to Princess. Wait until they start doing the upsells to get on the ship before Elites and Platinums!!!!!!!
  14. We were on the CB in January for 14 days, and when the flowers fell off the plants in the dining room, they were not replaced. When we went into a port, some locals were selling handmade paper flowers for the school there, so we purchased 6 of them, filled a small drinking glass with tissues, and decorated our table. Amazing how many people came over to tell us how festive our table looked. After dinner, we took them back to our room till the next day. Then repeat.....
  15. Do people really pay $55 for one fitness class during a cruise?
  16. A small note to this..... if you charge money to your room to use up OBC on slots, you must play at least $5 before you cash off that machine. Otherwise the system thinks you are using the machine as an ATM and it will freeze your account.
  17. Just got notification of delayed departure on Caribbean Princess for Saturday due to Gasto related illnesses on board right now.
  18. We are on the 14 day Caribbean Princess Starting 1/27. When we get back, I will report back where he eats. He is stubborn as hell. I guess I will tell my sister in law to pack a pair of jeans or pants in her suitcase. And just an FYI, the last time we cruised on Holland America, pants were required for men and women. Skorts needed to look like a skirt. They were really polite in telling us that we needed to change, and they would hold our table.
  19. Folks, I am not the bad guy here. I was just hoping that everyone would say he would be denied service by wearing shorts. I cannot force him to pack pants. He does not belong to me. My husband and I both wear jeans, but eat at buffet on , as we call it, dress up nights. I was going to print out this thread for him to read, but not anymore. Too many responses that favor him.
  20. On formal nights we always eat in the buffet. We try to respect those who choose to get dressed up. That being said, when it is not a dress up day, my jeans are clean, not faded and not ripped. Same with my shirts. I truly wish there was a way to have one dining room for those that want to get dressed up, and one for ones that don't. I don't want to add weight to my suitcase.
  21. I know me & my husband wear jeans and a decent shirt, but my BIL does not want to pack long pants.
  22. OK. I know what the website suggests, but I would like to know what people are wearing in the dining room for non-gala nights. If someone shows up in shorts, will they be turned away? We are cruising with a couple that mainly cruises with Carnival, where short of bathing suits allows just about anything.
  23. When we get dropped at the Ship in Ft Lauderdale, where and how do we pick up our Medallions? Tried to be a cheapo this time and pick up at the terminal. I do not recall seeing anyplace to pick them up.

  25. There is a small tray on the desk area in your room. Usually has water and glasses on them.
