We have our reservation with Adventure Falklands 🐧🐧🐧FYI- Patrick Watts has now retired from tourism but ‘Adventure Falklands’ will continues under the direction of Shaun Jaffray who has had 12 years experience working with the company. Has anyone taken a private excursion to Isla Magdalena see the penguins from Punta Arenas? I’m want as many penguin excursions as possible in case we miss a port.🐧🐧🐧 We each have a pair of binoculars and my DH just ordered a spotting scope. @ukpylotWe are going from Argentina to Chile in a verandah cabin on the starboard side thanks to the advice of our PCC. Interesting to hear the captain didn’t rotate the ship. Thanks to everyone for their insights.

The Fleet Report and Daily for Monday May 15th, 2023

I have booked several cruises with the Early Booking Bonus, best part is that it includes Crew Appreciation. I often book an obstructed view(least expensive verandah) and use CO to upgrade to my favorite aft verandah category. Often adding CO is less expensive than what the upgraded verandah would have cost me, particularly if the cruise is longer than 14 days when the daily cost of CO goes down to $15 per day instead of $25 per day. If on a Pinnacle class ship (which the NA isn’t) I still add CO for the dedicated dining room.- 106 replies

Happy Monday! If you don’t have a White Castle near you, it is easy to pick up a box of frozen ones from your local store. My go to place for mini burgers 🍔 in Baltimore was called Little Tavern. Open 24 hours a day, fresh hamburger cooked on a griddle with onions for about 75 cents. Its motto was “buy them by the bag”. This photo is from the movie Diner (which I highly recommend if you haven’t seen it). Positive thoughts to all who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.- 106 replies

I asked on the Rotterdam in February and was told by my cabin steward that it was no longer available. We book fixed seating MDR; I tell my waiter on the first night, that every night we do not want a bread basket but we would like an extra plate of vegetables for the table. This has never been a problem. I never order dessert until after my meal but I always want tea. I explain this to the waiter the first night too. Every night a pot of tea arrives after I finish my meal and then I decide if I would like dessert. It is one of the reasons I like fixed seating.

Wishing a Happy Day to all the Mothers. I am lucky enough to still have both of my parents. They will be coming over this afternoon for a picnic lunch. Here is a picture of my Mom when she was pregnant with me. @cat shepardLoved all the pictures of animal moms. I am still watching the Hayes Pittsburgh eagle camera. The eaglets looking for Mom. Here’s the whole family. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.- 91 replies

Thank you @OlsSalt for your advice about leaving cameras and binoculars outside. The Oosterdam is now cruising SA & Antartica. There are no cabins on the Promenade deck. Thank you @RuthC for the comments about the wind. I usually only travel with a carry on but have decided for this trip to bring a duffel full of winter gear. Any can’t miss excursions either of you would recommend?
-
I am booked in a deck 8 aft verandah for January 2024. My thought was I could view the fjords and Antartica from the verandah and go inside when I got cold and watch through the window, if necessary, I could run up to the Seaview pool. I look forward to any advice people who have done this cruise have to offer.

The Fleet Report and Daily for Saturday May 13th, 2023

Happy Saturday! Although I do not like the word choice of the quote, I think it is important you understand the speaker and the context. The Fault in Our Stars is the story of two teenagers who have terminal cancer. Hazel and Gus fall in love and go on an adventure. The book was extremely popular with my students; it was made into a movie. I love hummus, easy to make and good for you. I’ve recently started adding a roasted beet, adds a bit of sweetness and makes it a pretty color. I would happily raise a glass of Prosecco to those celebrating and cruising. Positive thoughts to those who need them.- 71 replies

What's not to miss on the revamped vegetarian menu?

There is a vegetarian option on the regular MDR menu every evening. I eat seafood and often order multiple appetizers to replace my main course. -

We are still experiencing some effects from the Alberta fire smoke as seen in this morning’s sunrise. Sending positive thoughts to all who have been evacuated and the firefighters. @StLouisCruisers @rafinmd I believe the soccer tournament will take place at the MD SoccerPlex in Boyds which is in Montgomery County. I watched my nephew play there many times. It is a wonderful facility. Forecast is for great weather today, rain tomorrow, better weather on Sunday and Monday. Good luck to his team. Vegan pizza is a challenge; most people expect “cheese” on pizza. I eat cheese but have friends who don’t. If looking for a cheese substitute Aldi’s Earth Grown Vegan Shreds are fair, Whole Foods 365 Plant Based Shreds are good and Miyokos is the best. Positive thoughts to all who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising. Edit: Sandi- We were posting at the same time🤣. The field are about an hour and 15 minutes from me and 45 minutes from Roy.- 95 replies

In other thread that started this discussion, the OPs font was minuscule. This is 8,. It might have been 10. Regardless, it was much smaller than the default font. IMO, it is a hassle to change from the default font because I usually post from my phone. I appreciate the input on an Amazon cruise. It is at the bottom of my cruise destination list.- 83 replies

Love the quote, reading takes me places I have never been, and the soup, and the memes, great way to start my day. @StLouisCruisers I can read the default font on my phone. Thank you for starting us off EARLY every day while Rich was on the world cruise. I bet you will enjoy a few days without setting the alarm clock. I grow spinach and leaf lettuce in window boxes on my deck. Planted the seeds in March, brought them into my kitchen a few times when frost was predicted. I should be able to cut it for the first time next week. It will continue to flourish until the MD weather gets too hot, probably in July. I appreciate the port pictures every day but every time we have an Amazon port, I am not impressed with the experience. Am I missing something? Has anyone done it more than once? Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.- 83 replies

I think you can tell a lot about a person by the type of port pictures they post. I’ve realized mine are either nature or food. Malaga was a beautiful port. We took a wonderful tapas walking tour organized by a RC member. First, to the marketSalt codJamón IbéricoOlives, garlic, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes We went to three different restaurants with delicious food and drink. This is our table at our final stop, notice all the the wine lining the walls. Positive thoughts to all who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.- 74 replies

I appreciate starting my day with the Daily. Sandi- I have always been impressed with your posts and your pictures but you don’t lose socks, now I’m really impressed. @kazu Ivan looks like a new dog. He is lucky to have you. Take care of your elbow. I love the garden center quote. I went to a local native plant nursery yesterday. After we planted, I said to my DH, “ I’m finished. I’m not spending any more money on the yard.” He said, “We need mulch.” 🤣 I will not be accompanying him to the store. I do not like moscato; I love sparkling wine. I wonder how a $400 champagne tastes. Thanks @cat shepard for the description. I’d be happy to share a bottle if someone else is buying. Thanks @dfish for the recipes. I often have roasted sweet potato topped with peanut butter for lunch. Positive thoughts to those who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.- 86 replies

Does HAL Count the Club Orange Fees for Days at Sea
0106 replied to mcrcruiser's topic in Holland America Line
11 day cruise in a verandah on the Rotterdam in February with HIA which included crew appreciation. Bought Club Orange. Spent $150 in the shops. Received 22 days towards our next Mariner level. -
I use a PCC ( HAL TA) she can do it all for me. Book the lowest cabin in the category you are interested. Upgrade to the most expensive. Some TA don’t understand the process. Unless you want to perk of double cruise day credit, I’d book a verandah. I don’t think SS are worth it for the extra space unless there are more than 2 in the cabin. Of course, I am always willing to accept an upsell.
-
I usually booked an obstructed view verandah and try to upgrade to an aft. Adding CO is usually less ham he cost of an aft cabin. I never book a SS, I always hope for a paid upgrade.
-
Signature Suites give you more room, few perks. This is from the HAL website Club Orange You will get added perks, with CO. I book CO for the cabin upgrade and the private dinner on room on Pinnacle ships. Cost depends on the length of the cruise.

Review: HAL Nieuw Statendam April 8th Transatlantic

Thank you for taking the time to review the cruise prior to your accident. I hope you have recovered from your injury and I’m sorry HAL had not responded to you. This is your second thread about the incident. Perhaps they should be combined. -

Thank you for all the beautiful photos on Iris Day. We should celebrate Teachers and Nurses every week of the year. I actually received a gift card to Total Wine one year. The Rotterdam visited Martinique in February. It was a dreary day but brought us a rainbow. The rain didn’t stop me from going on a snorkeling excursion. We were able to snorkel inside this cave. @ottahand7Go Ravens! @kazuI can’t wait to see a photo of Ivan after grooming. Positive thoughts to those who need them. The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday May 7th, 2023

Hello my Daily friends. Just finished planting all the flowers and vegetables I bought yesterday. Many planters with red flowers to attract hummingbirds to the deck. Some herbs, lettuce, spinach and a lemon tree all grown from seeds. My DH made these pots with leftover tile. The annuals have been planted in the beds around the house. Thank you for the pictures of Weymouth. I look forward to seeing it myself in October on the Rotterdam TA. We had HIA excursion credit so decided to use it to visit the village of Abbotsbury. There is a sanctuary for mute swans and a subtropical garden. Some tourists visit museums but I like gardens and local markets in small towns. Positive thoughts to all who need them. Cheers to those celebrating and cruising.- 71 replies
