  1. One that always gets to me is Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, particularly the version sung by k d lang at the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
  2. Because this is Venice and there aren’t many roads for cars, if any.
  3. You may be too far out. Try working backwards and see if you get better answers. I also think that you have mode of transport set to local transport only. When I checked Sept 5 there were direct ICE trains listed.
  4. If the Mecklenburg-Verpommern ticket works it is much cheaper than the Deutschland ticket, unless you need more travel within the same month. I used a regional ticket in 2022 to get to Cochem on the Moselle. That was the Rheinland-Pfalz ticket. However, when I looked I only saw ICE direct trains and regional trains had 2 changes. I would go for the ICE even though it is twice the price.
  5. Could this be an issue with local time vs the time zone of the person looking it up?
  6. And I’m currently in Oslo where it is summer and expecting a high of 17C today.
  7. I’ve only done one ocean cruise before, with Voyages to Antiquity (now defunct). I have river cruised with Uniworld, AMA, and Avalon.
  8. I’d just like to point out that one of the reason’s Americans have had so much difficulty with credit cards is that they have been very slow to adapt to newer, safer technologies.
  9. The good news for me who has no privileges is that the laundry rooms on the Dawn will be suddenly less busy, with all the people who now have laundry included. Especially since I’m on deck 4 which doesn’t have its own machines. I board in 3 days!
  10. I was on the Moselle in early October 2022. The weather was mostly cold and wet. I was on a cycling trip, and found I was wearing all of my layers every day. (A cycling top, a fleece, a light rain jacket, and I bought a thin hat to go under my helmet in Cochem.) It was cold early in the morning and warmed up a bit during the day. November would probably be colder, and the days would be even shorter. Personally, I would never do a river cruise in early November. You are too early for Christmas markets, and standing around while a tour guide does their thing would be quite cold. That said, others do it and enjoy it.
  11. Sorry, I generalized. Face cloths are not common on the Continent, but do exist. (I don't know about the UK; I leave that up to you.)
  12. You can't fly directly to Southampton airport from Canada. Where would you fly into? There are flights from Amsterdam and Paris, but the other destinations wouldn't be accessible directly.
  13. It isn’t just Italy that doesn’t use facecloths. They are rarely found in any European hotels, except maybe the fanciest ones that cater to North Americans. Europeans do not use facecloths.
  14. @mwb1963's wife's Shark would be North American voltage, not European. (They also sell Shark in the UK; those would be European voltage.) IF, and that is a big if, it were to work it would need a converter that is big enough to handle the high wattage of the hair dryer. I have heard of hair dryers that got fried trying to use them in Europe. More to the point, Uniworld, like any other ship, is very afraid of fire, and heat-generating appliances (like hair dryers) are usually not allowed on board. They supply hair dryers that meet their safety standards.
  15. Thanks for that. Less cash for me to carry.
  16. I’m in the same position, and I intend to tip the driver. On a previous land trip where my transportation to/from airport was included, they made a point of stating that a gratuity to the driver was not included because it couldn’t be done operationally. I don’tcknow if the same is true with Blacklane, but I’m going to assume so.
  17. All the known information is in this thread, which has been on the first page of the river cruising forum for quite some time. Scroll to the more recent pages.
  18. Not if you are cancelling for a covered reason, which having a stroke definitely is.
  19. I’m not who you asked this of, but I have been happy with Calforex, with a number of offices across Canada.
  20. Thank you for that. I didn't realize that I could add on to the 7-day pass to cover the airport, probably because when I was looking at the Oslo Pass, it didn't include travel to the airport. As to the distance to the hotel, it was only when I looked closely at Google maps that I realized how close it really is. I expect that I will walk it. Thanks for all your help!
  21. I will let locals respond with detailed suggestions, but you could buy 2 advance tickets for less than one off-peak (which I'm pretty sure is valid all day on Saturday).
  22. I'm looking at the vy.no website. Do I understand that a ticket from the airport to Oslo S will also get me the tram to my hotel (Clarion Collection Hotel Folketeateret) if I don't wish to walk it? I was looking at the Oslo Pass, but I need transportation for 4 days and I'm not sure that I would use the pass enough to justify the cost. I think that I will get a 7 day Zone 1 ticket (which is cheaper than 4 24 hour tickets actually cheaper than 3 24 hour tickets), and not feel that I have to get my money's worth from the Pass.
  23. If you want to try a search, you will need to spell your place names correctly. It is Loch Ness, and the castle is Urquhart Castle. Urquhart Castle may be a ruin, but it is very scenic right on the shore of Loch Ness. Personally, I found it very interesting. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g551809-d189551-Reviews-Urquhart_Castle-Drumnadrochit_Loch_Ness_Region_Scottish_Highlands_Scotland.html
  24. But presumably not a day or two early.
