  1. Also Google "Ho'aloha Park" and see if that is the place you are thinking about.
  2. If your heart isn't absolutely set on the Kanaha area, give thought to Scott's idea of going in the other direction. Actually, given that you may have to use the pedestrian walkway to get out of the dock area, you only have to exit the walkway where it ends at the highway, turn right and go a few blocks to the Maui Seaside Hotel. Their grounds may be private, but the beach isn't. The Maui Seaside Hotel is just before the Maui Beach Hotel, so you don't have to go that far. The Google map leaves a bit to be desired sometimes, but Google the hotel area and see what you think. Hope we haven't made this too confusing. We'll go take a look at that tomorrow so we can give you a better idea about it. You've got us curious about the beaches.
  3. We will be going down to the harbor on Sunday and get a first-hand look at everything. We go to Island Grocery Depot off and on (you'll see that on your map), and it seems it is almost right across from whatever paths there are to the beach in question. Spouse says we'll take a few photos if possible and send you those and our thoughts on the area.. The one thing that we do want to mention is that there MAY be no foot traffic allowed at the port gate (the gate closest to where you want to go). We will ask the gate guard about that. If they make you take the pedestrian entrance/exit walkway you will have to do some additional walking to get over to Amala. Not a super big deal, but worth mentioning. If you are like us, the fewer surprises the better.
  4. Glad you found the information you wanted. Hope you enjoy your cruise and Hawaii!
  5. You could probably do that, of course, but it will eat up a lot of your free time renting and returning the car twice.
  6. No problem. It's simply the Aloha Spirit.
  7. Tell you what. We have to go get gasoline in Kahului this coming Sunday, and the gas station is adjacent to the harbor. We'll just swing by Amala Place and check out what is where - and if it is safe and worth your effort to walk there and back from the ship.
  8. This past Sunday we happened to drive from the airport to the cruise port on the road that cuts through the park, but we can't remember any beaches other than Kanaha and we are curious now. Can you give us any named areas or landmarks so we can figure out what area you are seeing? Thanks!
  9. Don't know how we missed them, but we can only find eight cabins in that category. Regardless, if you Google photos of the Regent Splendor and enlarge them you will see it appears the lifeboats are tucked in to the sides of the ship so they do not hang out and obstruct views.
  10. As far as we know, there is no Kahului Beach. Kanaha Beach Park is about as close as you are going to get to the POA. Some like the area, but if you are walking from the ship to the Park, you have to go past some grungy areas, bad road and the Wastewater Reclamation Plant. Don't know how many homeless have returned to hang out there either. The part closer to the airport may be better if jet noise doesn't bother you. We really mean this as a FYI and not sour grapes.
  11. We believe it is safer at night to put your car in the parking lot at Kahului Airport and take a taxi from the Airport right to the pedestrian entranceway at the harbor. Walking the area between the Maui Seaside Hotel and the harbor pedestrian entry isn't the safest thing to do after dark there.
  12. Your best bet is at the airport (OGG).
  13. ʻIao Valley State Monument will reopen on May 1, 2023. Advance reservations will be required for out-of-State residents for ‘Iao Valley and will be reservable as of Monday, April 17 at 9am Hawaiʻi time, two weeks prior to the scheduled park reopening. All Hawai’i State Parks day-use reservations can be made at https://gostateparks.hawaii.gov. Hawai‘i residents with a valid driver’s license or State ID, continue to get into all State Parks free of charge.
  14. Gee, when we ordered a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Brut on Regent Cruises' Explorer, it was $69. Judging from the menu of bubbly here, the same champagne on the Norwegian Encore is $99. Didn't realize the mark up was quite that great between the two lines. Actually would have figured the pricing would be the other way around.
  15. Odd. A brief check of car rental agencies on the west side indicate at least several operating out of 11 Halawai Drive (not at the airport) as being open weekdays and weekends. It might not be a bad idea to check your information again. As a side note, your ship will be tendering and not docking in Lahaina.
  16. This from a Bank of America website about foreign transaction fees: "A Bank of America foreign transaction fee is a surcharge on your credit card that appears after you purchase something in another currency or your purchase passes through a foreign bank"
  17. According to Forbes Advisor, a foreign transaction fee is a fee charged by a credit card issuer or bank for every transaction made in a country outside of the U.S. Fees vary depending on the credit card or bank’s terms and conditions, but usually fall between 1% and 5% of the purchase amount.
  18. Try Googling "Off road tours on Kauai".
  19. To the contrary. It is important people realize that If everyone who visited a beach took home some sea shells or sand, there would be less beaches to enjoy.
  20. Try Oceania's Riviera and Marina for this activity.
  21. We googled "Regent Navigator Cabin 600", and among other things it came up with an old thread by Cruise Critic members that gave a fair amount of information about the cabin and a good pro and con look at it. Even though it is old, certain facts do not change, and it is definitely worth a read.
  22. Just google the subject and you will find a wealth of information about it.
  23. Supposedly, "No" is not a word in a small cruise ship staff's vocabulary. Due to the smaller ship and far less passengers than most all other ships, the staff is better able to get to know the guest's varied likes and and provide them if at all possible. That ideally creates a feeling of exclusivity.
