  1. I wrote a review ( review section of CC ) of our Christmas Cruise, I guess I am lucky I do not really notice things like scratches etc. I did notice the decking there were places it needed a redo. There was a sail missing but our other sails were up I would say 99% of the daylight, that I notice because I love sails. We could not go into Falmouth Harbor twice and St. Barts twice and at Prickly Pear were were anchored further out. The swells were big and speaking to friends in PR they said all winter thus far the Caribbean there has been different, rougher weather and swells. I have been going to the Caribbean sailing since I was 17, 74 now, it does seem to be rougher. 27 times with WS, all sailing ships with the exception of one, for what is important to me: sails, great shower water pressure and hot shower water, laundry service, greatest service is still there. I am at a disadvantage we have only sailed with WS with the exception of two supply ships and one river cruise. Yes, the a/c has been loud at times. On our Christmas cruise the food was the best we ever had. I mentioned that on my review. Food is my hobby, I can safely say it was superb. Lobster tails at the barbecue mean nothing to me they are frozen, then again I am from lobster land New England. I hope they spiff up the Surf, we adore her and that WS experience. I hope she is sail worthy long in the future.Missing sails need to replaced. We are on the Pride, Reykjavik to Montreal in the fall, can't wait. Happy Sailing all.
  2. The WS hotels are nice. We are staying in the Borg in Reykjavik with the "pick your perk " for the 3 rd night, we are going in 3 days early. We choose the Borg then found out it is a WS hotel so we took our perk. The Borg for us is about $300 no breakfast, the $ 200 for the perk is a good value with breakfast and bus to port. We love the Savoy in Rome it is one of 2 hotels in Rome with a roof top bar, porch, the sunsets over the St. Peter's dome, gorgeous, people are lovely, great location, that is a WS hotel. Of course what you pay WS is a lot more than going on your own which we do. Frankly we would not stay in any other hotel in Rome. In Barbados their hotel was, think it still is, Accra Beach Hotel ( spelling might be off ) nice hotel, great pool. beach walk to lovely restaurants. Always cheaper to reserve on your own but the perk makes for a great value. Is your 2025 a typo or are the schedules out? Happy Sailing
  3. I concur with R&RD, we fly into to San Jose, we love the Marriott near the airport, it is on a coffee plantation really pretty, we get a driver also. Depending where you live Liberia Airport might be easier to get to about same distance perhaps a bit shorter. Great Cruise Happy Sailing
  4. Hi, The Caribbean is also perfect gentle winds, We take a 14 day trip every January, this year we did 17 at Christmas. I love the BVIs, Ils de Saints, Bequia, St. Lucia. We like leaving from St. Martin or Barbados because from Boston relatively easy to get there. Also, on the Wind Star ( 149 pax ) they do nice Panama Canal, Costa Rica, great stops. I wrote a nice review of the Christmas Cruise on the Review section, it is the 2nd one in, opposite of the one star review. We do vacations with WSCruises and trips, 2 different concepts for us. Both are great for us. I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. Happy Sailing ( Lucky you 9 times Tahiti, beautiful area of our world )
  5. You are missing a great experience. The sailing ships are our favorite. As for motion the sails can cause more stability not less, the ships have good stabilizers plus the sails. If you are looking for a cabin mid-ship, down on the first level calmest place to be. We have crossed the Atlantic twice and the Pacific once on the sailing ships and it has been smooth going. There are engines but when the conditions are correct the Captain shuts off the engines and you have bliss. We we fortunate to sail along the Amalfi Coast engine free it was heavenly. Of course the ocean is the ocean and it can be rough but I ( sailed my entire life ) would rather be on one of the WS Sailing ships than the motor yachts. Plus the deck space on a sailing ship is much bigger, less crowded. We have been on 27 WS cruises, 26 sailing, one motor yacht. The motor yacht was great and we are going on one again in September to Greenland but our hearts are on the sailing yachts. Give one a try. If you are going to Tahiti the Lagoon screams sailing, only way to go is under sail. Happy Sailing
  6. We have been in that room , simply fine, not have to worry about the elevator you can always easily get to your room. If you go to the deck plans 147, draw an imaginary line up 147 is very close to the middle of the ship if you are worried about sea movement. Have a great cruise. Happy Sailing.
  7. Brava that you had a great time. We live WS always have, one of many reason the size, zillion more as well. I assume from your other post Spirit/Tahiti, Tahiti shouts sails, enjoy.
  8. We are very happy WS gives us the option. We get laundry and WI-FI with our status, 27 cruises, we drink maybe 2 glasses of either wine/beer/rum punch a day. I can not drink in the sun or during the day. The package for us so not worth it. We never use WI-FI, like to get away from it all. So giving passengers a choice is critical for us. Hope WS continues with the choice. Happy Sailing.
  9. Bravo to you, let us know how you loved it. Happy Sailing
  10. Charlestown Nevix: Carambola Beach, great swimming, great vistas Ils des Saintes Main St. Grumpy Crèpe maker tiny shop close to where ship tenders come in, he is grumpy but the very best Crèpes, ignore the grump, Plage Pompiers walk to it with the goats and cows, terrific beach, beautiful beach. Great cruise, happy sailing.
  11. I do not know about that, we think 7 days is too short especially Tahiti which is glorious and if you are from the East Coast the flying there is long and grim. We were lucky back WS first started up again in Tahiti we crossed the Pacific on the Spirit 19 days and stayed on for the cruise. Great place and so beautiful. Happy Sailing
  12. We were in 334, great real estate. We heard no noise, frankly never do. Suites are lovely. Happy Sailinf.
  13. Absolutely, a must do, fabulous trip, you will not regret it… on and on.
  14. If you are on the Surf the watertight doors would be on floors A and B, the middle of the ship is be affected, near aft elevator, agree would be best for you no matter where you are. Reminder getting into the Tenders if the water is choppy might b3 difficult but the crew works miracles and are so kind. Also going down the stairs to get to the tender would be difficult. Hope you can go. Happy Sailing
  15. WS goes to the Prickly Pear Island off Virgin Gorda across from Bitter End Yacht Club, lovely beach great beach picnic location. WS is back to going there now after a few years because it was seriously damaged from the hurricane pre Covid. I mentioned in my previous statement it was in the BVIs. I hate to sound old fashioned but a good paper map of a region is far better and gives a far better gestalt of a region than a Google Map. We are so happy WS is back to Prickly Pear. Happy Sailing
  16. Island Lover: As a former teacher no question is ever stupid. Castries is St. Lucia, Pigeon Island is St. Lucia I have never gone from one place to the other, on a map it looks like a large distance and roads on the Caribbean Islands are not fast. I think Pigeon Island is pretty but not worth spending a good part of the day getting to. Prickly Pear is in the BVIs quite a distance away. Get a good map for yourself gives you the perspective of distances. Gratefully, we have traveled and vacationed on WS Cruises, first thing I go to to is a good map, it shows the gestalt of where you are going. Being a foodie, the only time I was in Castries I went to the Chocolate Hotel and learned how to make chocolate it was fun. Barbados is lovely: sounds touristy but the cave tour great. Acura Beach Hotel nice, great beach, walk to town lovely restaurants, we love the restaurant Champers because food great, directly on the water and a terrific art gallery. Love the hotel The Crane, now a Hilton, problem with it is not near a town if that is important to you, beautiful setting great pools and a beautiful beach, great to relax and enjoy. Hilton near Bridgetown, we love waking up in the morning of the trip and seeing the Surf's masts, good beach and pools. St. Martin we simply go to the Divi close to the town, in Covid times literally everything is outside, great pools, beach and restaurants. We love Spain and Barcelona, once we got on the Surf in Barcelona and sailed the Spanish coast, glorious. Enjoy your trip ask away. One would think Boston to the Caribbean, very few direct flights and they are at miserable times. Happy Sailing
  17. We adore Gertrude's and being a foodie the conk fritters are unbelievable. Have fun.
  18. I have done both as well. I am a bit prejudice I love the BVIs because my Caribbean sails on the Surf are my vacations and for me it is beaches. I love Jost and White Bay and the conk fritters at Gertrude's, a fabulous beach bar/ restaurant/ beach, Prickly Pear on Virgin Gorda the small sound across from from Bitter End Yacht Club is a fabulous place for the beach picnic, Sopers Hole is wonderful. I love Antigua great beaches but WS has not been going there due to ocean swells so it has been better going to Basseterre St. Kitts, beautiful vistas and beaches. St. Barts my least favorite but a nice town and marina to walk around and Shell Beach is walkable but you need reef shoes. Pigeon Island, St. Lucia is another nice beach picnic spot but Prickly Pear is better, the Pitons is a sail by not a stop. Very beautiful. Castries is the stop as well in St. Lucia, lovely spice market. Mayreau all beach. Bequia has a nice small town, beaches you take a cab to and a cute wooden boat building/ history tiny museum. Very pretty island. St. George's Granada another terrific spice market. Agree with Redtravel do both 7 days flies by, 14 great. Happy Sailing
  19. St. Kitts Basseterre a great port, terrific beaches, beautiful scenery. Carambola Beach is fabulous. We had two ports cancel and went there twice. Great. Happy Sailing.
  20. The BBQ starts around 10-2 or 3. Food service starts at 12. There is a ship excursion to the baths and they get passengers back in time for lunch. Prickly Pear is a terrific beach. Happy Sailing
  21. Not sure WS shows it. We could not watch World Cup on the WS TV. We watched it in an open air bar in Antigua and had a great time. You better check with WS, if not research the port you are in that day. We were on the Surf. Happy Sailing.
  22. Hi, Buy a map, a good map tells distances between islands, names bays etc.I go no where without a map, Google simply does not give a gestalt of an entire area. I do not think you will be able to island hop in this area. We did Tahiti with WS in 2014 and it tours were all done on the island we were anchored near or docked at. Great trip. Happy Sailing.
  23. When we went to Mt. St. Michel.yes we were greeted by a bomb of tourism and crowds but once we climbed up no one was there that was 1993. I bet thinks have changed, it was low tide stupid me went out into the flats, really stupid me, I read/speak French and got caught in the mud sink hole ( quick sand ) and sank about three feet. Scary and creepy. I loved the structure then but it would be grim with mobs of tourism. St. Malo is a beautiful town. Might be better to stay and enjoy the town. Mont St. Michel is a 45 minute drive from St. Malo. if you really want to get a guide go with Tours by Locals, we have had great luck with them. Happy Sailing
  24. Unfortunately I only have great remembrance. We were on the first WS Tahiti after we crossed the Pacific on the Spirit. One of our " lucky to be alive " trips. Happy Sailing
