  1. That could be it. I remember, once, the ink smeared on one of ours. Turned out to be because we were handling it with sunscreen on our hands.
  2. That's really strange. I wonder if it depends on the stock they have on board a particular ship. We've done three cruises since the restart, one each on Harmony, Odyssey and Anthem and the cards have been the same as in the past, with the details printed on them.
  3. Oh, yes, could well be. I was only looking at the class of ship and didn't think to check the other itineraries.
  4. It depends on how mobile you are. It's a bit of a hike and it's uphill but there's a lift that takes you up to the top that's pretty close to the dock and avoids the uphill slog. There is a cost but I seem to remember it being not very much, although this was a few years ago. I would actually like to do a land trip there myself.
  5. I agree. It’s one of my favourites. And the weather is unbelievable for this time of year.
  6. Gorgeous pics of Dubrovnik. It's still on my to-do list. I can't believe what nice weather you're having, given the time of year.
  7. Thanks @njhorseman. I did indeed notice your challenge to that poster. I appreciate your insight.
  8. Thanks @GTJ. That's a very interesting story and I enjoyed reading it. 🙂 I had heard (through these boards) about La Guardia's recently completed upgrade but since we'll be flying in from across the pond we're stuck with either JFK or EWR. I'm sure we'll manage just fine one way or the other; in fact, at the moment, the logistics are pointing to flying into one and back out from the other!
  9. Hi, @cruiseat50, in case you hadn't spotted it and might be interested, there's a live review from the Gem going on right now over on the NCL board, here:
  10. For those of us who are unfamiliar with the area and may be planning a trip there (me, for example), this kind of comment is really unhelpful, especially if EWR may be the only viable option. Please share details as to WHY it is so awful as to deserve such a dire warning.
  11. I would do it anywhere that I was taking heavy luggage on a train. Sometimes you're lucky enough to be sitting where you can keep an eye on it, but the chances are higher that you won't be and even in countries with low crime rates there's always a risk.
  12. It's great to see the Captain's Welcome returning. We did not have one on Odyssey in May or on Anthem in September. 😕
  13. Wonder is currently on her way across the Atlantic and there are a couple of live threads going on. Maybe if you post your question on them, those cruisers could potentially get an answer for you. Here's the link to one: And here's the other:
  14. That's interesting. It runs full size on my Samsung tablet, which gives me a nice big screen to play with.
  15. It does mean you need to remember to get up to unlock it a few minutes ahead of arrival at your station but that's a minor inconvenience in exchange for the peace of mind, especially if you're in a seat where it's difficult to keep an eye on it.
  16. I really wish all of the speciality restaurants would offer à la carte options the way Izumi does. We would like a break from the MDR menus too sometimes but we have small appetites so can't get our money's worth. We'd jump at the chance to go to the speciality restaurants and be able to order just a starter and a dessert, or just a main course without having to pay for an entire meal that we mostly won't eat.
  17. According to the posts I've been reading, yes, they not only explained but they did so in advance, so it wasn't a last minute thing. It's also listed in the app under the "Today's important information" tab. So the information was out there but it doesn't seem to have translated into an organisational success story; quite the opposite.
  18. I haven't seen any pictures but someone posting over on Matt's blog is giving a blow-by-blow account and it sounds absolutely awful. I'm doing the same 8-nighter in April but the order of the ports is different for my dates - we will be doing PC and Miami before the Bahamas - so hopefully will not be subjected to this nightmare.
  19. It's an 8-night cruise that previously called at Port Canaveral, then Nassau and Coco Cay, so the stop in Miami is the first US port of call after the Bahamas, hence the requirement to do immigration formalities there rather than at the end of the cruise in Bayonne. From what I've been reading elsewhere, it's not been properly organised - whether that's Royal's fault or CBP's or a combination of both I don't know - and it's an absolute zoo.
  20. It's not and theft does happen. My friend, who lives in France and is a regular user of the Eurostar service, once had her luggage stolen but luckily spotted the thief as he was making his getaway and had the wherewithal to get him stopped. I usually suggest taking a bicycle chain if you're travelling with heavy luggage on European trains so that you can secure it to the structure of the luggage holders.
