  1. No, they are subsidizing revenue. This revenue does nothing for my cruise costs except to possibly raise it as people prove to the cruise line they will pay for this type of thing.
  2. No one on here (save one) has mentioned not tipping, many of us just do it differently
  3. You can’t do that, auto tips are an “all in or all out” proposition
  4. Read the room, my yelling was simply in reply to the yelling of the post I quoted. No nerve to touch here, I am very comfortable in the way I conduct my business; and the staff that cares for me and mine seem very satisfied
  5. Grats being raised annually has nothing to do with people removing them. They raise the gratuities because you pay them without questioning it.
  6. The crew puts the cash in their pocket and it is never mentioned again.
  7. THIS TOPIC HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT ONE CAN OR CANNOT AFFORD
  8. How much do you tip above and beyond the automatic gratuity?
  9. Stating in a public forum how much you tip is very much lacking in taste.
  10. Just another reason to skip the MDR; I am already driven nuts by the traditional conga line, applaud your wait staff, give us good marks on the survey, towel waving pep rally on the second to last or last night.
  11. I’ve never done this I don’t know anyone who has ever done this Doing this would be a really low life thing to do.
  12. The original post I quoted 4 hours ago said prior to 18, that was amended to 19 well after my comment
  13. Gotcha Myro, that edit came after my post. thanks Merry Christmas
  14. But their parents were Diamond prior to their 18th birthday, so they are Diamond
  15. And should be receiving Diamond benefits. You will advance to Diamond Plus when you have 175 points, just like everyone else.
  16. I call them, usually the morning of day 2; the wait times seem to have died down by then.
  17. Upon turning 18, your points should not have reverted to 0, you should still have the number of points you earned on the cruises you physically took. if your parents were Diamond prior to your 18th birthday, then you are Diamond now, regardless of whether or not you cruised with them when they were Diamond.
  18. Well said. As long as the entire thing is steeped in such mystery and chinese arithmetic, I (and more and more every day) will distribute our funds our own way.
  19. I love your post, to clarify the firs line however, removing pre paid gratuity doe not affect the contracted salary of the crew member AT ALL. None, zero, zilch
  20. I have no idea if you would be flagged or even what that would constitute. Real world experience, however, I can say having not ever paid auto-gratuity, Royal gladly accepts my cruise bookings time and time again.
  21. Wow, you have me all figured out. I am really ashamed and quite embarrassed now. You have certainly made me reconsider my evil ways. By the way, you obviously don't understand the math if you consider the $20 anything but incredibly generous. No one claimed to tip only the $20, but to show a 1600X increase in daily salary of one person by simply not participating in a silly scheme
