  1. I was hoping it would be on Victory until reading this thread. This being my 6th cruise but first carnival I will be very disappointed if they don't have a real show(musical etc). If they don't have a show what do you do at night. Not wild about stand up comedy and don't drink or gamble. Why do they have a 3 floor showroom if they don't have a show. Hasbro is cool it is a knock off of Family Game Night on DiscoveryFamilyChannel, but the contestants are a family you know mom dad, and children against another family. It also is NOT A SHOW. Please tell me thy do has a real show not just game shows.

the reason they do it is to save money on professional entertainment. As I said before they should have this during the day for kids and professional entertainment in the evening.

  2. We were just on the Glory and the lounge used for the comedy shows was quite large. Some of the adult shows were packed but I think everyone was able to get in. There was always room at the family shows.

We sailed on the NCL Dawn last year and there comedians performed in the main theatre and I didn't like it at all. I thought it was too big and the comedian wasn't strong enough to play a room that large.

Whenever we go to an adult show we know to get there early and lots of people walk in cant find a seat and leave.

Dont think you should do that to your customers when you have a larger lounge sitting empty.

  3. We are on the same boat (no pun intended) as you. My wife doesn't drink and I can count on one hand the number of alcoholic drinks that I consume in a weeklong cruise. Yet, we've "somehow" managed to enjoy our time on Carnival cruises.

While saying that "ALL that Carnival passengers do is drink" is obviously an inaccurate generalization, I do believe that Carnival's daily activities do incite more drinking than other cruise lines. Nothing wrong with that; it's just part of the fun, laid back atmosphere that Carnival is known for. From bartending competitions, hairy chest contests, alcohol tasting, to the constant push for daily drink specials, all seem to point in that direction.

One big difference that we've found between Carnival and Princess (as well as other cruise lines that we've sailed on) is the focus of their daily activities. As someone mentioned above, Princess offers lectures, guest speakers, demonstrations, daytime theater performances, piazza entertainment, culturally enriching presentations, workshops, etc, so you're bound to find more activities that stimulate your brain intellectually than with alcohol. Can you still get drunk on a Princess cruise? Absolutely! But for those who would prefer to spend their vacation time somewhere else besides the bar, Princess and other cruise lines seem to offer a bit more variety. On Carnival, about the only thing that has some enrichment value is the wine tasting, and once again, it involves alcohol.

As mentioned above, I've enjoyed my past Carnival cruises tremendously, even when I'm not drinking much, but I will admit that there are times when I've found myself pacing around the ship looking for something stimulating to do. Like you, I'm pretty good at creating my own kind of fun. But for those times when I do want something more, I find Carnival activities a bit lacking unless there's drinking involved.

like. The only thing resembling stimulating without alcohol is trivia but it is amazing how often the same questions are repeated.

  4. We met you and Sheila on the Ruby Princess. Sorry to read the news from Blacksburg at VPI.

We still prefer Carnival and have no plans to sail Princess in the near future.

Trying to remember you and circumstance. What is your name?

  5. Stu, the cookies and desserts and sandwiches are included in the cruise fare but the coffee is an extra charge, even for the freshly brewed in the IC.

We tried Princess last November and weren't impressed with the MDR food. It was the same quality of meat and seafood as Carnival. We have more fun on Carnival too. We sailed out of LA on the Crown and the guests impressed us as mostly middle-middle class folks with delusions of grandeur. Back to Carnival for us.

When you buy the coffee card the freshly brewed coffee at the int cafe is no charge.

  6. Yeah, they are gone. First they swapped out the real chocolate with something you couldn't even call chocolate, and then got rid of them when THEY said people didn't like the chocolate, or didn't care.

Hello, something with Ghiardella or Godiva on the pillow doesn't last long.

Something with CARNIVAL SWEET DREAM on it ends up in the garbage (there's a reason you don't see private label chocolate in the cany aisle of the supermarket/stationary store).

If it was such an expense, they should have raised the fare $1.79 per person.

Dont know if they did it with the chocolate but they are known to manipulate passengers like this.

  7. We aren't big into bars or drinking so the slow pace of Princess may be fine...I just remember Princess being so much nicer but I am so familiar with Carnival I'm nervous to switch...The ships we are looking at are the Regal Princess or either Magic or Sunshine for Carnival..I like that Carnival has the unobstructed balcony but Princess also has a deal where we would get $350 in on board credit... We like having Guys Burgers and the burrito stand on Carnival..What does Princess have that's like that?

Princess has neither but does have burger grill and superior service. Very nice that you gather your lunch or breakfast sit down and crew brings your drinks.

Also nice that you order your omelet they give you a ticket, you find seats and crew brings omelet to you.

Also very nice assortment of items for lunch buffet that is kept much hotter than anything on Carnival.

  8. they used to do it like on the main stage all the time. It was much better to have it there, and many cruisers agree. Unfortuneatly Carnival doesnt seem to be paying a lot of attention to this one... the lines to get in the comedy club are ridiculous, and many shows are missed because of this...

They want an intimate comedy club but dont seem to care that many of their customers miss the show due to no room

  9. Has anyone experienced Carnival's comedy shows on the big stage forward? On my last cruise, due to some rocky seas, they had to delay the production show that was scheduled and the comedians that were normally scheduled for the aft lounge got moved. I didn't go and I'm curious about how well it works out when they make changes like this.

Very rare for this to happen but wish they would show the adult shows on main stage as more people would get to see the show.

  10. Where do you get your empty glasses? Room service? For this or even if we wanted a glass in our room.

When we meet our room steward we ask him to make sure we have four white wine glasses in our cabin each day.

I carry a pocket knife with cork screw with me on every cruise.

Last cruise on Princess somehow broke my cork screw. Brought bottle of wine to DR and asked asst waiter to open it. He did but said if we drink it in DR he would have to charge corkage.

For our second bottle borrowed corkscrew from room steward.
