  1. Companies get greedy and build too much capacity. The cruise companies are building larger and larger ships. When there is an oversupply because of that greed they can fail. The oversupply could be causesed by recession or natural disaster, war etc. it would not be surprising if one of the mainstream cruise lines fails.
  2. Our ship used the ships tenders. The restaurants in port area where the tenders offloaded will probably be most effected, they were pushing expensive lobster rolls and blueberry pie. I agree that time will tell and the local community could always reverse the decision.
  3. The day I was there on a cruise there were 3 ships, 2 large ships and 1 small ship. About 6500 cruise passengers.
  4. The cruise vessels being limited are not public transportation. Also cruise ships are not a necessity. They are a leisure activity. There is no need to move people to and from Bar Harbor by cruise ship.
  5. The cruise lines have massive debt. Not much of a successful busness.
  6. I agree that is their goal but I don't have to like it. I fear these supersized ships with thousands of passengers are a catastrophe waiting to happen. Some here seem to think it is the cruise lines right to go wherever they please they please without regard to impact. Or that Bar Harbor is attacking them personally.
  7. I knew it was supposed to be clever but it really was not. Not surprised that many ports are rebelling against cruise lines who in their greed for profit have built bigger and bigger ships every year without regard to their impact on ports. Bar Harbor won't be the last. Maybe Icon of the Seas will only be able to do Coco Cay and Labadee.
  8. MSC may have an agreement with Costa Rica and Columbia to allow cruise passengers to call at their ports without a passport. So OP needs confirmation from MSC.
  9. They are restricting access to Bar Harbor not to the national park.
  10. They need a passport for that itinerary. A passport card or EDL or birth certificate will not suffice.
  11. There is plenty of land tourism because of the national park, They don't need cruise ship tourism but there are a good number of cruises ships that could call there, Viking, Azamara, Seaborn, Oceania and Silversea to name a few have ships with under 1000 passengers.
  12. Bar Harbor will have plenty of tourists without cruise ship passengers. Arcadia national park is there. A town of 5,000 gets swamped when three mega ships arrive. It is cruise ship tourists they don't wan't.
  13. To throw it back to you do you have any reference they are included? Not all countries in the western hemisphere are included. Columbia is in South America and a passport is needed. Panama and Costa Rica are in Central America and a passport is needed.
  14. I posted it last Friday on the Bermuda port of call board and I expected and wanted others to post it on the cruise line boards as I was not going to post it on ten cruise line boards. The reason I replied is that another person posted that the arrival card was required and you then posted an online link to the arrival card. It you had read the link you posted it says air and yacht arrivals. That is where you all were short. I posted on this thread to correct the misinformation that was posted.
  15. The arrival card is only for air and yacht arrivals. Cruise passengers do not have to fill out the arrival card.
  16. You guys are days late and a dollar short. 🙄 The arrival card is not required for cruise passengers.
  17. I am the same and that is one of the reasons I probably would not book Viking. I believe Heidi13 posted on another thread that they only book ship excursions so that means no research needed but I am DIY and independent excursion type. Ship sponsored excursions I have found are generaly disappointing. Oceania has an option for included excursions but I was able to book without them. . I have not looked lately at Viking but when I looked in the past they wanted full payment when booking. So a year out full payment. If that still exists that would be another negative.
  18. You get whatever data is on your home plan with AT&T.. Since I have unlimited data at home I have never had it slow down. I don't know about other carriers. As far as a WIFI option my post gives a link to the WiFi option.
  19. Who is your carrier? I have AT&T and always buy the $10 a day travel passes in Bermuda. Works pretty good on the whole island. My buddy has Verizion and does the same thing. There is also WiFi you can buy in the Dockyard. I never used it so I don't know how reliable. https://www.dockyard.bm/dockyard/visit/
  20. HAL has training centers in Indonesia and the Phillipines so they hire their crew from those. I was told Filipinos are mainly cabin stewards and Indonesians are mainly serving in the lounges.
  21. Is it grown in Canada? I only buy coffee beans that are freshly roasted which pretty much from local roasters. There are some roasters not local that mail out beans that arrive a few days after roasting. Does Kicking Horse do that? I will check the Target across the street for but if it has not been roasted in the last 7 days it will be a no go.
  22. Really, no more authorization and no more $40 fee.
