  1. They are getting the extra money for each additional cabin they clean over and above the original number they had. Their pay was not cut when they went to once a day versus two.
  2. Is that any different than what the cruise lines pay for the things such as alcohol, and other things they sell on the ships for greatly inflated price? Call it dynamic lending, like the lines call dynamic pricing. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
  3. If you don’t point out the not so nice things, nothing will change. Every body has the right to have their own opinion and let it be known. Here is one on Perry Grant. Many years ago we were on Holland AmericA and he was a permanent lounge act, and yes he had his groupies. One night the guest entertainer didn’t make the ship so they had him do the nightly show in the theater. We weren’t a big fan as we could hear him when we walked by the lounge. We went to theater to verify if we were right. About ten minutes into it we decided we were right and decided to leave. There was actually a line of people in front of us and in the other main aisle. The consensus at the bar was he was a Liberace wannabe.
  4. This is from a person that thinks buying drinks on a cruise is a bargain, or even cruising in general is a deal? I’m not the only one, the parent company of Budweiser did $57.8 Billion in sales, the cruise industry as a whole did $19 Billion, in 2022. Like someone once said “you can fool some of the people all of the time.”
  5. We just got our tax bill in September. For some reason, here in AZ, the payments are due in October and April. The bill shows line item by line item, what we paid last year and what we will pay this year along with the percentage change plus or minus. Ours went up 3%, inflation and all.
  6. I’m not doing road trips either, they too aren’t worth my hard earned bucks. I just responded to the general comment made by the poster. We live in the Phoenix area and there all kinds of things to do locally. I didn’t even mention the transportation cost to get to the cruise port and back home, since we have to fly in the day before and stay in a hotel. Last time, the shuttle to and from the airport, cab to the hotel, hotel cost, cab to the ship and to the airport was about $1,200 which also a cost to be added to the whole trip. Post like this is what keeps me around, keep it up. In the meantime We’ll continue to sit around the pool, drink my $.60 Bud from the supermarket which is what I usually pay when they have holiday sales. You can continue to pay your $100 per day to sleep in you walk in closet sized room, and grossly overpay for everything else. It’s all about choices.
  7. Our last cruise, on a RCL Group ship was on Celebrity Equinox, in a Sky Suite, and the total cost was about $750 per couple per day. It looks like you are saying, to have a land vacation the cost would be $1500 to $2250 per day, I seriously doubt that. We do land vacations for the experience and there is no way you can exactly compare that to cruising. First, we don’t normally eat three meals a day, not even on a cruise. Secondly, we have 494 days at sea and neither one of us has ever had a second course of anything. It started out that the food was excellent and the portions we more than enough. It changed when the food quality went down to just acceptable and the smaller portions was enough. We eat out a lot, especially here at home. We have our go-to ones depending on what type of food we want. We’ve had this list for many years and haven’t had a quality, or service issue yet. Drinks. The free drinks on the ship are more than we normally drink. When we travel, since beer is our drink of choice, we usually buy it by bulk and keep it on ice in the room. Last time we travelled it was less than a buck a beer, including tax. What is it on a ship $8-$9 plus tip? I’m on this board because I can, there is no place that says all experiences have to be positive. I voice my opinions on politics though I’ve never was one. I voice my opinion on sports though I was never a professional athlete. I voice my opinion on finance though I have little formal training. I’m actually pretty good at it, because of it we are truly live the life we only dream about. Until next time.
  8. I doubt if anybody would bid on an upgrade if they didn’t think it was worth it. Everybody has their own opinion on what they think something is worth.
  9. You based your views based on age only. Guess again. In our groups situation its based on value of product versus price paid. It’s to the point that none of us would go on a cruise, with any line, even for free. As far as I know, none of us has health or mobility issues that would keep us home. We don’t really care where they give their marketing attention.
  10. Vast majority of what people are referring to, RCL cheer leaders? The whole cruise industry is doing pretty well. Ten years ago, we knew 10-15 couples that cruised regularly, several times a year. We know of nobody now, including us. We all bailed pre pandemic because of all the reasons stated by your small minority.
  11. Wall street doesn’t seemed to be impressed. It’s still about $30 a share below the yearly high, and about $50 per share from the all time high. They also paid $3.10 per share dividend at that time.
  12. Also, you start with 0 points with Celebrity so you have to get all the points required to move up to the next level. If you move up to the next level on RCL, it has 0 effect on your X status, it’s a one time deal.
  13. The question is, how often do you take a Celebrity cruise? Based on that, 3 day cruise is 1, and a 14 day cruise makes it 2. If the question was how many days, the answer would be 17. I don’t know where the multiple cabins comes into play.
  14. I doubt, if the numbers were reversed, you would have made this comment.
  15. Because I can and will continue to do so. No cruises in the last four years, but 48 cruises covering 496 days and six cruise lines.
  16. We did two 14 day cruises in the Yacht Club, on the Seaside pre pandemic absolutely loved it. At the time it was only about $200 p.p. per day, all included. This was at the time we were going to walk away completely as with the changes and cutbacks we saw no value in cruising anymore. Post pandemic: Word is out as the prices are doubled what we paid. The value isn’t there so at home is the place to be.
  17. Alaska fees have been higher since we first went there in 2005. It is due to an environmental fee added to the rest.
  18. Their opinions are based on the facts. The 1.5 years the lines were shutdown was an excuse/reason and it changes nothing. Were the people who lost their place they live, or jobs given a pass, according to what I read or hear, it had no bearing or housing. Added bonus: Cruising is a worldwide business that is open to all ages, if they choose to do it. Probably a good portion will not be able to do it based on cost. In 2022, the world population was 8,000,000,000.. That’s billion. Total number of passengers was 20,400,000. This is the number of bodies, for example if you did 50 days that’s figured in the total. For arguments sake and easier math, figure the average is ten per person who cruised and only 10% could afford it. Based on that, one person out of 392 people, who could afford it. Maybe that’s why so many people didn’t really care what happened during the shutdown.
  19. You actually seemed surprised that they would do something like that. There is absolutely nothing they could possibly do to squeeze more money out of their customer’s pockets, that would surprise me.
  20. It’s not All Included, it’s Always Included.
