  1. Hi all. Just a quick note to update you on my crazy life. I visited my son in Mobile and fell in love with the town. I told him I would move there is I could find a place on the river that I could kayak from that was not too expensive. Well he found a house on the dog river and it was great. So I put on offer in before I even saw the place.  I saw lots of pictures and Adam did a full inspection of the place. My offer was accepted before I got to see it in person. I went back again and it is a house that makes me happy. But it was in probate with lots of hoops to jump through.  When I came back to my house in Oregon it started snowing and most of the time it has been cold and snowy. I can't wait to get back. It finally closed and I now have a house in Mobile and one in Oregon. Today I rented a uhaul and will drive 2700 miles to get most of my stuff there. Adam is replacing and repairing a few things for me and will have it all ready when I get there.  But life is never easy. Son, grandson and I will be coming back to get the house ready and listed in Oregon and then one more trip with my Casita travel trailer and jeep to Mobile. Not only that but I've been to Washington three times and have planned an Alaska cruise with my sister. I feel like I am meeting my self coming and going.  So I think of all of you guys often and read when I can but will be on the road for the next week or so, driving the uhaul. Just an update as some of you have asked how I was.  Thanks for caring. I am overloaded but fine and looking forward to my new adventures.

  2. Thought I would check in and say Hi too all the dailyite family.  I have been following along regularly with everyone but between all my traveling around from Washington to Alabama and other weird travels, I seem to not have time to post after I have read three or four pages here. I am now waiting for more hoops to close so that I may make a major move. I will go into details when it happens as I don't want to jinks it. Prayers and love to all.

  3. My birthday has started cold. It got down to three degrees from about one am and is now up to 5 degrees F. There was ice on the inside of the windows. Hopefully this is the coldest day and temperatures will continue to spiral into spring.  Prayers for those who need them and cheers for all my wonderful Dailyite family. I do appreciate all the time each of you put in daily to tell us where the ships are, what to eat and drink and who is in need of prayer.

  4. Good morning everyone. Thanks for the great posts. I have a question maybe one of you can answer. I see we have BHBs in the shipyards. How long do they usually stay?  How do you find out what is getting done? I know that for two of our BHBs their job description has gotten changed with the sale of their sister ships. Are they being fitted for the longer cruises, like with fridges in all cabins or just general maintenance? Do you remember when they went into the shipyards? It feels like maybe twenty days ago. Is there a date when they will be out or just when they are done?

  5. Good morning all. Thanks Rich and all who share. I went out and yelled hoodie hoo at noon yesterday but I guess it didn’t listen. Snow is coming in with a dangerous cold front. Prayers are with those in our Dailyite family that need them and cheers for many others. I count my cheers as the snow is beautiful and I’m inside with my new heater that keeps it nice and toasty and there is plenty of room for safety if the river rises.

  6. This morning my phone was going crazy with alerts about the weather. 7 degree nights. Wind and snow starting in about an hour for the next two days. It wouldn’t be so bad except it might stop food and presents from getting delivered for my birthday the middle of this week. Haha. I really only expect something from my sister (her words were, don’t get excited, it’s just something small so you know I’m thinking of you) and the Schwan’s man.
Thanks Rich and all. Prayers and cheers for our Dailyite family.

PS I really need to remember to shout hoodie hoo at noon.

  7. Good morning all. Thanks Rich and all who regularly post information I really should know or at least love to read about. I agree a breakfast sandwich and coffee, made by someone else tastes a million times better. The chocolate chip ice cream is in the freezer outside to not tempt me as I try to get in shape for my Alaska cruise with my sister; and my new treadmill gets daily visits. It helps override the excuse that it’s too cold out. My river has taken on the color of coffee and cream due to the snow melt. We need the moisture so won’t let the color be too discouraging. Prayer and cheers for my Dailyite family.

  8. Good morning. Sun is almost up. House feels cold. Time to start coffee and turn heat up. I read yesterday and even had a question but got lost with golf talk. I felt like I was changing the subject if I posted a question so to not interrupt I waited until this morning.  @StLouisCruisers could you send me an email? I have some questions about GSA 2023. My email is alsous at msn dot com.  Thanks Linda

  9. I woke at 5:30 and started reading, then drifted off until my son woke me with reports on the house he is remodeling. He discovered that one section between the studs is almost charcoal due to a fire maybe 80 years ago. But no one knew how bad it was all these years until he started tearing out the wall. It was a true case of "if these walls could talk". After Graham's food porn I had to have breakfast before I posted.  Now its sunny and 35 degrees.  Hope everyone has good news today. Prayers and cheers for the Dailyite family.

  10. Good morning all. Thanks Rich for the informative start to my day. I enjoyed singles day yesterday as I took myself to lunch at the casino. It was a Valentine’s Day there and I won two sets of fancy jewelry, plus had lunch, talked to lots of people for about four hours and still came home with the same amount of money I left with. No flowers but the prettiest purple sunset. Prayers and cheers for all the dailyites.

  11. Thank you Rich, Roy and our whole Dailyite family. Happy Valentine’s Day. I plan to take myself out to lunch at the local casino. They make a killer Swiss burger. It’s not as cold today but a storm is coming through later this afternoon with a lot of snow. If predictions are right we will be on the fringe of the storm and should only get a couple of inches. I bought train tickets to my sisters for in a few weeks. It’s ten hours on the train each way but with winter conditions and the price of gas it’s more comfortable and half the price. I will be dog sitting her 15 yo dog while they are gone. They couldn’t bear to leave him with strangers in his aged condition so I volunteered. He is a real sweetheart and I miss my dog a lot. Prayers and cheers for all the family.

  12. Good morning. Thanks Rich, Roy and all who are Dailyites. I didn’t even know it was Super Bowl Sunday until I started reading this morning’s Daily. I’ve been watching the steam from the river reflect in the sunshine and blow up and then down the river as the breeze changes. So peaceful. Prayers and cheers.

  13. Good morning all. I have finished my second cup of coffee and the Daily. Perfect timing.  Thanks Rich for all the information you get in your first post. Thanks Roy for caring about us so much that you keep straight all of our sorrows and joys and list them each day. I may live alone but feel like I have lots of new friends here on the Daily. Love the picture of the sweetest girl. I hope the roads are good and you get to see Jose today. From what I understand, if you get carnations from a store, the new variety is bred to have less smell. I look forward to seeing the necklaces, they sound beautiful. Today I may even break out a jigsaw puzzle to start, since my sister will be flying away to visit her daughter and that means no long phone conversations for the next few days. I miss that.

Good morning everyone.  Thank you for the list Rich.

Just have a lot to get ready in order to be away six weeks,.

I have a question for those who are away for that period of time.  How do you handle the mail?

We can have it held at the PO for 30 days but this is longer.

Don’t have kids or family to help us out so we are in a quandary on this situation.  Any suggestions are welcome.

I was gone about 60 days this last time. Usually I take my request to hold my mail in and have a chat about my trip. They just put, hold until picked up. But I am at a small post office so don't know how it works in a big city.

    Ahh, how sweet ♥️

What a lovely & thoughtful thing to do!  I bet the steward’s daughter was thrilled to receive the teddy bear ♥️

Every day my room steward would show me the new video he got of his daughter. For a while the crew was not allowed off and he was sad because he wanted to get his daughter a dress. So when we were off the ship I found the cutest pink dress. The next day he showed me a video from his daughter. At two she spoke perfect English and said, “Thank you mama Linda. Pink is my favorite color”.  Such a cutie.

  16. Good morning. Thanks Rich and all who contribute to make this a great place to be. Sharon @Sharon in AZ, I forgot to tell you I changed my picture. It is a Captain Teddy Bear I bought on our cruise to keep me company and have someone to talk too, since I was solo so much. I left it on board for my room steward’s two year old daughter. She was a cutie and the bear didn’t pack well so it was a good match.

  17. Please Carol @mamaofamibe sure to let the police know just in case something else happens. This person as a caregiver has all kinds of personal information, access to your home and phones and could do real damage by creating a fake identity. If not to you then maybe his next client. And if something were to happen you would already have it reported for insurance.

Good morning everyone. Yes, Jacqui is correct. After spending the night at 58 degrees in the house, the furnace company discovered that the switch in the garage had been turned off. One of the aides must have inadvertently done it because it’s bright red and has a cover over it. I think he was looking for a garage closet light and thought that was it.$150 later we had heat. The week before the hot water heater was broken, then the remote control for the TV.

We have been notified that there was fraud on Sam’s Amex card the day of his birthday when we left an aide home alone, and one on a Costco visa of mine and another yesterday on my Chase bank card. We reported it all to the agency and while we know who did it, there’s no proof but I felt they should know.

I will celebrate chocolate any day and the quote is so true.

    Stay safe everyone,

    Carol

I have been thinking about this over the last few hours. I am sure I could not have the person back in my house. I would confront that person and it might not be pretty. I’m not sure they didn’t turn the red switch just to get even for reporting them. Like others have suggested, I would file a report with the police. Who knows but that they won’t try opening other cards in your name since they have access to so much information. Please be careful and know your situation is in my prayers.

  19. Well it took two cups of coffee, and a bagel to read all of this even if it is only three pages. Of course I had to put the garbage out by the road and make the bagel. Thanks Rich and all. I do love chocolate but try to avoid it as it is like potato chips, I can’t eat just one. I liked to sit in my hot tub and read. I would also light candles and pour a large glass of wine. It was my “me” time and no one was to bother me during that time. Another port I have not been to but hope to soon. Prayers and cheers for all my Dailyite family.
