  1. Do a little Google searching for the weather for a couple of your ports. We have been in the area twice in July...the temps can range from the 60s to near 100, even a bit cooler on the Norway coast, maybe lower 50s. So layering, from light hot weather clothes to cooler clothes is important.
  2. If you read around the boards, you will find many extended discussions on the topic, split between those who adamantly insist on flying in the day before, and those who insist it is safe to fly in the day of sailing, where that is possible. Rarely does one seem uncomfortable with flying in the day before. Hmmm... That being said, we almost always flew in the day before sailing when we were working, now as retirees, we typically fly in 2 days in advance, sometimes 3 or 4 when flying internationally.
  3. They are discussed here frequently. They have the solid metal railings on the balconies that are there for structural reasons. They are "entry level" balcony cabins, and certainly have a above average chance of being upgraded, due to there only being 4 of them.
  4. Without looking at the itinerary hard to say. But expect they ( 2 of them)will be on a sea in the first day or two, and a sea day late in the cruise, but not the last night.
  5. Can't fully answer that...as we haven't done much more than e mail and read various things on board. But from observing others on board, it seems to allow some of that type of activity, but it may be hampered by available bandwidth at any given time.
  6. Could this be something your travel agent has set up? Or possibly it being a "Grand" cruise has some extra benefits, like the initial in suite liquor set up? The sparkling wine usually comes with a Neptune Suite...but again, maybe on the Grand level cruise? It looks like maybe there is a mash up of the copy/pasting of the info, like this line: "Welcome Onboard Bottle Of Sparkling Complimentary Exc Tour One". But I still have not heard of a "Signature Internet Package". I think for your cruise its supposed to be "Premium".
  7. May is commonly referred to as the driest of the cruising months, but that doesn't mean it doesn't rain. As frequently mentioned here, the weather in Alaska is quite variable...sometimes changing several times in one day. A forecast 2 weeks out is very unreliable...in Alaska its crazy.
  8. Its not the "Signature Internet Package"...its either the Surf or Premium Internet Package: https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/onboard-packages/cruise-ship-wifi.html Its the Signature Beverage Package.
  9. I would think that it will be a problem. Generally, on boarding, go see the dining room personnel that will have desk set up somewhere...sometimes outside the MDR, sometimes on the Lido pool area, sometimes outside Piannacle...they can usually make anything happen in the long run.
  10. There are MANY threads here on Rome hotels. There is even a Sticky at the top if the page about hotels. Or are you saying Princess is offering you a choice of hotels? As far as the airport, there is a Hilton in the airport. Nice hotel, recommended here frequently.
  11. Oh the ship you can tip in any currency...the staff will accept it gratefully. I would favor the official currency of the cruise line, but any is OK. Ashore, I would tip in the local currency. However, not only is Europe pretty cashless, but also tipping is not a big thing. That topic is discussed here frequently. How much time are you spending on land? If it's just your port days, I would just use credit cards.
  12. You are more likely to find @Ferry Watcher on the West Coast Departures board, where Seattle is covered. I agree with @Northern Aurora...a very good description of the area.
  13. Seas can be rough anytime, anywhere, and are not predictable. That run is usually done at night, but is in the open ocean for awhile, so anything can happen.
  14. 24 days. Also 2 separate 22 day cruises. A couple 20 day cruises. Looking at a 22 or 24 day cruise for 2025.
  15. I understand the concepts. I wouldn't say a flight to Canada is an international flight in the same vein that a flight to Europe or Asia is. For example, a flight to Canada from SFO leaves from the domestic terminals, where flights to Asia or Europe leave from the international terminal. So 2 hours early, as we were for our SFO-YYZ flight last summer was plenty.
  16. Mexico is a place where we meet at least standard American tips, maybe more. Particularly if dealing with locals.
  17. I agree this is a cruise line/ship policy, even some have mentioned its a Captain policy. Not telling us the cruise ship or cruise line doesn't help us answer the question. But from our many years cruising, I would be worried if I were on a Carnival ship. They seem to be unpredictable on the topic. The other cruise lines wouldn't cause me any worries.
  18. No, there really very little in Kahalui relative to tourist interests. Very, very few stay in Kahalui. Essentially everyone who flies in (we have done it at least 20 times) picks up their rental car, which, on auto pilot goes straight to Costco, then they head off to Wailea or West Maui. A few go towards Hana. Less than 1 or 2 percent stay close to Kahalui.
  19. Agree. They should be available, one way or another, anywhere on the ship.
  20. Curious if you have any actual stats on this "happens too often".
  21. Well @Crow9, I assume the same issue must of happened on Sunday as well. Maybe a work slowdown by Immigration personnel. This sort of thing usually generates a strong response by the cruise lines. I bet there is, or will be, some yelling over phone lines at Immigration supervisors.
  22. OK, yesterday wouldn't affect today, unless the same problem arose today. Maybe Immigration, but would need to be a pretty significant delay. Hopefully @Ferry Watcher will tell us. I don't think Seattle has any tidal or similar issues that might have caused some delays.
  23. If they were having problems, Immigration would be the issue, not Customs. But they aren't sailing immediately to a foreign port, so I seriously doubt that is the problem. I would more suspect an airline or flight issue that may have delayed a number of pax.
