  1. Agree with Jazz we never rafted on our Scenic Douro 10 nighter. The only place we actually missed was Mateus it was closed for an emergency much to my mums annoyance at home as many many years ago it was one of the go to wines in the U.K.
  2. Well the 2CV is French has no radiator just a dirty great big fan to cool it down. Plus don’t knock an excellent beer maybe not ice cold but definitely not warm. Mind you it really does depend on the type of beer. I don’t think I’d like an iced Mackey.
  3. couldn’t find a picture of mine but this was my vehicle for many years. Rhubarb & Custard, 2CV deux chevaux it bounced and it leaned at an amazing angle that’s eventually why my DH decided it was positively dangerous so I got a 4 cab Toyota pickup another fantastic vehicle.
  4. Absolutely he worked for Ford all his working life then happily retired then had a mini stroke so after years of restoring and driving Scimitars he as he said followed his dream. They regularly drive to Denmark and Sweden for their holidays and it certainly is a head turner especially for young ladies much to his appreciation.
  5. It’s a bit of a technicality as a pilot usually has expertise in a particular stretch or area of water.
  6. Brother in law went all American this has proved a real head turner. I love the puddle lights.
  7. Layers layers layers. Look for silk long johns. Silk insulates beautifully is light and easy to wear and pack.
  8. The guys and girls doing that job have certainly got some nerve.
  9. Once moored at Rudesheim the car park was full of extra special cars it was a real concourse. So every male, plus a few female cruisers, crew and Captain were admiring these I must admit fantastic cars.
  10. Well yes basically any Jag, sit in a Bentley and you feel you have to do the royal wave. Oh any Jenson. Okay now I really cannot decide!
  11. Wrong yes we do (and we’re supposed to be European)but I must admit to taking them when I first realised they weren’t used in France. I think between us were slowly teaching them. Imagine a coach load of English schoolgirls basically first time across the channel in a Basel hotel, top floor - dormitory - to be greeted by, duvets, never seen them before, bidets - come on what are they for and well stand and squat toilets! You can imagine our introduction to Europe was not what we expected.
  12. Now that’s being extra picky. On one of our scootering excursions through Europe we teamed up with a couple of lads on a motorbike (I know that’s a complete no-no but at the time they were quite cute) they worked for a company an offshoot of RR which imported hot Rod paint from the US. I know it’s cutesy but my car could be the Heart to Heart Merc a real hairdressers car but hood down wow!
  13. If you’re interested in Burgundy the closest you will get is one including Chalon sur Soane. Scenic now visit they used to start from there. It’s a beautiful area, scootered through in my youth very interesting river cruising it.
  14. If it’s an area where a pilot is required. Viking as it were got away with the Budapest debacle although it appeared that the captain was fully qualified but I thought he got 5 years or did Vikings money get him off? Not being nasty here but it was absolutely horrific.
  15. For one the Shark works all over Europe BUT as it has a heating element you will be requested to use the supplied hair dryer, as far as I know.
  16. After perusing these boards make a list of your definite requirements but note you will not get them all from one carrier (if you do please let us know). Then decide. It’s all part of the fun, remember it’s your pocket that’s emptying so you want and need a really good end result. A little research goes a long way, remember I’m an archivist!
  17. Is it - breasted up but apparently not moored to anything but it actually looks as if they are moving! Is it ‘safety in numbers’? Or the power of two is better than the power of one. Interesting!
  18. Discretion on this one then definitely the better part of valour.
  19. There’s only one word for that! Fantastic.
  20. I see what he means as it’s I think more the difference in lengths of the Seine and the Rhine and Danube. On the Seine the water doesn’t have so far to drain away into the sea
