  1. They do say the old ones are the best! Well remembered.👍
  2. I must admit that is exactly what our butler told us, brollies and walking poles can be scrubbed and cleaned but I’m pretty sure no one would want to use a pre-used water bottle as it is mine sits quiet nicely in my Mini. Any more I might collect will be surgically cleaned and donated as have my collected back packs which have proved very useful for kids doing their D of E.o
  3. For us ladies a wrap is useful for the evening meal just round your shoulders until you acclimatise. Gentlemen you’ll have to practise your shivering 🥶
  4. Latest offer private door to door chauffeur transfers, it’s gone back to being a perk rather than for everyone. Oh and automatic OBCs have been discontinued so could come back as a perk. In all but top of the range cabins.
  5. Absolutely beautiful in the U.K. known as ‘heavy horses’ we have four breeds three native and one introduced so long ago it’s now regarded as native. Up until recently in Devizes the beer produced in the town was delivered by brewers dray pulled by two beautiful huge Shire horses.
  6. We went to the Delta Works with Scenic really something special, chocolate ohh yes please. Those two chefs look a lot of fun not names heard of in the U.K. but will definitely look them up. Maybe we can swap chefs two of yours for two of ours!
  7. Absolutely agree earlier in my many years I splashed out and bought a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt’s jeans named after an American designer, oh they were definitely jeans but I’d defy anyone to complain about them at dinner! If anyone complains about jeans what about ‘cargo pants’ I think as long as you look as if you’ve made some kind of effort and are clean and er-tidy it will do. Although if for whatever reason there is a dress code common politeness really should apply, shouldn’t it?
  8. I’m sure you’ll manage a good pair of gloves a few jumping jacks oh and how about a hand warmer plus lots of hot chocolate.
  9. Hunt around for silk long johns they are equally as warm as wool believe it or not, much lighter weight wise and allows limbs to flex more easily.
  10. Great! I’ve seen similar happen on a Scenic cruise before and I’m sure it would happen across the river cruising community. I hope you get some super pictures, enjoy.
  11. Thanks Jazz I wonder if it’s the same in the U.K.?
  12. My daughters hired one for me when we went to Disney California, such fun 🤩 (I know not for anyone who has to use one all the time but to help for a short period yes)
  13. So sad you’ve had to change your plans but sitting in the lounge being attended to by the hotel crew whilst everyone else is off ship is something special, I’ve been there, so apart from your injured do try to enjoy! I was once not very well on board and the staff were off the scale in their attentiveness.
  14. Help, but not usually being a user of TAs apart from our family USA California excursion a few years ago could anyone enlighten me about TA supplied OBC. Does the OBC come from the company they are booking you up with or from the TA. Am I wrong in presuming that part of the river cruise in this case is paid for to the TA. In other words how does it work? Please.
  15. Notamermaid that last place Heuden wow!
  16. The blue and white pottery has a long history and in this case is Dutch delft very widely collected I think a few European countries have their own versions we do in the U.K. It chips around the edges very easily so fully intact older pieces can be worth a small fortune. I’ve got a couple of pieces including a wall plaque but am loath to get it valued, I’d hate to be the custodian of something valuable as I’d be sure to drop it the next time I dusted it!
  17. All together now join in if you know the words.
  18. Could be because there are several dams on the river for cultivation and other reasons.
  19. Bluebells and Whitebells spring is here.
  20. Try an included tour and if you absolutely cannot continue with it before you leave it please inform the tour guide. He/She may not need or be concerned but if they are and have to answer to the ship it’s their head on the line. Also make sure you know your location as to where you are ship wise it’s really easy in a strange - to you - area to be not sure (note I did not say confused only to be used with us oldies) what direction the ships docking situation is. I’ve seen cruisers return to a vessel wondering what all the fuss is about! Not realising that the company is about to be fined by the local docking agency for not leaving their mooring on time. River cruising may look cool and smooth but behind it is actually quite a slick logistical operation, your working with the Dutch and the Germans here.
  21. If you note any experienced walkers, runners athletes will not wear jeans not because of weight or heaviness of cloth, it’s the seams they are so thick the chafe most uncomfortable.
  22. Yes you can leave the doors to the balcony folded back quite convenient actually and if for any reason you have a challenge moving them just call your butler, he/she might not arrive tout suite but someone will. Pontac I actually challenged Scenic about the change of presentation of bathroom soaps and shampoos and yes it’s towards using less plastic etc but then did my own research, see it pays being an archivist (research, research, research,) I quite like L’Occitane as a brand although in the higher price bracket wherever you are but ESPA in the U.K. is even more so, although apart from that I do agree with the less use of plastic whether it be 1 star or 5 star.
  23. Ohhhhhh I wish I was there. Yes anything that involves needles, thread, yarn, fabric of all types and styles is my Nivarna. I’ve quilted all my life but didn’t realise how strong it was in the USA until we went to a Rodeo where the two quilting halls were amazing, it was in San Antonio, where I also fell for Alan Jackson.
