Anyone else have trouble proclaiming themselves "Elite"?

Folks a lot of people like to feel important. This status thing that the cruise lines uses make them feel important and it's a good marketing tool that the cruise lines use. Talking to my neighbor about cruising over the years she always lets me know about her status and it's really important thing for them. I cruise all the lines and really don't care about there loyalty programs.

I find the term pretentious. I started a similar thread awhile back and most people seemed to disagree.

To each his own. But really that statements:

" are a little over the top, as, I believe are listing one's status in one's signature.

But your signature proclaims that you have spent nearly a year at sea and that you have achieved commodore status according to a website you follow. Is that not the same thing as proclaiming that you are not a mere deck hand but that you have achieved status... ?

Ask anyone who has been the top cruiser what types of responses they receive once they are presented. Most people don't care in the least and say nothing. However, quite a few congratulate the cruiser or cruisers and ask about their cruising experience. A common reaction is "I hope to do that some day". It's the cruising experience that's important to me, not titles, pins or public recognition. I understand that recognitions are done for Public Relations and Marketing reasons. They are a way for a company to present visible role models for what they hope will inspire others to do the same. To me, real recognitions cannot be bought, but are earned over time by hard work and dedication and service.

Max -- I think we agree that Even if most folks are neutral on the term "elite", it might be best for X to have a designation that Neither encourages advertising the status, or being embarrassed to acknowledge it.

Hi, Ho "Silver"!

I can certainly agree with you.:)

I don't think so, but to each his own. I like that particular signature because it lists cruises taken and ports visited without taking up much space. In addition you can click on it and see what cruises we have taken. This is what I like about signatures that show past cruises as I sometimes find a poster that I have cruised with previously.

They choose to add a title. But in my opinion Commodore is not a listing of status it is just a listing of naval rank. To me it means experience rather then status. With the Nautical cities app you can have your cruises listed without taking up space in your signature. I would love that they took out the title.

However, I would never introduce myself as Commodore!

So if I take "Elite +" off my signature but put a big long list of all my cruises, that would be ok?

You can do what ever floats your boat. My curiosity is why anyone feels the need to put any Loyalty level in their signature.:)

Christine - regardless of what we do, someone will find fault. I block the signature and list of cruises posted as it takes up a lot of space and really is a possible Elitest type list. OMG! I have x number of cruises, how do you have? LOL

Some people take pride in what they've been able to do. That's not against the law. Doesn't affect me one way or another. Therefore, no issue to me and not my concern.

Certainly cruisers differ in what benes are of importance, but I'm guessing that most would take X and the nightly cocktails etc., over Princess and the laundry and minibar. Of course, with Elite status on X you can jump over to RC as a Diamond, and then, adding the balcony discount - no contest.

250 internet minutes on Princess trumps 90 on X.:D

Also can use stock discount, military discount, on-board booking together, not just choose one.

Having said that, our next cruise is on X.

Well, I have removed my Captains Club avatar and number of cruises signature. I don't think we have ever discussed our status on a cruise with any other pax, also if we are in a suite, we never mention it. Possibly might have in the IOTS Concierge lounge or in the Captains Club happy hour, which sort off gives the show away!

Loved it on IOTS when some passengers were had their Gold suite passes on their lanyards round their neck for all to see!

I for one am looking forward to obtaining "Elite" status after our upcoming cruise next week - we would of had it sooner however with the credit conversion we had to work a little harder to get here.

Interesting comparison with the Elites of X to Princess, I was watching this interesting British show on ITV called "The Cruise Ship", it's about the crew on the Royal Princess (looks like a great ship) and talks about their experiences and adventures on the ship and with pax, very interesting to watch. In any case, they had a feature on one of the episodes where the Princess "Elite" cruisers were bogging down the laundry because there were so many of them on the ship and I guess that being Elite gets you (unlimited?) laundry for free; many of the non-elites were frustrated that their laundry was taking so long because of all the freebees they were handing out. I found it interesting that being Elite on Princess you get the free laundry, if in fact it's unlimited. I am not sure as to the comparison of levels with X to Princess however.

I believe that Elite is the top level on Princess. It appears closest to Elite+ on Celebrity. However, the benefits at the top level on Celebrity, harder to get there, offers far better benefits than the top level on Princess. Includes not only free laundry, but unlimited dry cleaning. 1620 internet minutes, Premium drink package, Suite amenities, Michael's Club access and more. Comparing perks might be interesting to some, but for me it's the total cruise experience in terms of what I look for that's the deciding factor.

You are correct. UNLIMITED laundry and dry cleaning. Some people even post how they send all their clothes to the laundry the day they unpack so the laundry can put all the clothes on hangers. I think this is a total abuse of the laundry/dry cleaning perk. Like anything else. Some people are considerate of others while others are only considerate to themselves. Same applies to the Internet when Princess had unlimited Internet. We would see people on the Internet all day playing games, etc. No consideration for others.

We've been asked how many times we have sailed & how many with Celebrity. I can't ever remember being asked my loyalty status. On roll calls, if asked for cabin #'s I'll just post a general answer, such as Aqua on deck 9. The only reason loyalty status is important to US, is for the additional benefits.

Sorry read that and don't agree that it is as good as the Celebrity perks, free cocktails most nights and every morning far exceed those little miniature bottles left in your stateroom. Plus the internet perk is a big $$$$ saver

I totally agree. Even though we are only Classic on Celebrity but Platinum on Princess, the free internet minutes for Platinum on Princess far exceeds the discount on Select on Celebrity. We are looking to possibly do a Med cruise on Celebrity in a couple years. However, not sure about the dress code on Celebrity, seems a little too formal on formal nights from what I have read. Sounds like men have to wear a jacket to enter MDR. My husband always does, however, if we do a Med cruise, he would probably not bother to pack one. I know on Princess, you do not have to dress formal in the specialty restaurants on formal night and from what I've read on CC, sounds like you do on Celebrity. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

We are sill interested in trying Celebrity again however, but if we do, will miss some of Princess perks including, believe it or not, the self service laundry.

There are some unlisted benefits as well. You are met at the check in line and escorted to the ship. You are assigned a dedicated Executive Concierge so that you need not go through regular Customer Service. You could withdraw cash from Casino without the 5% charge- on my last 2 cruises, but might have been discontinued. More people seem to be cruising more frequently to get to Zenith level.
