After Dinner clothes

Although some cruise lines might be more flexible on this subject than others, I'm going out on a limb here; & stating MY opinion. Cruise lines designate a certain dress code for all public areas of the ship after 6 pm. I would assume that their wish is for you to stay dressed accordingly until such time as you retire for the evening. I have, on occasion, seen some passengers go back & change into some extremely casual clothing. I wouldn't do it because I see it as being disrespectful of other passengers. But that's just me.

I second that notion! I share your opinion with you. The only thing I may go back and change is my shoes if my feet are hurting ...LOL.

The only time I remembering changing was after wearing a dress to dinner and then later attending a outside deck buffet/party where the dress just would not of worked. Otherwise no, too much work to change after dinner and usually just dressing for dinner would be too short of a time to wear something I generally like.

But for this question I dont think are answers will accurately represent what happens on a cruise. Thinking most people reading a fashion board enjoy dressing for evening and will stayed in dinner clothes, while many who dont frequent a fashion board will change.... It does not matter to me after dinner what others wear.

I changed on a few evenings when I wore cocktail dresses to dinner on non-formal nights. But I always put on something that was nice casual like black capris with a halter top, or a spaghetti strap baby doll top with capri leggings and flat sandals. The nights I wore a jumpsuit or maxi dress, I stayed dressed, as well as on formal nights, as most people did.

We always change on formal nights. We get dressed up for the pictures and dinner, but don't want to wear those clothes to enjoy the rest of the night. Plus after dinner those spanx get kinda tight so I can't wait to get into comfy clothes!

The dress code is for the entire evening - which means until you go to sleep or the sun rises, whichever comes first ;-)

I've seen passengers change into shorts or jeans after dinner (mainly on ships where passengers tend to not have a clue) and consider that disrespectful. If you don't want to follow the dress code, book a trip on a casual ship or a resort on land. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing casual clothes on formal night.....or shorts/jeans on *any* night.

It depends on a couple of things. First, it depends on the line we are on. Some are typically more formal than others (though technically, formal is formal). If we're on NCL, there's no reason to change since formal is optional. When we were on Princess, we usually enjoyed the movies out on deck, so yes, we changed clothes. And then there were the nights we wanted to hang out in the hottub before picking up DS from the kid's program, so yes, again we changed clothes.

But we aren't much for most of the shows and DH doesn't dance, so our after dinner activities may be different than many of yours. However, when we have gone to a show on a formal night we did stay in our formal clothing. So I think it really depends on what you're doing that evening after dinner......

Yep, we usually change from dinner clothes to more comfortable clothes. On a few nights on our last cruise, we went to the hot tubs, so formal or other dressy clothes would have been a little out of place.

This cruise, we don't plan to dress formally on any night, so we'll probably be more comfortable to begin with and remain in those clothes for the shows or casino. If we did dress up, it wouldn't bother me one whit to see someone dressed casually. If I don't like what they're wearing, I'll look at someone else!

Perfect response!

The entire question of a dress code has changed significantly over the past few years. When my wife and I were cruising, we dressed for the formal nights and remained that way. After she died a few years ago, I continued to dress up for awhile, although I'm retired and never dress up except for weddings and funerals. Then, when open dining came along, I stopped dressing formally altogether and began eating in the Lido more and more. I spent three weeks last summer on the Eurodam and never saw the inside of the MDR.

So the simple answer is no, I don't change after dinner. I begin casual and stay casual. I mean no disrespect to those who choose to dress formally but I'm on a cruise to relax and enjoy myself, which precludes wearing a suit and tie or, God forbid, a tuxedo!

Somehow, I don't think that HAL (or any other line) is trying to tell me to stay in my cabin if I'm not "properly" dressed. I know for a fact that the casino dealers are happy to see me, open collar and all. :)

I have never changed from dress clothes to casual clothes

after dinner. I have always worn my dress clothes to the

theater or wherever else I go after dinner.

Too much trouble to get all dressed up for just two hours.

And all my dress clothes have been comfortable so I am

not uncomfortable wearing them.
