Curacao on a Sunday

Some of the larger stores will be open until around 1:00 P. M. Then, they close. Even the local market has greatly reduced activity on a Sunday. It is still an interesting port to just wander around. And, the new casino and hotel with some small stores (also closed in the afternoon, if they ever opened) near the Megapier is interesting to visit.

Curacao seems to be a deeply religious country, thus, there is not much many things that are open. The churches are all open, be sure to stop by the Basilica. It is quite a sight to see, and the locals are very proud of it.

Shops at the Renaissance Mall -- right at their hotel -- at the Mega Pier.

Penha

Columbian Jewelers

Freeport Jewelers

Swatch

Del Sol

Swarovski Boutique

Tiffany & Co

Mont Blanc

Tommy Hillingers

XOXO Clothing

Little Switzerland

Diesel

Panache

Guess

Maxmana

Sun & Specks (they even repairs regular glasses)

So -- if some of you are worried about docking at the Mega Pier and can't handle the long walk through Rif Fort (which still has a lot of small shops) and pass the vendors, and over the pontoon bridge to get to town, you can walk right over to these shops by the hotel.

We found great shopping there.

What's worse than Sunday is Carnival! We were there on a Monday during Carnival. DW went to ship's doctor, he thought she might need a blood test that they couldn't do on the ship. Was planning on having her go to the hospital but because of Carnival the hospital lab was closed - would open it for "a considerable sum of money." She was not that bad off so we didn't bother to find out how considerable such a sum might be. I pity anyone who really needed the services of the lab that day! There were a few shops open and we did have a fine lunch on shore at Bistro Le Clochard in the Rif Fort near the Mega Pier.

We were just there two weeks ago on a Sunday and almost all the shops were open as well as the Distillery. We were on a local tour and stopped there.

Whiere were the shops ?

When I was there on a Sunday most of the stores on the Punda side were closed. Those that were open were only open a couple of hours.

I don't know what was open around the fort.

We always go to the government building- there is a tree outside it- close to the sidewalk, that has a naked woman carved into it. There must be a wood preservative on it- kind of shiny. We 1st noticed it in 1990, and my DH & I always check on it when we end up there- just a short walk from the ship. Yeah, we love culture.;)

I have just realized that we will be in Curacao on a Sunday. Will the shops and attractions etc. be open?

Shops will be open early and close early, it's s great day to sit outside on the terraces, Willemstad is always lively...

We've never docked at Mega Pier. Is it walk distance from floating bridge?

Is that where this 'mall' is located?

We've been to Curacao many times and alway walk across the bridge and enjoy walking/browsing/shopping that area. We've always docked in the downtown.

When you cross over the floating bridge there was a huge mall type of place and everything was open. Also many of the high end shops were open that are near the ship.

Thanks, but I am still confused.

When you cross the bridge you are on the Punda side. I never saw anything that looked like a mall.

We've always docked across from Punda here you have to take a walk across the floating bridge (or taxi around it into the city). Didn't know that was called the Mega Pier, but if you google 'docking in Curacao', the Mega Pier is the one HAL has docked at for the last several years. We have been there 3 times and have always had the walk across the bridge from what I now know is called the Mega Pier.

I am so confused now I don't know where is what.

I have never seen a mall in the area we dock. We were just there and I can't visualize where there is a mall on the side of the city where we dock. Is it near the floating bridge? Is it across the street from where the ship docks? Is it visible from the ship or is it back away from the main street along which we walk?

We've been to Curacao so many times and I have no clue.
