Could you kind peeps give me some feedback on wether it's ok to let my 15 year old daughter have a glass of wine with her evening meal?

In the uk this is legal in all licensed premises

It's not allowed on RCI ships. I didn't realize 15 year olds were allowed to drink in England. That's very young.

They are only allowed to drink with a meal in a licensed premises .. And I think the age might actually be 14 ... But it's 18 in a bar

Well, it's 21 on the ship. There are exceptions apparently when cruising the med but even then, it's 18 with parental permission, unless that's changed. I don't really know as my boys haven't cruised with us, but they are in their 20's anyway.

My 20 year old was not permitted to have wine with dinner.

It is a bit frustrating. Our experience is that they do monitor fairly carefully. The first night, the "kids" drinking wine all had to show ID at dinner. It was done in a very nice (and apologetic) manner.

Regardless of whether the rules are reasonable, part of your cruise contract does state that you could be put off the ship for giving alcohol of any kind to a minor, which on RCI is 21 for cruises sailing from US ports, as 21 is the legal drinking age in all states.

I could be wrong but I think I read on here that RCI changed their policy from 18 - 21 about 4 or 5 years ago. You were served "no questions asked" because the age was 18 then is my guess. No?

I would not risk being thrown off the ship for contributing to a minor. Their rules, their ship. :)

ryano you might very well be right. I was thinking that I couldn't order my own drinks, but maybe I could have and just didn't for some reason. I know I was drinking in Mexico at a port, but that was Mexico. It was a loong time ago, and my memory is fuzzy.

ryano is right, their ship their rules. It never hurts to ask. Well almost never. :D

For some reason, I just seem to recall reading on here that the drinking age use to be 18 on board RCI. I very well may be mistaken though

I think if you are old enough to say the word drink in Mexico, they will serve you! LOL

As others have stated.. not likely. As much as wine is a great compliment to a nice meal, she's probably going to have to go without.

Your 15 year old is not permitted to drink alcohol on any of Royal Caribbeans cruises.

From Royal Caribbeans website:

ALCOHOL POLICY

con_bulletgray_ico.gif Effective as of all sailings commencing on or after July 28, 2006, the minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on all Royal Caribbean International ships is 21.

con_bulletgray_ico.gif However, on cruises departing from European and South American countries, where the legal drinking age is typically lower than 21, a parent who is sailing with his or her son(s) and/or daughter(s) who is between the ages of 18 to 20, may sign a waiver allowing the 18 to 20 year old to consume alcoholic beverages. Please note: Waivers will be provided to parents upon check-in.

con_bulletgray_ico.gif The 18- to 20 year-old must agree to comply with Royal Caribbean's policies, including among other things, agreeing to not provide alcoholic beverages to any other person, regardless of age. Restrictions apply, and this policy is subject to change without notice.

The age at which you can legally drink wine in a restaurant in the UK is 16, so she would still be legally too young in the UK. I would not risk buying someone so young a glass of wine on a Royal Caribbean ship. I've read elsewhere on these boards, very recently, about 19 or 20 year olds having drinks taken away from them.

Actually that is false. Many states allow parents to give their underage children drinks. For example in Wisconsin, if your parents give you a drink there is no minimum drinking age.

While traveling with my GD who was sixteen at the time she ordered a virgin strawberry diquori at meal time, we were very surprised when the waiter brought her one with alcohol in it. We sent it back, but he did not ask for any ID because she had ordered a virgin one. I don't know who's mistake it was, but I was glad my GD didn't like alcohol.

By the way she is now 22 and I must say, her tastes have changed quite a bit:D
