LyndaKroooze Posted March 24, 2015 #102 Share Posted March 24, 2015 I like to buy an inexpensive piece of real jewelry. So I've bought a small silver stingray pendant on a silver chain. A silver bracelet with tanzanite stones, a silver ring with a large mystic topaz etc... None of the pieces were more than $100.00, most $25-50 and I get to wear them a lot. My stingray has become my everyday necklace, and when I'm stressed about something I rub his belly and think of the sandbar. Gives me some peace. On a side note- not trying to be a pain in the A**,but to the lady who takes home pieces of coral - please please don't! Seashells - no problem, rocks, sand ok, but coral is a living thing and sooooo important to the environment.
pauleydm Posted March 24, 2015 #103 Share Posted March 24, 2015 We collect art, sculptures and spices from local artisans. If we are not 100% the pieces are authentic, we do you purchase anything.

nator555 Posted March 24, 2015 #105 Share Posted March 24, 2015 A shell from most islands and definitely lots of professional photographs. I really like the pics they take. I spend more on pics than alcohol lol. We also try to find a Harley Davidson shirt at some point on our cruise.

griffy116 Posted March 24, 2015 #107 Share Posted March 24, 2015 My Grandson collects a ship's model from the ship and he buys a map of each island or country we visit. When he gets home, they are framed and are around the walls in his room. I collect a Christmas ornament. One that is locally made. Couldn't find an ornament locally made in Curacao, but found a little pair of the dutch shoes, hand-painted with a cord attached that was easily used as a Christmas ornament. Every year when it's cold outside and we put our tree up, we remember the WONDERFUL place we were at when we located each of the ornaments. Our tree is now almost exclusively decorated with these ornaments commemorating each trip.

dwightnwynonia Posted March 24, 2015 #109 Share Posted March 24, 2015 This is something that I am planning this time on our cruise. Figure I will have an empty bottle for it. We do this with a shot glass from the port and sand from the beach in it and seal it with wax Sent from my SPH-L710 using Forums mobile app
Flatbush Flyer Posted March 24, 2015 #110 Share Posted March 24, 2015 Sand from around the world! Just don't bring it into states like California or Hawaii without agricultural inspection. It's what you don't always see that devastates crops.

Rocks, shells, sand, soil, anything not inspected by an agricultural agent when it arrives in many home ports (most noticeably in California and Hawaii- I think Australia and New Zealand are equally vigilant) is not allowed. Please don't subject our agricultural industries to microbiotic or other "hitchhikers".
NMLady Posted March 25, 2015 #112 Share Posted March 25, 2015 We play lots of cards so collect a deck of cards from every port we visit. When we've used the cards as much as we can, we then put the decks, in their original box, into a "where we've been" box.

shealea Posted March 26, 2015 #121 Share Posted March 26, 2015 I've decided after reading this post a bit back that I now want to start collecting ornaments from the different ports we visit. I've been on 4 cruises to Alaska. But NO ornaments from there, as I just recently decided to collect them. ha! I will be cruising there again, so I will be sure to pick up ornaments from each port. From my other two cruises ...... darn, I will have no ornaments from there!
tweetypie_67 Posted March 26, 2015 #122 Share Posted March 26, 2015 We have collected slot tokens for my son since 1997. When he was 3 or 4 he was fascinated with a slot token that my dad had from Atlantic city, nj. My dad gave it to him and he called it his " big penny". A short time later my father died suddenly n my son was devastated. He would fall asleep every night clutching his big penny. When he was 13 I made a shadow box full of them for his birthday. He is 23 now and has them from ships and casinos all over the world. I was very sad when most of the ships converted computerized slots:(
klhage89 Posted March 27, 2015 #123 Share Posted March 27, 2015 We also collect an ornament from each island we visit and put the year on the bottom of it. Each Christmas when we decorate the tree, they bring back such great memories.
