Dreaming...New Build, what do you want?

So, with all this chatter about a possible new build from RCI, it got me thinking. What would I like to see in a new ship? Having done Freedom Class and Oasis, I see a lot of things I like, but would like to encounter some other things as well. So, without designing the whole ship (too busy for that today!), here are my simple wishes:

-Viking Crown Lounge improvement. This is mostly an Oasis issue. Since Oasis is so big, and the Viking Crown Lounge is next to the lofts, it doesn't have the same feel. It basically just looks forward on the pool deck. And the ship is so wide, you don't see over the edge as much. I loved the Viking Crown Lounge on Freedom and smaller class ships, as it provided more of a panorama over the ship and the water. You really felt like you were "above" the ship.

-More water views. This is definitely a challenge, because they want as many balconies as possible on a newer ship, so there are less public views of the water. But as much as I love Oasis, it was really start at times. If not on the pool deck or by a window in the MDR, there were very few views of the water. I want lots of big windows!

-Promenade deck. On the same theme as above, I miss the promenade deck. I recently cruised on the QM2, and the full wrap-around promenade deck was wonderful. I would love to see that make a comeback on RCI.

So, what's on your wish list?

I like the idea that Carnival has by making more of the Promenade deck. RCCL should see what else they could do with such a dated feature.

I like that idea. Maybe, instead of having an inward-facing Royal Promenade, they could have the shops lined up along the outward-facing promenade deck. I guess the only downside would be that the shops would be inaccessible when the seas are rough and they have to close the promenade.

Why not split the difference and have entrances to the shops be from *both* the inside and the outside? You'd get the indoor promenade for cold or inclement weather and you'd also have the outside option for nice weather.

I think I'd like to see less shops and more hands-on creative activities. More along the lines of the cupcake cupboard, but maybe watercolour painting.

I'd also like more family-sized staterooms (like the Royal Family Suite, with 2 bedrooms in one cabin) but without the extra price tag. Celebrity Equinox had some and I was impressed with those.

Also, the nursery that is being introduced on freedom-class as a result of it's popularity on the Oasis class. For me, that is a big deal about picking a ship, as it means I have the option of booking a couple of hours off for a trip to the spa or for formal night etc.

How bout dual entry? even that would be nice. I really think its time to see what else can be done with a deck that consist of a jogging track and shuffleboard. Add jacuzzi's that cantleever (did i spell that right?) over the edge as well like they do up top. Al fresco dining on the promenade deck?

Great for kids would be create a bear or whatever its called. Also, I actually did a cheap 80 dollar 1 hour glass blowing class. Made a paperweight. Must say I think it's really awesome for adults to get into. Even a paperwight being made was fun and very artistic. Celebrity only has a show, they should study safety measures to actually let us make ouer own glass piece.

Actually, you just sprang up a good idea. Move the Boardwalk to the promenade deck. It would make total sense. Make the promenade deck have that boardwalk floor, ya know wooden. Have games, food, shops, whatever else along the outside of the ship, some with dual entry. Make it wrap around. It would truly feel just like a boardwalk!!!! Oh man RCCL needs to hire me for brainstorming.

More "concierge lounge" type space for the suite guests and elite C&A members to congregate, so the rest of us don't have to put up with them quite as much.

(I'm only teasing.)

:)

Enlarge the cafe, size & menu. More dinning options that are not PAY than I have seen on Freedom and older ships.

Dream BIG!!! :D

Catamaran design - Two hulls (Vaka), each the length and height of two Oasis class (so four Oasis in all) with a bridging deck (Aka) roughly half a mile across and 10 decks tall. On top is STOL airfield, nine hole Par 3 golf course, multiple pools & waterpark, running track, etc... You can do a lot with 130 acres. Power agumented by wind, solar electricity cracking seawater (plus Biomass composting) for hydrogen to be stored and used in fuel cells to drive 12 azipods (three rear and three forward on each hull). Central platform interior is entertainment zone (theaters, restaurants, casinos, skating rinks, etc...). Edges of platform containing suites and possible time share apartments. Passenger capacity 35,000 but so large as to not be any more crowded than typical small city. Crew of 15,000. Obviously this is a tender only operation but tenders can be Radiance class size. Port stops would be week long so two types of "sailing" - port stay like a hotel and "at sea" between ports. Like "The World" by ResidenSea but WAY WAY bigger!

$30 Billion ought to do it.

I really enjoyed the open air dining outside of the WJ on the Radiance class ships and their solarium's with protection from the elements so that you can enjoy the pool in any weather situation. A nice mini royal promenade would be great. Also the glass elevators with more views outside the ship is desireable.

I like the suggestion of a sort of Radiance/Voyager hybrid. The outward focus of the heavily glass Radiance class combined with the interior promenade of the Voyager class.

Both classes have unobstructed exterior promenades that circle the ship so that's covered (as opposed to the partial promenade deck which is mostly obstructed by the lifeboats on Celebrity's Solstice class).

Take the interior promenade and make the shops, eateries, bars, etc glass on the inside and outside and at least some accessible from both sides. Use the heavily glass orientation of the public spaces on the Radiance ships (the Schooner and Colony Club and the glass elevator atrium for example) and you'd have the ideal arrangement for me :)

Lots of glass like the Radiance class ships would be great. A Royal Promenade like the Voyager class ships would also be nice. Maybe the Promenade could be on either sides of the Centrum. That way you could have the best of both worlds. A lazy river would also be nice to relax in. A glass enclosed solarium for bad weather. Something that could be new and still fit under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Key Bridge for sailings out of Baltimore.

This was my first thought, as well. It's apparent that RCI will not be building another behemoth in the immediate future ... two Oasis- and three Freedom-class ships should satisfy passengers who yearn for the bigger-is-better experience. Something between Radiance and Voyager, with the best features of each (within the physical limits of the ship) would be ideal.
