No credit for deceased military spouse.

I would then assume that you are a retired military dependent and have a Tan ID card. According to Princess the retired ID requirements are ". Retired Personnel defined as A) enlisted personnel or officers with a minimum of 20 years of service, B) medically retired, or C) 100% disabled. Proper identification for United States is a BLUE or TAN Uniformed Identification Card." Since you would have the TAN ID card I would assume that you qualify.

I would doubt the validity of the last assumption. I think you have to meet one of the A/B/C tests first before the ID comes into play. If all that was required was a tan military ID every military dependent would be eligible from the day they were issued the card and that's not the case.

The rules state that the person who served in the military must stay in the cabin. You also cannot combine with shareholder benefit.

From the original Princess release:

This offer is good for only one cabin occupied by military service person.

- Military offer is valid for eligible military personal in the U.S. and Canada only.

- This offer cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities.

- Offer is combinable with other Onboard Credit offers. Shareholder and military benefits cannot be combined.

My Grandson was killed in Afganistan, and his spouse goes on Military, maybe because she is a war widow, I don't know.

Sometimes, on certain cruiselines, spouses qualify for military pricing, but the military OBC is something different. When I called Princess for my aunt who will be traveling with us in May, I was told the OBC is not transferable to the spouse. (At least that was the opinion of the day at Princess.)

I really wish it did go to military widows too. Thank you all for your service.

Sorry about your grandson.

Not sure how she is getting the credit (cabin credit), with this program, but all the power to her if she is. Or is she just getting a military rate?

That was a direct cut and paste quote from the Princess press release when it was announced, I haven't found a formal announcement of a change. Okay, with Princess that may not mean anything, but still..

And for the person who said their grandson(?) got on a military rate, perhaps they mean RCI. RCI extends military rates (different than OBC) to dependents on a space avail basis.

Shareholder and military benefits CAN be combined..

The original release of the Military Credit did not allow you to get both credits, but shortly afterwards (2 or 3 weeks after) that came out, they changed the rules and allowed it. So, although that press release was accurate at the time, it wasn't long before they changed the rules. ;) Yes, they can be combined now.

We had no problem receiving both the Shareholder and Military credits on our Sapphire Princess cruise this past January. Just to make sure, I put the Shareholder in my name and the Military in DH's. The credits were on our ship accounts when we boarded.

From this page, "Proper identification in the form of a DD 214, plus a current photo id is required." Since the deceased wouldn't have a current photo ID, you wouldn't qualify.

It also says, "This offer is good for only the first or second berth occupied by the military person." Which I interpret to mean that the military person or former military person would have to be booked on the cruise and in the cabin.

Unless I'm missing something, this is pretty clear.

He isn't going on the cruise. The credit is for service people, not for their spouses.

How is it when someone wants to do something 'good' --- that its 'not good enough' for some people??

If Princess wants to give a GIFT ----:rolleyes:who is anyone to dictate to whom they should give it to or not!!

As a vetaran of 2 tours in VietNam I say thank you!

FYI : Celebrity and Cunard do not give any such credit--Their option!

For any program like this, there has to be a line drawn defining who is eligible and who is not. There will always be people who fall on the wrong side. I am not eligible for the Military OBC, but I think it is a great program.

Just Military rates, she has to have his death cert. and her photo Id.

Thanks. I did read the page but my mind never caught the subtle change from cannot to can...

thanks pam
Thanks go to your husband and all of the service men and women who have served our country. Without them, we wouldn't have the life and freedoms we enjoy today. I think it's wonderful that Princess is recognizing this.

There are some types of military retired that receive a tan dependant id card and not the traditional blue retired id card. While it is technically a dependant id card, it is issued to some military retirees - I think maybe for disabled vets that are medically discharged for a certain percentage of disability but not eligible for retirement benefits. I think they're given in order to receive health benefits. It's been over 20 years since I worked in military personnel and handled military id cards, so I apologize if I don't remember exactly. What I'm trying to explain is that just because you have a tan military id, it doesn't make you eligible for the Princess OBC. A dependant is not a veteran and I say this as a proud military retiree as well as a dependant of a military retiree.

Au contraire: Celebrity may not give OBC to military, but they have fabulous discounts for fares, although not on every cruise or category. The TA I am booked on for May has military discounts for some balcony cabins that is 45% off the regular rate! EM
