Rare CruisinCrow Posted April 13, 2011 #26 Share Posted April 13, 2011 Hi Hoyaheel, Have you tried NY and Co? You suggested them to me a couple of years ago and I bought two dresses from them that I really like. :) Here's one from their website - I like the pattern and halter-type top. It's on sale too! JD4Nati Posted April 13, 2011 #27 Share Posted April 13, 2011 As others have suggested, try Kohl's and JC Penney. I love the Bisou Bisou line at Penney's and they have a few maxi dresses with wider straps at reasonable prices.
juneagain Posted April 13, 2011 #28 Share Posted April 13, 2011 I was at arden b today and their maxi dresses were 50% off. They had some very nice ones with wider straps.
Hoyaheel Posted April 13, 2011 Author #29 Share Posted April 13, 2011 Some of these places just don't have the right size (overstock had only 6 dresses in XL, for instance) - I will check (I had checked NY&CO earlier in the season and didn't see anything - will have to check again) Bras remain a problem - halter tops require bra styles that don't always come in my size:o But I've really enjoyed the variety posted here. Now I just have to psyche myself up to go look for something:rolleyes: I love to shop but hate to shop in malls.....
cruise kitty Posted April 13, 2011 #30 Share Posted April 13, 2011 How about this one from the gap: I think you'd be fine with a racer back type bra with it, & the price is right: ** http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=13658&vid=1&pid=807607 **http://www.gap.com/Asset_Archive/GPWeb/Assets/Product/807/807607/category/gp807607-00viv01.jpg

Hoyaheel Posted April 14, 2011 Author #34 Share Posted April 14, 2011 Target - nothing. TJ MAxx - Nothing. Nordstrom Rack - no maxi dresses, BUT, I got a fantastic deal on a raspberry Exclusively Misook sheath dress (looks like this - but my price was cheaper!!) http://cgi.ebay.com/NWT-Misook-lovely-Rose-Pink-V-neck-sheath-dress-XL-/330551898555?pt=US_CSA_WC_Dresses&hash=item4cf66db1bb and it looks like this on a model - not me, but it looks pretty good on me too :D Will be great for work and especially work travel. Also got some Clarks ballet flats with a slight wedge and innersole support.... So I'll continue my shopping. Too bad I'm finding other things I like and not what I'm searching for :p

Hoyaheel Posted April 15, 2011 Author #39 Share Posted April 15, 2011 target online sells the clear bra straps,, you can buy a convertible bra, and just change the straps. i also like the girls looking nice and at attention! I've never found a convertible bra in my size that fits well. 40DDD. 40DD maybe, depending on the brand. Clear straps or not.... We're supposed to get thunderstorms on Saturday - no gardening ;) - so I'm starting to prep my husband that we might have to do a shopping trip. (we live in the boonies so shopping requires a minimum trip of 35 miles and for better stuff - 45-60 miles:rolleyes:) But I really like a couple of those Macy's dresses so I will look in the paper tomorrow to see if they have any coupons....That mall has a Macy's, JCP, a couple other stores to try. If I go to the outlet mall, I can check Chicos, Coldwater Creek (and I need to look at Talbots for some pants and QVC outlet for a bag ;-)

DivasDare Posted April 15, 2011 #42 Share Posted April 15, 2011 You really peaked my interest for the search and hunt and I came across this dress. I almost hit the button, but I am on "punishment" the cut is fab and I know it would look great on. http://cgi.ebay.com/Jones-New-York-Dress-NEW-Brown-Casual-BHFO-Sale-16-/290553854973?pt=US_CSA_WC_Dresses&hash=item43a65bfbfd Someone needs to get this before the itch comes over me. :p
ashygoldenbrownbabe Posted April 15, 2011 #43 Share Posted April 15, 2011 Help! I can't find any I like:mad: I ordered 2 from Target - one looked hideous on me, and the other order was cancelled (back ordered for a month then cancelled) I want something casual but ok for the dining room on casual night. 1) I have a large chest, so I *need* real straps so I can wear a real bra. This is the biggest problem - so many cute maxi dresses are spaghetti straps and that won't work for me (plus I hate wearing a tank top under spaghetti straps - that's a look that's too young & unpolished for me) 2) I'm size 16 so where the waist hits and how wide elastic is makes a BIG difference on me. Some empire waists make me look pregnant. The Target dress I returned made my hips look twice as large as they are because of the elastic waist. So, for less than $75 (preferably closer to $30, but hey, I'm willing to evaluate more expensive options:p) where can I find some cute dresses?? Thanks! Go to old navy.com check the regular sizes (they go up to xxl) and the plus size section. they have some good stuff. Also check Kohl's online. hang on checking the sizes i got. Ok i got xl ( i am 16 in jeans and 18/20 on top). they have some good ones that are very comfortable and work with and without bras (i waer a bra under). I got three and all have empire waists. Two are a bold paisley print, one in green and the other in purple. They have another color too. hope that helps.

DebJ14 Posted April 16, 2011 #45 Share Posted April 16, 2011 I saw some cute ones on QVC. They have a nice Liz Claiborne dress that would be great for a summer wedding in either a pink tone or blue tone paisley for $69.00.

Nelie Posted April 16, 2011 #50 Share Posted April 16, 2011 I feel your pain about the maxi dress I'm sorta in the same position. I'm a 12E (Australia) which i think according to a site i used makes me a 34 DDD or E. Im usually a 10 AU in bottoms and a 12 in tops due to bust size. So basically size small waist but a medium to large chest. I too get the whole pregnant thing happening and I hate wearing a tank top under dresses too. If I wanted to wear a tank top I would have worn one ya know. I also am not a fan of cleavage, my own or anyone elses. And i hate how people say well look for something else. NO I WANT TO LOOK LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. Sorry inner child breaking out. Dresses are B*tc# to buy even if i do change styles. Sometimes dresses are so short i have to check the price tag to check that is in fact a dress and not a long top. I'm a 27 year young:D female who doesn't like showing off her ass when she bends over in a dress. Apparently that makes me weird because it seems all dresses are made that way. Straps wider than 1 cm/ 0.3937 inches are out of fashion apparently unless of course its a halter neck but i cant wear them. (All that bust waist on my neck would snap my head off. I envy those who can) Forget anything that has button over the chest as they always seem to gape. I love watching tv shows and movies from the 60s and 70 where they wore those neck lines that were like straight across the colar bone cant really explain. However Woman not showing any flesh seems unheard of nowadays. I seem some pictures of my mother from her youth and im like wow mum do you still have that dress i'd love to wear that. Im even eyeing of clothes my grandma wore cause i like the lines of the dresses. I'm so thinking of learning to sew or seeing if i can con my starting to get near sighted and very busy mum and aunty to sew some clothes for me. And to think i hated wearing home made clothes to school as a kid:o. Oh well ill be back on here soon enough asking "Does this dress make my chest look big" Forget about my ass whats behind me is behind me:D
