Los_Pepes Posted May 10, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2011 Does anyone have any insight into these cabins? I pulled them up on the HAL site and they look kinda funky. Thanks!
CruiserBruce Posted May 10, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 10, 2011 Funky in what sense? If you look at Joanie's sticky at the top of the board entitled "Photos of Cabins/Staterooms" you can get a look at some of them. The cabins will be the same on all the Vista class ships. And SS and SY will be the same, except for location.
Los_Pepes Posted May 10, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted May 10, 2011 Hi Bruce, They seem to jet out from the side of the boat and are shaped angular. No biggie just curious. Also, does anyone know what type of room service options you have when your are in a Superior Suite? Thanks!

Also, does anyone know what type of room service options you have when your are in a Superior Suite? Thanks! As Bruse said, I have a sticky at the top of the main HAL Boards with Staterooms and their descriptions. I do not have any photos (that I could find) of the Noordam SZ or SY Category staterooms in the "Bend" of the ship. BUT I do have some of the Westerdam's (sister ship to Noordam) SZ 6052 and SY 6108 here: http://joanjett2000.topcities.com/HAL/Westerdam/Deck-6.html "SY" and "SZ" are Superior Verandah Suites: 2 lower beds convertible to 1 queen size bed, bathroom with dual sink vanity, full size whirlpool bath, shower and additional shower stall, large sitting area, private verandah, 1 sofa bed for 1 person, mini bar, refrigerator, floor to ceiling windows. One touch telephone concierge service. Approximately 372–384 sq. ft. with verandah. [ "SY 6108" is a Superior Verandah Suite: 2 lower beds convertible to 1 queen size bed, wheelchair accessible, roll-in shower only according to deck plans (Photos of SY 6108 however show a bath tub also), large sitting area, private verandah, 1 sofa bed for 1 person, mini bar, refrigerator, floor to ceiling windows. One touch telephone concierge service. Approximately 372–384 sq. ft. with verandah. [ †† This Category DOES NOT qualify for the Neptune Lounge Access. [ Superior Verandah Suites include the following amenities: [ Luxurious beds featuring Sealy® Premium Euro-Top mattresses and finely woven cotton linens. Deluxe waffle weave and terry cloth bathrobes for use during your voyage. 100% Egyptian cotton towels. Premium massage shower heads. 5X magnifying make up mirrors and salon quality hair dryers. Fragrant soaps, lotions, shampoo and other bath amenities from Elemis Aromapure. Complimentary fresh fruit on request. Elegant ice bucket and serving tray for in stateroom beverages. Flat panel TV and DVD player. Complimentary DVD library. Ice service, shoeshine service and nightly turndown service. Hope this helps Room Service is the same whether you have the lowest category stateroom or rgw Oenthouse. No difference. It is from a 24/7 menu:) Joanie

Thanks for taking the time to put that together. Would you happen to know what room service options you have for this category? Is it the same as a regular verandah? Thanks! CruiserBruce Posted May 10, 2011 #7 Share Posted May 10, 2011 The "jut out" is commonly referred to as a "Hump" cabin. The cabin appears slightly larger due to it's shape. The balcony can be a little windy, but wasn't a problem for us in a SB "Hump" cabin for 20 days last summer.

IRL_Joanie Posted May 11, 2011 #9 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Hi Joanie, Excellent stuff! Thanks for taking the time to put that together. Would you happen to know what room service options you have for this category? Is it the same as a regular verandah? Thanks! Room service options are from a menu in the room, and is the same for every category stateroom from Interior Staterooms to the Penthouse:) Just in the last 3 weeks someone has posted the Room Service menu, but I cannot find it at this time:( Glad to have been of help. But I could not maintain the site without all of our fellow Cruise Critic members:) Joanie

Los_Pepes Posted May 11, 2011 Author #15 Share Posted May 11, 2011 Thanks for all of your help everyone. I pulled the trigger on the SZ upsell for $99. The headlines are we paid $1099 pp for a VF for our cruise on the Noordam on this coming Saturday. With the upsell we got an SZ for $1198 pp. I am kinda happy! SabreSailor Posted May 11, 2011 #16 Share Posted May 11, 2011 One negative to the SZ is a lack of privacy on the verandah - everyone in the SY/SS cabins along the line toward the mid-ship elevators can look into your verandah....

Just curious were you offered an upsell for an actual SZ defined stateroom? One of the two or do you now have an SZ guarantee? Most SZ bookings, I believe, are sold as guarantees. If it's a guarantee your odds of actually getting one of the two are quite small. You will most likely get and SY or SS but it could go all the way to SA. As always though, could be exactly what you bought .. an SZ.
