I tweeted Captain Johnny and he replied at his starts his vacation on June 24th. So that would put Captain Gus as the Captain for my sailing.

 

I'm so disappointed to hear that! We're sailing on the Harmony July 1st and this will be the fourth time we've missed having Captain Johnny -- three times on the Mariner and now once on the Harmony. I suppose our paths are fated never to cross . . .

If we are looking at the last 3 new builds and their initial two Captains.

Anthem:

Capt 1 - Claus Andersen (previous ship: Navigator)

Capt 2 - Gus Andersson (previous ship: Quantum)

 

Ovation:

Capt 1 - Henrik Loy (previous ship: Independence)

Capt 2 - Flemming Nielsen (previous ship: Mariner)

 

Harmony:

Capt 1 - Gus Andersson (previous ship: Anthem)

Capt 2 - Johnny Faevelen (previous ship: Allure)

 

So you can see from the pattern of new builds that they have generally picked people already assigned to larger ships to take command of the new builds. There are a few Captains on small ships who I would say are possible (e.g. Captain Trym/Radiance), but it isn't likely that they will hand it to someone that very little people have heard of before. Plus, most of the Vision Class Captains have started as Captain on their respective ship, and it would be unusual to get a new ship so soon.

 

 

If you go one ship further the pattern does not work anymore. Quantum Capt. Ban, Vision before and Capt. Andersson, Enchantment before.

Don't worry, I'm on the same sailing. Captain Gus is a very good Captain, you will enjoy him.

If I remember correctly, Captain Ban only got the Quantum after Captain Dahlgren got promoted to head office. Dahlgren's previous ship was Oasis.

As for Captain Gus, he was an exception to the rule, however, he had been takeout Staff Captain on Allure, so had big ship experience and was a liked Captain, which could have helped.

Our favorite Captain is of course Johnny...but we were very pleased with Captain Gus on Harmony...he even spent some nice individual time at our Meet & Mingle.

Charles Teige on Quantum of the Seas could be a good candidate for Symphony.

I would agree that both of them would make good candidates for Symphony.

Many people like Capt Per and Capt Charles is a favourite of Mario, so he must be good!

Captain James was listed as starting 4/26. Did he really start midweek? He wasn't even on 8 weeks even if Captain Anders started this week.

I'm sure Captain James began his rotation on Liberty earlier in April than April 26th. Captain Anders only did an 8 week rotation prior to Captain James returning anyway.

 

 

That's just what the list had. I know they were off kilter a bit before due to the other captain leaving the rotation ( and RC I believe).

I read on another site : The Captain of the Symphony of the Seas will be Captain Rob Hempstead. Born in Rhode Island. Graduated from California Maritime Academy 1986. He joined Royal Caribbean International in 1999. He is currently Master of the Oasis of the Seas.

We have sailed with Captain Rob several times, on both Rhapsody and Oasis. If true, he is a good choice. I believe he is the only American captain with the company.

Captain James MacDonald is also American. He's from St. Petersburg, FL.
