OBC's from a TA...

We have a cruise booked next month. We prepaid our gratuities at time of booking because we have 'select' dining. Our TA is giving us some OBC's.

In the unlikely event that our TA provided OBC exceeds our actual on board account-gratuities excepted, will Celebrity then refund any part of the unused OBC to our credit card. I am assuming yes but want to make sure.

thanks

Really depends on the type of credit. In most cases it will not be refunded to your credit card. If I have unused credit at the end of a cruise ,(very rare) I simply go to the casino and for a 3% charge get cash.

Not necessarily depends on how it was paid, on saying that I have heard of a TA giving an OBC that exceeded anyone's on board account, unless of course you do not drink or buy soft drinks or do tours or specialty restaurants.

Normally the OBC from your TA is refundable. Check the description on your account. Can't remember the exact terminology, but some OBC is refundable and some is non refundable. A guess would be OBCR (for refundable) and OBCN (for non refundable). If you can't figure it out, check with guest relations. If you have refundable OBC left, it will be credited to your credit card. (I have had this happen. Small amount, but it happened.) If it's non-refundable credit, go to the casino and draw out the cash. Yes, you'll pay 3%, but that beats leaving it on the table!

Enjoy your cruise!

Buying things in the shops also goes on the onboard account, right? I could easily not exceed the OBC if I had prepaid gratuities, because we booked our tours ahead, don't intend to go to a specialty restaurant, and on our cruise last year we each bought 1 drink & 1 ice cream, but I did buy some souvenirs (though actually even with that I wouldn't exceed the $140 we have this time...). LOL, I'm tempted to prepay gratuities just so I can say 'cool, OBC, let's go spend it!' :-)

I am not quite sure why, on Celebrity, we have to pre pay gratuities when we opt for select dining. Is Celebrity concerned that we would ask for the daily gratuity to be reversed. We would not of course, but I like the idea of the TA's OBC being used to cover off the gratuities.

On a 2 week or longer cruise there might be laundry. The internet packages cost. Go to a specialty restaurant and there is a charge. I was amazed how fast $850 in OBC went. I did not prepay tips but 3 bottles of wine and one visit to a specialty restaurant sucked out a lot. A trip to the salon for a cut set me back. I did get money back at the end, but it was not as much as I had planned. If you have, you will spend it :).
