filbo132 Posted October 2, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2011 I was wondering has anyone gone solo more than once on the same ship....The reason I ask is that I was thinking of going with Epic again next year mainly because of the price, but im worried I might get bored if they have same shows at night and last thing I want is to be bored during my vacation time, so im curious to know what others who have done it can tell me by experience. outerspaceguy Posted October 2, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2011 I was wondering has anyone gone solo more than once on the same ship.... I was on Celebrity Summit twice solo... separated by several years, and cruising in different waters (Alaska and Southern Caribbean). It was fine. No problems. retiring soon Posted October 2, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 2, 2011 Hi all! I've been on Freedom of the Seas solo, a year apart once western then eastern. I was on Epic in May in the Med & am going next month on it to the Caribbean. Wasn't bored at all, people change, CDs change, ports change & with the Epic even some shows will change. Go for it!;) ~ Jo ~ :)
kitty9 Posted October 3, 2011 #5 Share Posted October 3, 2011 I've been on Crystal Symphony 17 times, Celebrity Infinity 3 times, Millennium 4 times, Summit 6 times, Solstice 2 times, Constellation 4 times, Seabourn Pride 5 times, and a lot of other ships two times or more. Nothing at all unusual about cruising the same ship more than a few times.
Dancer Bob Posted October 3, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 3, 2011 I was on the Costa Fortuna for 5 weeks in January 2009. With a different group of passengers every week, it was 5 different cruises, although I did get to try everything on the restaurant menu at least once. One week turned out to be uninteresting, but the rest were great. I've done B2B on other ships several times- each cruise entirely different because of the passenger mix. I concluded there's more difference between individual cruises than there are between cruise lines in the same market segment.
filbo132 Posted October 3, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted October 3, 2011 Thanks for the comments :) ...by the look of things, so far everyone seems to enjoy going solo more than once on a cruise.
Rare Lois R Posted October 3, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 3, 2011 Hi,:) I have also sailed many ships more than once. Check my signature and you will see all the ships and how many times I have sailed them. Summit 4 times, Century 6 times. Mercury, Galaxy and Zenith all multiple times (before they left the fleet). Eclipse, once but going on her a 2nd time next month. Solstice twice.... As for being bored on a cruise? If I have nothing to do? It is because I don't want to do anything;).....finding a lounger and napping is one of my favorite things to do:D......some people might think that sounds very boring but I consider it totally relaxing and I do it quite often! travelnap Posted October 3, 2011 #10 Share Posted October 3, 2011 filbo132, I have also done the same ship for multiple cruises but usually far enough apart that the entertainment was always different. No problems and I enjoyed the ship every time I was on it.
Rare Lois R Posted October 3, 2011 #11 Share Posted October 3, 2011 Lucky you, I wish I had that many days off from work so I can go on a cruise more often, im jealous. I will be working for the same company 21 years in December. Vacation days come with those years.
travelnap Posted October 4, 2011 #12 Share Posted October 4, 2011 I will be working for the same company 21 years in December. Vacation days come with those years. Lois R, I can really relate to that. With my old company I was up to 6 weeks of vacation a year, with the company I am with now its 2 weeks vacation and 5 personal days, so my travels got cut in half. Ontariotrekker Posted October 4, 2011 #13 Share Posted October 4, 2011 I've travelled with Voyages to Antiquity's only ship 2X now - a 16 day cruise and one for 24 days. There is no casino, no Vegas style show or no bingo nights but I'm travelling with her again next year for over 50 days in 2 separate cruises. As a solo traveller and a history buff, it's all about the ports and the lectures and they have the best deal. I'm never bored on that ship. BTW - as someone who is recently retired I can appreciate that vaca days are precious things indeed and often it's not about the pay but about the paid days! Personally I like variety in my ships. Part of going solo is the opportunity to explore all of the ship and what it has to offer. I will be taking my second solo cruise on the 22nd of this month and have connected with a group here on CC. Can't wait to meet some new friends and see what fun we can have. I also tell myself that when on a solo cruise, it is like being at a spa. Go where you want, do what you want, relax, take it all in. Have fun. AmoMondo Posted October 11, 2011 #15 Share Posted October 11, 2011 I've been 6 times on one ship (Opera) and twice on another Each cruisevwas very different because the itinerary, length of the cruse and timebof year were alll differentbwhich madevforbabdifferent onboard atmosphere & experience. There were some similarities in the entertainment butbshows and acts were different asvthey don't keepnthe same acts on the same ship. Many ofbthe crewvwerevthevsameband itbwas lovelybto be greeted by name and sometimes with my favourite cocktail ready and waiting!
haikou Posted October 11, 2011 #16 Share Posted October 11, 2011 due to my limited budget...Neeedless to say the fun ship was not fun for me.G my daughter enjoyed herself(she is only 16), but you could not pay me to get on one of those megaships again.Between really tacky sales pitches in the newspaper and ad nauseum over the pa, loud and onoxious passengers(over 500 kids on an Alaska cruise),mega lines to re embark the ship at each port, few meal choices, fruits and vegetabls hard to find, being charged for soft drinks via a stupid card instead of beig included on the ships I ma inused to,few lectures, and feeling like a number constantly, NO THANKS! I will cruise less often and stick with the number 1 cruise line in the world(Way to go Crystal vis a vis the Conde Nast Traveler polls etc) I do not smoke drink and do not like to be around loud mouth s late at night.Entertainment/shows? Oivay.
airlink diva Posted October 15, 2011 #17 Share Posted October 15, 2011 I've sailed on the Maasdam three times (2007,2008, & 2010). Each time was as a solo cruiser. Each sailing was different portwise and fellow cruisers. I also love the size of the ship and the cree. As for getting bored,no. While some things were the same, alot was different. I have no problem sailing on her again! Esp if the price is right and the ports are some I really want to visit.
Virtopia Posted October 15, 2011 #18 Share Posted October 15, 2011 I'm looking to go on the Majesty again in February, right ahead of my Navigator cruise. I really enjoyed the ship and my room was perfect. I'd be crossing my fingers that the entertainment director is the same as well ...
crusinpsychRN Posted October 25, 2011 #19 Share Posted October 25, 2011 Sometimes the shows are so good it's fun to see them again. Sometimes they're reworked a bit.
NASCARFAN14 Posted November 13, 2011 #20 Share Posted November 13, 2011 I sailed 2x on the Diamond Princess to Alaska, different itineraries. I was more interested in the glaciers rather than getting board with familiar things on board. I did feel at home though! lol!!
Eng23 Posted November 18, 2011 #21 Share Posted November 18, 2011 I've been solo twice on RCCL Freedom of the Seas and twice on RCCL Majesty of the Seas. I had fantastic cruises each time! :D
