Bisous3 Posted November 23, 2011 #1 Share Posted November 23, 2011 In my kindest, most polite tone I can muster.... Pretty pretty please, use the same rules of the road that you would in a car- slow traffic please stay to the right so the runners can pass you, and smokers please maybe consider the runners and walkers.... Breathing in a cloud of cigarette smoke when they're out on their morning jog cannot be too pleasant! Thanks everyone! And now back to our regularly scheduled programming..:-)
Rare Kmkub Posted November 23, 2011 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2011 I'm happy to report that I switched over to vaping (e-cigarettes) 5 days ago and now my husband (who wouldn't even hug me after a smoke,) now let's me do my "smoking" inside the house! So, I won't be one of the people bothering you, no matter where our paths cross. My husband has intentionally walked into the water vapor I exhale and didn't notice a thing... he can't even smell the "flavor" of my e-cig. Good luck! Beopthtuh Posted November 23, 2011 #4 Share Posted November 23, 2011 dont be surprised if a few folks have a negitive response to your post op as smoking areas are getting less on all cruise ships. they are very protective of the few areas they have left and you could always use the gym will be a reply. Bisous3 Posted November 23, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted November 23, 2011 I hadn't realized that there were fewer places to smoke, but can we say it's an even trade? Deck 7 for the casino? :-) Really and truly not trying to start trouble- just pointing something our that I don't think some people realized. I smoked for a long time ( when I'm 75 I plan to start again!) and I remember wanting to find a place to enjoy a cigarette without disturbing anyone. As big as these ships are they are still relatively close quarters when you think about it! Side note- there were letters in all of our Princess Patters about keeping an eye on our kids do as not to disturb the other guests. I think it's going well! I think it's going well! i no u weren,t doing anything to cause trouble and it would be great if everyone read it in the context you wrote it . when the prom deck is wide theres no reason at all for everyone to get along and mingle. dont smoke and think its great when joggers are passing and they smile and say hi to folks sitting on the prom deck ,as soon as we hear folks coming behind us who are jogging it so easy to make way for them, when the steamers or relaxers are on deck they push everyone outwards thats the good thing about cruisers they try to adapt for everyone and get on
rkmw Posted November 23, 2011 #7 Share Posted November 23, 2011 i have seen the walkers turn their noses up at the smokers on the prom deck, they can always walk up and down on the starboard side if they wish
Rare TracieABD Posted November 23, 2011 #8 Share Posted November 23, 2011 I am an ex-smoker, current walker/jogger. I believe there is a way for everyone to cooperate and share space. I think that if the joggers stay toward the rail and the smokers stay toward the boat, the deck is wide enough to accomidate everybody. I do remember when I was a smoker, I really wanted to be a jogger... (the reverse is not true), but I have a great deal of empathy for smokers and their plight to find their own corner of the world. Please, let's share space AND keep this thread positive!:)
Pam in CA Posted November 23, 2011 #9 Share Posted November 23, 2011 At this time, smoking is allowed on Promenade deck and runners and walkers can use the same space for exercise. They both have their rights and while it would be nice if everyone is aware of and considerate of others, it's not a perfect world. I'm not a runner and don't use Promenade deck other than to get from one place to another so I'm very likely to walk in the direction I'm going. That probably makes me inconsiderate but I'm not about to walk halfway around the ship to the other side just because I'm walking in the "wrong" direction. There is no wrong direction. I'm not a smoker and am very allergic to smoke but smokers have every right to be on deck. That's their choice as much as its a choice by someone else to run or walk. Consideration goes both ways. And now back to our regularly scheduled programming..:-)Having been on Grand Princess sailing out of Southampton I can tell you that the "rules of the road" are not universal. That cruise I had to get used to walking on the left, passing on the right ;), as 2/3 of the cruisers onboard were from the UK. Moral of story is just be considerate to other users, no matter what they might be doing. :)

Felt counter-intuitive in the beginning, but was easy to adapt to after a few miles (or kilometres---;)). :)

We get it ground into us from birth so it takes a couple of days when we are on a US ship to get into the habit of keeping to the right. Pam in CA Posted November 23, 2011 #14 Share Posted November 23, 2011 The only "traffic" issue I usually have is people who walk through a door, bottom of a stairway or escalator, gangway, airplane gangway, middle of a passageway, etc... and stop. Elevator door, dining room doorway, buffet doorway, outside door, etc., they stop dead. That drives me nuts. :)
paul929207 Posted November 23, 2011 #15 Share Posted November 23, 2011 I would think that smoking on the Promonade deck would increase when the new rules banning smoking in cabins and on balconies go into effect in January.

The problem developed because Princess eliminate the walking/jogging track on the Grand in order to install the Sanctuary. You should make Princess aware of the problem they have caused by making the smoking part of the Promenmade deck the only place for joggers to exercise. Dena Posted November 24, 2011 #18 Share Posted November 24, 2011 I know walking back and forth is not as nice as going in a circle, but at least the air would be breathable.

SwissDave Posted November 24, 2011 #20 Share Posted November 24, 2011 One side (port) of the promenade deck is an officially designated smoking area and this is made VERY clear. There should not be any complaints from people about smoking there. It is very difficult for joggers to do a 'lap' as the promenade is split over 2 levels and means climbing and descending stairs so many just run up and down the one side, or as far as they can along one side then double back, round the stern and down to the front that way. Runners can always use the other side (starboard) of the deck and just run up and down that if they do not want to go on the smoking side. There is always the gym of course... I was pretty upset when P changed their rules & regs after I booked but I'm thinking it's going to be okay now and I won't have to cancel.

Toddy709 Posted November 24, 2011 #23 Share Posted November 24, 2011 As far as I'm concerned, smokers can have the Promenade Deck AND the casino. If the smoke bothers me I can return to my cabin and balcony. Fair is fair;)! And congratulations to those that find vaping satisfying, may you find continued good health without the need for tobacco!
