When we embarked on the Zuiderdam on 12/5 we were told by a bartender that they had just completed their CDC inspection that day and were eagerly awaiting their score. Later we all learned that the Zuiderdam scored a 99! The Captain closed off the Crow's Nest at 10:30 PM one evening to crew only so they could celebrate their hard work.

Once we were onboard the Caribbean Princess just after she received her CDC inspection and rating, and it was 100. It was also the night of the Chef's Table. We could tell the guys in the galley were extra-happy that night and we got a special meal with extra appetizers and an all-around fabulous meal.

I read that article about the Monarch, too, and wonder if the age of the ship had something to do with the scores, particularly because many of the ships that have recently earned a perfect score have been newer or brand new ships. However, there is no excuse for lax record keeping, which was one of the problems along with the storing of chemicals and lack of appropriate signage near the hot tubs.

The Queen Mary 2 also failed a fairly recent inspection but were able to remediate everything and scored in the low 90s upon a reinspection.

I'm sure RCI will correct things, although I am saddened by the publicity given that I've sailed on her a few times.

Maasdam & Statendam also failed several times between 1993 & 1997!

That's pretty OLD history,,,,,,,

ALL these years later it really doesn't mean a great deal to me.

Tell me about a ship this year that fails and that is of interest to me.

Just another reason to sail HAL.

:) I agree and really like knowing we are sailing on clean ships, where potable water is safe, food is stored at proper temperatures and is served from clean galleys..... and all the rest.

Most of us take that very seriously, don't we?

Congrats to Captain & all Crew of the Zuiderzam for such a great score!

I think Congratulations should also go to the staff and crew of the Nieuw Amsterdam and the Westerdam for also doing so well. Hopefully the Monarch of the Seas can get their act together for the sake of the passengers who sail this ship.

Were all the public washrooms working, or still out of order??? That's apparently been an issue on the Z the past few months.

I didn't notice a problem with the men's restrooms but my wife complained that there were problems with some of the women's facilities, particularly the one on deck two between the casino and the showroom. A couple of times none of the toilets were working in that one.

On a positive note (and a little off topic) the Z had absolutely the best laundry service we've experienced on any HAL ship. We usually leave a bag of laundry/dry cleaning for the room steward each morning. Most of the time everything was back by turn-down that night. They've really got their act together in that department.
