Excited about Cruising Posted January 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2012 I wondering if anyone ever had a problem with not having their passports. A friend is panicing, someone told her you wouldn't not be able to get off the ship in some ports with a passport or you could end up in jail. We'll be in the caribbean. Thanks for you help! Not sure who would tell her that or how they could be so misinformed. US citizens cruising in the Caribbean don'teven need to have a passport. As long as they have a certified birth certificate and a government issued photo id, they are good to go and free to disembark in any port on their itinerary. Please reassure your friend that the information she received was totally wrong and she should relax and enjoy her cruise.:)
ray98 Posted January 23, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 23, 2012 There will be no problem, I have never had a passport for cruising. All they need is a photo ID when off the ship in port that matches their ship pass.
ready2cruzagain Posted January 23, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 23, 2012 Never had a problem using a birth certificate. Just make sure that for boarding the ship (closed loop cruise) it is required that the birth certificate is state issued (not hospital issued) with a raised seal. Also, parent(s) full name(s) should be on the birth certificate. When getting back on the ship at ports she will need sign and sail card and a photo id. Again, Not all BC's have raised seals and is not a requirement
elcuchio24 Posted January 23, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 23, 2012 As long as you aren't trying to fly OUT of another country back to the US then they'll be fine. Just BC/DL for embarkation/debarkation and S&S/Photo ID at ports.....
mdrlb07 Posted January 23, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 23, 2012 DH & I have used BCs on two cruises and have never had a problem getting off the ship at ports. We just needed our photo IDs along with our sail and sign cards.
