Mama Lou

Ruth C., I remember Grace on the Royal Viking Sea. From what I heard along the way, she had to leave the line because she was beginning to "slip." I loved seeing her being escorted into the dining room and entertainment lounge each evening by a staff member or officer.

Thank you for telling me that. I didn't know that part. How difficult it must have been for her to leave her ship. I know she had family, though, so I hope she was well-cared for.

I did meet up with a ship employee once, who had been on Royal Viking, and knew Grace, so I did learn then that she had gone to that eternal sail.

Saw Mama Lou on the Ryndam last week. She wanted everyone on Cruise Critic to know she is alive and well. I saw her in the Lido several times. She had her mechanical cat with her. She appeared very well. She gave me her card with a picture of her and Ryndie Roo.

Here is an "early" photo of MaMa Lou, you might enjoy -

Daring photo because if I remember my history right, back in 1913 the women wore LONG swimsuits like the ones in the photo below:eek:

And Ruth I saw the date. Thank you for pointing it out though.

The "daring" photo of Mama Lou was not taken in 1913. 1953?

The Tsar

Several years ago, I had a long talk with MaMa Lou, at which time she gave me her Personal (Business) Card. This is a scanned image of the photo that graced that card.

She was 'having some fun', I imagine. :)

She would have to be well over 100 if that photo was taken in 1913. She is a grown woman in that photo....... ;) obviously. :D

Simple arithmetic makes it impossible.

Having met Mama Lou -- I doubt if that is a picture of her.

She is short -- and the woman in the picture has long legs.

Maybe it was a picture of her mother?

I have seen her on several occasions, but only actually had an opportunity to sit and have a conversation with her on one occasion.

She gave me the card as a remembrance of our meeting. The front side of the card has this photo on the left side, with her name and address in Florida on the remainder. On the reverse side "Cruising With "MaMa" Lou."

Judging from the vehicle, I would estimate the photograph was taken in the late 30s or early 40s, when she was in her early teens. Also that apparently was the photographic craze in that era - pretty girl with vehicle. Although I can not be positive at this point (Senior Moment), I seen to recall that she acknowledge the photo as being her as we joked about it.
