How much extra would you pay for the larger cat 1A balcony on Solistice class ships?

I do not think it would be worth it. Having had both a regular Concierge cabin, and S1 Suite, I really found the time spent on the balcony took away time form other parts of the ship. I didn't spend all that money to sit outside my bedroom LOL.

Breakfast (or other meals) on the balcony are so so and generally colder than in the dining room.

No, I would not spend more for a bigger balcony....especially if the cruise is port intensive.

Funny you should ask. We just paid an add'l $80/pp to switch from a 2C (partial obstructed) balcony cabin to a 1A cabin on the angled part of the hump (9294). Major reason was we wanted a cabin with the bed near the bathroom. Both had the large balcony on the angled part of the hump. This is for a 10 day southern Caribbean.

What is the price difference? How long a cruise? Do you currently have an oversized balcony on the angled part of the hump?

Hi Stipmom,

JERSEYGIRL3 makes some good points more info here would be helpful.

Although, I do understand from your posting that you are actually on the hump itself with a straight rectangular balcony (realize that there are no 1Bs on "the angles" with the bigger balconies)

I just got off the Solstice 2 weeks ago, we were in # 1120, which is a Concierge Class Cabin, first one "off the hump" on the angle... facing aft.

We loved it... Our Balcony was easily 3x the size of the regular balconies. And as we were first "off the hump" we were able to see the widest possible angle... side, to the aft, and when at the rail... if we stuck our head out past the partition next door we could see forward as well (loved that, when we were coming into Fort Lauderdale on our very last morning... being able to see all around us).

Other benefits...

* You are behind "the hump" so there isn't a lot of wind from the forward motion.

* Being at the fartherst point to the side of the ship (except for the Bridge) ... you can directly below to the water.

* The Balconies are HUGE as noted... and a mix of sun and shade... more sun closer to the rail. The balconies don't feel tunnel-like... very pleasant to sit out there. And they are very very private, lol, you can see a lot of other people and their balconies when at the rail, but really there is no-one who can see you... ok the people on otherside could always stick their heads around the partitions... but that is it.

* Cabins are just steps from the Main Mid-Ship Elevators and Stairs so that makes getting around a breeze onboard.

As for using the Balcony... we certainly were not there 24/7... but it was nice early in the morning... wake up and see the next port of call (and a 180 degree view). And we also used it a lot late at night before going to bed... again being able to see fore and aft was a bonus. And we spent an afternoon out there too one time... just relaxing. It was nice to come back to such a HUGE Balcony and put our feet up (lol, mind you we were C-Class so we had the famous "much talked about" Celebrity Footstools)

Would I do it again (even if it meant I wasn't getting the perks of C-Class)... ABSOLUTELY !!

If we sail again on the S-Class Ships, then # 1120 would be my first choice in C-Class... or maybe we'll move up to Aqua and their "angled" balconies... lol, or if we win the lotto... we'll be looking for a Suite that has that part of the ship "cornered" (pun intended).

Actually, I think the 1As are a real bargain, truly Celebrity should make them all C-Class IMO... mind you I also love those perks (if you see a good deal on the C2s on the angle, I'd go for those). We were going to book a 1A originally, but found a real deal on the C2 (in our case, just $ 20 per person more for a 7 Day Sailing... with the C-level of Gratuities the whole upgrade cost us $ 47... which worked out to be cheaper than Celebrity's Bon Voyage Package... so the best $ 47 I spent on the cruise IMO).

Hope this is helpful,

Cheers!

We were in a 1A on the angle on a 12 day Med cruise in September and loved it so much that we booked the same cabin for our upcoming cruise in March. The balcony is huge with lots of sun and shade. Though we didn't spend a ton of time on the balcony during the cruise, it was wonderful to wake up early and stand out there watching as we sailed into port, sometimes before dawn or just at sunrise, in Greece and Italy. The cabin attendant was kind enough to bring us footstools to use upon request. (I guess the cruise wasn't sold out, so there were some footstools available.)

We had booked a Guaranteed Balcony for this cruise and had been assigned a cabin on deck six. We requested a cabin change within the same category to this particular cabin on deck 9 and the request was granted. How fortunate we were!!

It was a great value and was a good bit less than Concierge Class or Aqua Class when we booked it for our March cruise. I will feel like I am returning home when I step into that cabin in March for our next cruise. Of course, I always feel like I am returning home when I step onto a ship.

We don't have an oversized balcony currently. It would only be an extra $ 100 for the cruise. I want to do it but my husband and traveling cabins don't view it as necessary. My husband suggested he would rather lose the money in the casino.

If you have friends traveling with you all the more reason. You will have way more room to invite them over to your balcony. Also your view woo.t be obstructed. A bargain for only $100 more.

Hi Stipmom,

To me a $ 100 doesn't seem like like a lot... (especially in light of having had one of these cabins myself before... and as I say I LOVE THEM)... but then I can't speak to your finances.

If I read your post right, your travelling "companions" don't view moving to a higher category with an additional cost of $ 100 as a priority... (are they in the same cabin, or are they just near-by in another cabin?)

If the latter, maybe if there is availability, they could stick with the cabin "on the hump" straight-away, and you could get the one next to them (so first on the angle). So they in one category, and then you in a 1A.

Then you could have the partition opened between the balconies as well... they'd certainly see the difference... lol, guessing you would be dragging patio furniture back and forth... pretty quickly.

That is what went on next door to me on my Solstice Cruise, they had 3 balconies adjoining with the partitions open... they liked to gather for breakfast on the one next to us. They seemed to be having a great time !!

As for the casino... lol, nothing more on the Solstice "as for a sure bet" than YES your Hubby can pretty much kiss that $ 100 good-bye... from what I heard from others on the cruise... the slots were quite tight !!

Hope this is (somewhat) helpful,

Cheers!

It's very nice to have that extra balcony space when having a delicious

room service breakfast while you are pulling into port.......or having a pre dinner cocktail with friends. It's easily worth the difference in $$$$$$ to me.And trust me, I'm not rich

JERSEY (hi), I think $80 to go to the larger 1A from a partially obstructed is a good deal which I'd have taken in a heartbeat. And at $100/cabin as someone suggested, even better.

Hi back at ya! Did it for the wine crawlers/FOG cruise. Almost didn't get it. The 1A's at group rate were sold out.

That's a bargain. I'd grab it! Use your own money and then charge all the nonbelievers to spend time on your wonderful balcony! They'll become believers.

Oh thank you so much for this information! We're booked in 1120 on the Equinox next year. It's our first Celebrity cruise and this information is so helpful.

We love spending time on our balcony. First thing in the morning, predinner cocktails and then a before bed respite out there for a while just enjoying the sound of the water and the peacefulness of it all.

Your description has made me look forward to this cruise even more (if that's possible). Thanks again!!

Sloop John, I was thinking about doing the two cabins that way as there is a 1B available next to the 1A.

Hi StipMom,

One more Question... What Deck... and Port or Starboard (knowing that Smoking is always relegated to the Port Side)

Although I'm not sure there is any effects experienced mid-ship (we were Starboard... so it wasn't an issue for us)

Otherwise, I say GO FOR IT !!

As DREAM CRUISER 6143 said, they'll all be wishing they were you.

TO KAWS,

You are very welcome... glad to help.

Be sure and check out the topic I have on Storage for S-Class Ships ... lots of great info in it to help you out (NOTE not everything is identical between the Solstice and the Equinox, but you'll get the general idea... and others have posted photos as well to show the differences... I started the thread because I am such a visual person... so you can see and plan, makes it so much easier).

Cheers!

Hi Jo-Ann, you are not in 6240 anymore? Guess what, when I was

on Eclipse in November I had cabin 9294:) Great location, sort of

in a little alcove, quiet and near the elvators.

I am staying where I am on Equinox~my itineary is so very port

intensive (Med) and to upgrade for me would be about 300 bucks

since I sail solo....no thanks. I will be fine in 6240:)

Lois isn't that a funny coincidence! Do you by chance have any photos of 9294?
