How to carry your ship's card

Divi

Recommended Posts

I have seen people carry their ship's card on a lanyard but I'm not sure how they accomplish this.

Do you bring a hole puncher or will someone on the ship do it for you?

Sorry if this is a silly question but women, especially, don't always have pockets or don't want to carry a purse so I'm looking for an easier way.

Thanks.

Just take your card and lanyard to the Customer Service desk in the main area and they'll punch a hole for you.

You can get basic lanyards at office supply stores or do an ebay/amazon search to find fancier lanyards.

The lanyards make it easy not to lose the card even back in your cabin. I set my on the little shelf by the door as soon as I walk in so I know where it's at when I'm ready to leave. The lanyard keeps the card from "disappearing" in papers, etc.

I bring a tiny purse that I wear cross-body, saw people with funny packs. My husband likes a lanyard where you can put things in, with pockets, so he can put his glasses in while at the pool (eye glasses not drinking glasses :D )

Lanyards can be purchased in the gift shop aboard the ships and the shop or the Pursers Desk will be happy to punch a hole in your card for you. DW carries hers in a little pouch that she wears on her neck. I prefer to carry mine in a small leather card case in my pocket.

Let the ship punch your card. If you do it yourself, you might invalidate the card. As for us, I keep my card in my pocket. My wife keeps hers in her purse.

The lanyard is helpful in the casino where you put your card in a machine to earn points. I've left my card several times, but I don't leave it if it is on a lanyard a the lanyard is hooked on to me.

I brought a lanyard for dad with a plastic pouch. No hole punching needed.

I carry my card in a pocket in my camera case which I always have with me on a cruise. On my 1st cruise I figured out the pocket holds the card, a few bucks & a lipstick. What more do I need?

I bought my lanyard from the Cruise Critic store. It comed with a small plastic pouch, but I'll leave it at home and get my SS card punched. Also the bottom portion snaps apart so you don't have to take the lanyard off from your neck, saving the ladies' new hair-do from getting mussed; well for one day anyway.:D

I do not care for lanyards while on a cruise since I wear one at work everyday. Wearning one on vacation would be too much like work.

I either use my pockets or a small purse.

Before our cruise a two summers ago when we took our DD's for their first cruise, I found the cutest little "purses?" they are flat and about the length of a dollar bill ~just slightly longer. They have a zipper on top and then a second zipper for an out side pocket. They have a loop on the corner to go over your wrist. They worked out Perfect ! They held our seapass card and a few other little items , like my lip balm and a few tissues. My camera also fit in the main zipper part. For $5.00 they turned out to be a great investment and the girls said they really liked having them because they are so small and compact.

The funniest thing to watch on Princess is people with lanyards who are not smart enough to take them off their neck to put in the slot to leave the ship, but have to get down on their knees to put the card in the slot. I just carry the card in a small wallet with my credit and ATM card.

My wife and I went to the "First Time Cruisers" event on Freedom last year and they gave us lanyards that were designed for the cards. You can easily slide the card in and out of the lanyard and they seem to be as durable as anything. They were advertising for the cooking lessons but no matter they worked VERY well.

I've got a lanyard that I bought at Walmart and plastic sleeves that I bought at an office supply store. No need to hole punch my card and it's convenient for me. The other plastic sleeves came in handy for use with the paper luggage tags I printed from the Princess website.

I used to put my card on a lanyard but it got in the way, and in port it screams tourist! If I have a pocket or evening bag, that's where it goes. Other times I just tuck it in my bra. Never lost it yet!

We found wearing ours on lanyards in Australia and NZ was quite often conversation starter in port - especially the smaller towns. "Oh, are you from the ship? Are you enjoying your time here? Where are you from?". Etc. Ended up having some very nice talks with the "locals".

Thank you for all of the replies.

My husband has now set aside lanyards for each of us.

I like the idea of the plastic sleeve as I will not want to use the lanyard all the time.

DH even came up with a black lanyard he said was for formal nights. I'm sure you all recognize "if looks could kill" that he got with that

suggestion.

I would carry mine in a tote before resorting to a lanyard. I have to wear a lanyard badge at work and doing this is the last thing that I want to do on vacation. There's just something about the practice that turns me off.

Now that is just too funny! Maybe he could get a "Formal" one for you, also and you could glue on sparkly jewels. Wouldn't THAT be nice ;)

I think the lanyards look dorky (sorry). I carry a tiny purse with wrist strap. In addition to the ship's card I need lip gloss, a pen, reading glasses, and a place to keep the daily activity sheet. I always get many "what a great idea" comments.
