Elite Cocktail Party - are guest allowed?

Since X doesn't have the equivalent of the concierge lounge, do suite guests get into the Elite events?

Sometimes suite guests are given an .elite privilege for the duration of the cruise, which is up to the hotel director. It will depend in part on how many Elite cruisers are on board, how many suite guests aren't already Elite, etc. It isn't automatic that suite guests will receive the Elite perks, so be happy if it happens to you.

People in top Suites often receive special consideration, but it is not a listed benefit.

Coming up we will be on our first cruise as Elite status. Our friends will still be Classic. Can they attend the Elite Cocktail Party as our guests?

 

Hi Jim! We have been elite for our last three cruises but still haven't made it to the Elite Lounge. Like you, we were sailing with friends one time and with family the other two times who weren't Elite. Planning on trying it in February on our Southern Carib on Equinox. Have a great cruise.

My guess is that they were listed as VIPs and received some additional perks. VIP's include the highest point cruisers, high Suite guests, Corporate types and perhaps some special guests. Special treatment begins when they embark. They are given special tags and someone generally meets them, takes their carry ons and escorts them to Michael's Club for snacks and drinks. Senior Officers are there to meet them. They will be taken to their cabin usually before cabins are open to the general public. I've experienced this treatment and it can really spoil you.

 

Being a RCCL cruiser of 285 days I have talked to many diamond + cruisers and they have been saying RCCL has been giving automatic upgrades just prior to cruises to non diamond cruisers. Sometimes it was based on being a high roller in the casino, or a first time guest that wanted to give it to. Upgrades are suppose to be a D+ benefit. In fact we sign up for how we want to receive that benefit. It is suppose to go to the D+ with the most days sailing first, and so forth and so forth.

 

My point is Elite status has benefits, but they will also be modified when Celebrity feels it is in their best interest. That is business. H

One of the reasons for showing Elite cards even when the door person recognizes you is that some people lend their cards to friends in order to gain entry into the lounge.

This really surprises me. Not only is it wrong, but our experience has been that the maitre'd seems to know us by the second night, so I don't know how it would work. In any case, this to me is really an abuse of the system.

I'll preface this comment by saying that I think it is wrong to allow non-Elites into the Elite lounge even though cruising with Elites, but it does happen. On our last cruise, an Elite couple cruising with us did talk the CC Host/hostess into giving a non-Elite couple, also cruising with us, a seapass that said they were Elite. This same Elite couple gave their Aqua Class seapasses to another couple so they could eat in Blu one evening. So -- I wouldn't do it but if you are so inclined, speak to the CC Host/Hostess.

As for the Elite Lounge? I sailed Equinox in May and I know their

were non Elite Members invited in....there were only 91 Elites

on board and some of the folks I chatted with were in suites and

this was their first time sailing Celebrity.

It is not only tackey, but they should revoke the elite status for a period of time, even if it is only on the cruise it was misused and caught. H

The Elite Status has nothing to do with AQ and Blu. Anyone can

book an Aqua Class cabin. I was talking about the person giving

their seapass card to someone else so that someone else could

I've never had anyone asked for my seapass card when entering Blu. They only ask for your cabin number. Once it is entered into the system you are recorded as having dinner. That means you could not go to another dining venue that night except for the buffet. If someone knowingly takes something that they're not entitled to and as a result gets some gain, I'd call that "stealing". I hope that Celebrity reads this thread and examines their system.

They are usually quite strict about who eats in Blu.

We did the TA on the Solstice the end of April. According to Melissa, the Captain's Club hostess, there were over 600 Elites on the cruise. Can you imagine what it would be like if the Elites could also bring guests? There were people checking everyone's Sea Pass to make sure they were Elites. Some people were turned away because of this PLUS they turned people away who didn't abide by the smart casual dress code. Cudos for someone enforcing the dress code!! Dining room, are you paying attention??

Several things make it special. Being recognized with a thank you for your loyalty by the cruise line,nice social time with people that obviously love cruising,drinks of choice usually in a lovely atmosphere,dedicated waiters that have your drink waiting for you each evening,excellant breakfast with mimosas or bloody mary's if you so choose.Never asked anyone if they were a big wigg or riffraff as it doesn't matter so I can't comment on that.:rolleyes:

We suspect the big draw is that you can drink all you want at no cost. For passengers like DW and myself, we love the socialization and will generally have 2 cocktails (each) which saves us over $30 (a day). X also provides a decent selection of hors d'oevres (hot and cold) which does seem to enhance the experience.

 

Your comments about "big wigs" and not the "riffraff" have nothing to do with Elite cocktail parties except in your own mind. Anyone can become Elite by simply going on more X cruises.

:p:p The best part of it is wearing Big Wigs and drinking the secret drinks not offered to the lower classess on the ship. :rolleyes:

 

 

Seriously, as others have posted you wouldn't get excted about FREE DRINKS? and as a better than average percentage of Elites (Those with 10 cruises / cruise points on Celebrity) like to play on the Cruise Critic too, you get to meet people you have chatted with on the Interweb.

Sadly, everything I stated in my post is correct. It was not second hand information. I agree with those of you who think either conduct is "tacky". It was our first and last cruise with these folks.
